Can't Make Entries on Samung Blu-Ray Player UBD-K8500

I'm having trouble connecting to my Emby Media Server via the Emby app on a Samsung Blu-Ray Player (UBD-K8500), and it's the silliest of things!

I can't enter anything in any of the fields when trying to connect to my server on the local network.  I'm just trying to enter the IP Address, Username, & Password.  (See attached pic).  The input cursor is there blinking in the field, the number pad is up next to it, but I can't enter anything.  If it's supposed to work like everything thing else/app on the player, once the field you want to type into is selected, moving the arrow keys around should move you around the number pad and pressing Okay selects what you want, I believe.  I can do everything else except enter values into the fields.  Crazy.

Can anybody help me with this?

Thanks,

James

Hold down the info-123 button on the remote, then an on-screen number keypad should pop up which you can use. Sorry, it is a bit clunky

Thanks SamES!  The only thing is, the number pad is already up (please see the picture that I attached).  Do you mean I hold down info-123 button in order to use it after its there?

Thanks again for the quick reply!

If you hold that button down (for about 5 seconds) you get another number pad up that you can navigate with the arrow keys.  Using that keypad activates the other one, so for example pressing 5 several times will cycle through j,k,l,5

Okay, great!  Thanks!!  Now on to the next challenge.   :)   I finally got my Server IP Address entered and was able to advance to the next screen where I selected my user.  Interestingly, the field for the user password seems to behave differently than the previous fields.  It seems I can only enter numbers, no letters or symbols; at least I haven't figure that out yet.  It doesn't have a bar that comes up at the top of the screen with suggestions you can select/enter like the previous fields.  This is complicated by the fact that the password is dots, so you don't really know what you end up.  Is there another trick to the password field?

Thanks again!

Good question!  Yes, the different number pad I get up on the password field has only a single digit under each number, so I assume pressing '3' would give a lower case 'c'.  By holding down the |<< or >>| buttons it will switch pages from a,b,c.... to j,k,l.... etc.  I don't know what you do if you have a number in there as well or Uppercase letters?

Actually getting any keyboard entry working in this was a problem, although it was a long time since I looked at it.

I would try what he has suggested. I would also suggest using our Emby Connect sign in feature, which was built for the very reason of not having to go through all this with a tv remote.

Hi Luke,  I guess I could do that.  I've been avoiding it just because I want to keep my Emby Media Server as secure as possible, and that adds another way to connect to it, right?

Thanks for chiming in here!

FrostByte

Luckily my 2014 Evolution Kit came with a pointer remote which allows me to switch to numbers, upper case, etc on that screen with my older TV.  I normally just use a PIN like Luke mentioned though.

Have you tried Samsung's Smart View app?  It lets you control your TV with your phone and works for me, though I've never tried it on a BD player

A usb keyboard works too if you only have to do it once

The virtual keypad is definitely nicer on my newer 2018.

Thanks for the suggestion FrostByte.  Unfortuntely the Smart View app is only for TVs and I have a Player.  I tried it anyway, but of course the app couldn't find my Player.     I contacted Samsung and currently there isn't any way for a Galaxy phone to remote control my Player either.

Thanks,

James
