Roku 3 has video issues when only transcoding audio

Playing back videos on my Roku 3, video is streamed, audio is transcoded to AAC, there are video glitches during playback. Missing blocks or noise that happens for a second or two, then video is ok. But this will happen many times over a video's full length. A lot of the time the artifact is small in size, or sometimes larger, but it happens so often it makes watching unbearable.

P _ _ x is likely transcoding everything. We always play the stream directly if we can and transcode just the audio. I have seen this on some of my streams when my bandwidth is maxed when copying things across the network. There is breakup. There is occasional buffering.

You can force a transcode during playback. Use the OSD (press down when a video is playing) and find the graphic equalizer button (has 3 sliders on it). Press it and it will show a playback menu. On this menu is playback correction. Use this and see if it fixes it. If it doesn't use it again. Each time you use the playback correction button the app simulates an error and attempts to recover playback using the next play method. Eventually it should get where it will not show the playback correction button anymore on the playback menu. This means it is at the full transcode. There can be no further correction. At this point any errors should be corrected somewhat by ffmpeg before passing over to the Roku.

You can also use the Resolution/Quality button when on the playback menu. Pick the resolution you want when transcoding, and then the max bitrate you want used. If the bitrate is exceeded by the item the resolution you chose is how the item will be transcoded. This is a way to immediately force transcoding without playback correction. This can be undone immediately by raising the bitrate back up and it will direct play again. Using playback correction cannot be undone without exiting the video playing.

You can use playback correction and resolution/quality changes together. The playback correction play method will always be used though. But you can use the resolution/quality menu after this to further tailor your playback for that item. The choices in the resolution/quality menu match the web app. The resolution/quality once changed is remembered. Just like Netflix, Hulu, Youtube, etc..

Let us know if this helps and if you can provide transcode logs for those sessions it would be helpful. Seeing why it chose to do what it did helps alot. Thanks. :)

Try this app and let me know if it performs better. This is the beta product. This can include bugs, other issues, but for the most part it allows us to give you something now rather than wait for the Roku approval process. It also lets us give you things much faster. You can help us by pointing out issues, bugs, missing features you deem important. This helps us guide a path. Thanks again.

P__x is not transcoding the video. I've checked, and the banana pi that I'm using as a video server does not have the horsepower to transcode H264 in realtime, so I definitely notice when it is trying to do it.

I'll try your suggestions when I get the chance.

Thanks.

Also please provide transcode logs if any are created. Remux, directstream or transcode. Seeing that will usually tell me what is going on.

Yes. The channel icons differ so you can tell them apart and they can coexist on the homescreen at the same time.
