Hi, windows updates automatically and i’ve Just installed latest nvidea driver. Same just a black box when launching theatre.

Anything else I can do, are the other 2 posters still having issues or have you found a fix???

I'm using a workaround of running older version (3.03) directly from the download folder (no install) with a modification to config file: \config\system.xml

to set autoupdate to false:

 <EnableAutoUpdate>false</EnableAutoUpdate>

Otherwise you have to redo it every single time.

Waiting for permanent fix....

I'm still using the 3.0.3 version until there is a fix.  I may download 3.0.5 source and try to debug it myself.

As for my Windows 7 setup:

Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate

6.1.7601 Service Pack 1 Build 7601

Core i3-2120 CPU @ 3.30 GHz

8.00 GB Memory

.NET Framework 4.7.2

Intel HD Graphics Driver: 9.17.10.4229

See my post above.

If you use version 3.0.3 directly from the download folder (w/o install) it works.  Just modify the config file so that it doesn't attempt to auto-update.

Just to give some more instructions, as if you were me, it took a few tries to get this right.

After you download 3.0.3, from https://github.com/MediaBrowser/emby-theater-windows/releases/download/3.0.3/emby-theater-x64.zip

Extract to folder.

Then the first time you run Theater it will create the default folders in that location.

Close Theater

The config folder will now exist and you can edit the system.xml file and change AutoUpdate to False (Before you run Theater again or it will upgrade)

\config\system.xml

to set autoupdate to false:

 <EnableAutoUpdate>false</EnableAutoUpdate>

Thanks to the other posters for getting me running again.

I just started having this issue today, Windows 10 on my machine though. @@Luke, double clicking where the top bar should be doesn't do anything, I have to force close the app from the status bar.

Ok this actually makes it sound network related, as if the app is just not loading. Can you please locate the main.js file in the installation, and change lines 13 and 14 to this:

    var enableDevTools = true;
    var enableDevToolsOnStartup = true;

Then start the app. There will be a debug console on the right, drag it over to make it larger, then please take a screenshot. Thanks !

I opened the app with the dev console, but this time the app is working lol. Would you still like a screenshot? If so, would you like me to expand both panels of the console, or a certain area? I'm only having this issue on my machine sporadically, not as often as it sounds like other users are having the issue.

Ok thanks for the info. To others in this thread, if you could try the above step that I mentioned, that would be helpful. Thanks !

I am having the same issue.  Win 7.  current release ET and Emby Server.

ET was loading extremely slowly and i thought i should restart everything with a clean install but now ET shows black box.  Have followed request and have snipped the console.  Anything else you would like checked?5c163fc942d1c_Capture.png

When you manually change the version of Electron, make sure that you delete the content of %APPDATA%\Emby-Theater\data\electron

If you don't you will have problem with it, including black screen or no starting at all.

PS: I don't think that the "EnableAutoUpdate" does anything. People asked _many_ time if it was possible to disable ET auto update and the dev always say that it was not possible.

Imho, change the permissions on the folder. If that not enough, put it read only network drive (grrr! Sometime I think the devs just hate their users)

@@rliepins I'm just using version 3.0.3 on my Windows 7 PC for now.  Version 3.0.5 works fine on my Windows 10 PC.

@@stettler I've tried all possible combinations of running version 3.0.5 on my Windows 7 PC.  Including; running as administrator, changing permissions, using a previous version of Electron, and so on...  If I have some free time I might have to install VS2017 on my Windows 7 PC and debug it.
