Random Emby Server Crashes on ReadyNAS 628X

Hello,

I am experiencing random crashes with my Emby server.  I am not sure what causes it in most circumstances, however I have been able to replicate the crash fairly consistently by listing my music and then sorting by artist and then scrolling through the sorted listings after clicking on a letter of my choice.  (e.g. I click on Artist, then click on "S" and then begin to scroll and a crash results.)

It has also been randomly crashing when browsing through movies.  (Generally fine once the movie starts to play.)  I don't think this is tied to any client side web browsers as the crashes seem to happen with different types of web browsers (e.g. firefox, chrome), but I would need to run a few more tests to convince myself of this.

I see nothing obvious in the logs to indicate why it may be crashing -- but I may not know which logs to look at or what to search for. (I think it crashes before it can write out the logs).  I do not have debugging turned on at this point.

Few important details:

  • Running on a ReadyNAS 628X (Intel D-1521 Quad Core 2.4GHz Xeon Server Processor; 8 GB RAM)
  • Firmware v 6.9.4 Hotfix 1
  • Plenty of diskspace free (6.59 TB free of 27.27 TB)
  • Ember Server Version 3.5.3.0

If y'all can give me any tips and help me work through this nuisance, I would be very grateful.

Cheers,

Jose

Opps.  I meant to attach that initially.  Apologies for the oversight.  I have attached them to the initial posting in the form of a zip file.  The file contains 3 sets of logs (total of 6 log files).  These were logs leading up to the crash and then one after the two crashes.

Let me know what else I can send.

Cheers,

Jose

Hi, you can resolve this by removing your music libraries from emby, running a complete library scan, and then adding them back.

Okay.  Let me see if that fixes it.  I would also like to try and understand the "other" crash that one of my users is experiencing.  But I need to find out more about what they are doing first.  I have deleted the music library and am re-adding it now.  It make take a while as Emby is currently streaming a few movies and there is about 1 TB of music to scan through.  I will let you know what happens!  Thank you for the suggestion.

Quick update:  I can't tell what Emby is doing now.  There is no "library" status showing how much of the music library it has scanned and when I go to the home screen I see no media or my libraries.  Just a black screen with the color changing circle.  I hope this will resolve it self with time . . .

:(

Unfortunately rebuilding the library did not work.  Same issue.  Select the Music Library, select Artists, click on a letter and begin to scroll and the server shut down / crashes.

I have attached the logs up through the most recent reboot.

Would it help if I enable debug logging and repeat the steps to recreate this crash condition?

It would appear that you did not remove all libraries containing music and then allow a complete library scan to run.

Hmmm.  How can you tell?  Something in the logs? (I don't want to keep wasting your time to verify everything deleted).  I deleted the music using the following steps:  Server --> Library --> Click the three little dots --> Remove.   Refresh the screen.  Verify the music library was removed.  Then Add Media library and the rest is history.

So this seemed to fix the problem!  Thank you for the suggestion.  I still need to find out what is causing the other crash condition.  If it tends to happen when browsing the "Movie Library" would you recommend a similar procedure?  Remove the Movie Library, sync, re-create the move library and then resync?

No, the music crash is actually due to a defect in the .net core runtime that we're unable to catch and handle. It happens when trying to download images from audiodb, so the procedure you did was intended to purge the database of all audiodb urls. We are waiting on fix to the netcore runtime and then we'll be able to enable audiodb again.

Regarding movies, we'll have to look at that separately. Can you attach the server log from when it happened? thanks.

So the "music listing bug" came back.  I repeated the exact steps I did a few hours ago (albeit for a different browser) and when I went to list the music it crashed.  (I have attached the logs.)  I can repeat the steps to fix the issue (delete library, sync, create library, sync), but is there a way to temporarily stop the audiodb updates?  Or can it be caused by a different issue?

That means you still have audiodb urls hanging around in your database. Unfortunately you might be looking at a fresh install as the only way to climb out of this.
