EuG0000 3
I had some extreme slowness with my Emby, so I decided reinstall it. After re-install to the latest version (3.03) I'm getting a black box when I start it. I can resize the black box with my mouse by pulling the border, but unable to maximize/minimize it. Nothing else has changed on the system. I've had the same nVidia drivers, etc etc yesterday when it working albeit very slow. I think slowness was due to the library.db file which I deleted and rebuilt, but now I'm unable to bring up Emby theater I can load everything just fine through the web interface, so the server is working fine. Please advise! Edited November 20, 2018 by EuG0000
Luke 36999
Hi, can you try the newest version from the website? Make sure windows 7 aero has not been disabled and has not crashed. The app's transparency features depend on it. Thanks.

EuG0000 3
Update: So here's an interesting thing. I downloaded the 3.0.3 version and just extracted the files into a folder and ran straight from there w/o installing. It runs and shows up fine (see log below) One thing that I noticed is that it starts up in full screen mode, where the newly installed Emby Theater stars up in window mode. Now, when it's in full screen mode - I can't resize it to window mode (it's been like this for a quite some time). So I wonder if this could be the reason for the "black box" issue? Is there a way to force newly installed version to somehow start up in full screen mode? Here's the log from running 3.0.3 directly from a folder: 2018-11-20 09:28:29.532 Info Main: Application path: D:\Installations\Applications\Video and Graphics\EMBY Theater\OLD\3.03\Emby.Theater.exe 2018-11-20 09:28:29.543 Info Main: Emby Command line: D:\Installations\Applications\Video and Graphics\EMBY Theater\OLD\3.03\Emby.Theater.exe Operating system: Microsoft Windows NT 6.1.7601 Service Pack 1 64-Bit OS: True 64-Bit Process: False User Interactive: True Processor count: 8 Program data path: D:\Installations\Applications\Video and Graphics\EMBY Theater\OLD\3.03 Application directory: D:\Installations\Applications\Video and Graphics\EMBY Theater\OLD\3.03 2018-11-20 09:28:29.613 Info Main: D:\Installations\Applications\Video and Graphics\EMBY Theater\OLD\3.03\x64\electron\electron.exe "D:\Installations\Applications\Video and Graphics\EMBY Theater\OLD\3.03\electronapp" "D:\Installations\Applications\Video and Graphics\EMBY Theater\OLD\3.03\data\electron" "D:\Installations\Applications\Video and Graphics\EMBY Theater\OLD\3.03\cec\cec-client.x64.exe" "D:\Installations\Applications\Video and Graphics\EMBY Theater\OLD\3.03\x64\mpv\mpv.exe" 2018-11-20 09:28:32.669 Info App: Application version: 3.0.3.0 2018-11-20 09:28:32.702 Info App: Application configuration: {"EnableDebugLevelLogging":false,"EnableAutoUpdate":true,"LogFileRetentionDays":3,"RunAtStartup":false,"IsStartupWizardCompleted":false} 2018-11-20 09:28:32.704 Info App: Loading MediaBrowser.Model, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null 2018-11-20 09:28:32.704 Info App: Loading MediaBrowser.Common, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null 2018-11-20 09:28:32.704 Info App: Loading Emby.Theater, Version=3.0.3.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null 2018-11-20 09:28:32.747 Info Main: HDMI CEC driver installation was previously cancelled. 2018-11-20 09:28:32.827 Info App: Core startup complete 2018-11-20 09:28:35.826 Info TaskManager: StartupTrigger fired for task: Check for application updates 2018-11-20 09:28:35.826 Info TaskManager: Queueing task SystemUpdateTask 2018-11-20 09:28:35.830 Info TaskManager: Executing Check for application updates 2018-11-20 09:28:35.856 Info HttpClient: HttpClientManager GET: https://api.github.com/repos/MediaBrowser/Emby.Theater.Windows/releases 2018-11-20 09:28:36.277 Info App: Update Revision 3.0.5 available. Luke 36999
all you have to do is close the app and this will happen. in your case though, it might not be if it is not successfully loading in the first place.
berrmich 5
Hi. Posted here because I have the same problem. Windows 32 bit. My ET has been running very slowly the last few days. Takes forever to get from screen to screen. The webIU is very brisk. My android works fine. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling. All I get is a black window. I can't click on anything. It doesn't make noises like my clicking is doing anything. I've tried reboot the computer. Uninstalling and reinstalling multiple times. Still get a black box. I can maximize by using the win+up. But it is just a black screen then. Emby for windows media center works just fine and is fast. Thanks! -Mike Edited November 21, 2018 by berrmich
Guest asrequested
This is starting to sound like some Win 7 vs electron, shenanigans. I wonder if using electron 2.0.14, might help until the issue is rooted out? Edited November 21, 2018 by Doofus

berrmich 5
Unzip this to; AppData\Roaming\Emby-Theater\system\x64\electron I put in x86 since the file indicated 32bit as well. Did not work. ET will not open now. No errors, just doesn't do anything.
Guest asrequested
Try this, completely uninstall Theater, reinstall, immediately close it after reinstall. Then replace electron. This time with an earlier version, 2.0.11 https://github.com/electron/electron/releases/download/v2.0.11/chromedriver-v2.0.11-win32-x64.zip Edited November 22, 2018 by Doofus
scottpro 4
Just a heads up I'm having the same issue with the latest Emby Theater 3.0.5 on a Windows 7 64 bit PC. It works fine on my Windows 10 PC. Last weekend it work just fine and then tried to watch a movie this last Thursday (Thanksgiving) and Emby Theater was running really slow and non-responsive. Uninstalled Emby Theater and reinstalled it and now only shows a black window. Able to resize the window and that's it. Manually downloaded the previous version (3.0.3) and it works just fine. Was going to debug the problem but didn't have time. Could be an Electron upgrade issue. Let me know if you want any more info or help resolving this issue. The problem exists with both releases of ET 3.0.5 (github/releases and website installer). Scott Edited November 24, 2018 by scottpro
scottpro 4
Followup. I replaced the Emby Theater 3.0.5 "x64\electron" folder with the previous version (3.0.3) and it works. ET 3.0.5 works with 3.0.3's version of Electron. Edited November 24, 2018 by scottpro

Guest asrequested
Luke, I think this change happened in 2.0.12. I was using 2.0.11 with no problems, and then I tried 2.0.13, which gave me that problem with the black window. Looking at 2.0.12 changes, I think is when this first presented. https://github.com/electron/electron/releases/tag/v2.0.
scottpro 4
Update. The electron 2.0.8 version does work with 3.0.5, but there is a problem. It only works once. Subsequent executions of ET 3.0.5 with the older electron still render a black window. Copying a fresh version of ET 3.0.5 folder and replacing the electron folder with version 2.0.8 does successfully run again, but only once. This problem also happens when using the ET 3.0.3 version of electron with ET 3.0.5. Emby Theater version 3.0.3 continues to run with no problems. Steps: Unzip ET 3.0.5 Delete x64/electron/* Unzip electron-v2.0.8 into ET 3.0.5 x64/electron folder Run Emby-Theater.exe (3.0.5) Black window shows for about 1 or 2 seconds then ET login screen appears. Log into ET. Home screen shows. Close ET. Run Emby-Theater.exe (3.0.5) again Black window.......done Repeat steps and ET 3.0.5 will run again but only once. Also. Once ET 3.0.5 (with electron 2.0.8) is in a black window state deleting and copying x64/electron version 2.0.8 again does not fix the problem. It has to be a fresh unzip of ET 3.0.5 to work with electron 2.0.8 but only once. Also.also.Copied the ET 3.0.5 x64/electron folder into ET 3.0.3 x64/electron and it behaves just like the Thursday update. Very slow and unresponsive. The home screen will eventually display all it contents after about 2 minutes and navigation is very slow (virtually unusable). Also, when resizing the ET window the original window stays black and the home screen resizes only. Edited November 25, 2018 by scottpro

Guest asrequested
Why, which change do you think caused it? I was basing it on that 2.0.13 has very few (seemingly relevant) changes. And 2.0.12 has fixes that appeared more relevant to a window.
Darktree 2
Just upgraded to Emby 3.0.5 via autoupdate and now I have the very slow response problem. When starting Emby Theater now takes 30-60 seconds to start and clicking on a Episode take another 30 seconds to open info, when video playing controls no longer work and only thing I can do is close emby. Before upgrade everything was only taking couple of seconds if that. Away until Saturday/Sunday so will check back then to see if any updates on what I should do next. Thanks Edited November 25, 2018 by Darktree

Darktree 2
I decided to re-install as everything so slow in theater Now got the same problem as above, when emby starts it just a black box in the middle of the screen, and nothing happens. I deleted the C:\Users\xxx\AppData\Roaming\Emby-Theater folder and reinstalled... Any other folders I need to delete to give a cleaner install? No longer usable. System: Windows 7 x64.
