some movies won't play in WMC but work fine elsewhere

and what really sucks is that i paid long ago for the emby premier too as i thought it was the superior choice out there for media organizing/browsing. If I could get WMC to play ball it still would be, but thus far there's no fix for the rewind/fast forward (several others have posted about this0 and I imagine others are having the same issue with playback on some MKVs that I am too.

So this does not happen with mp4 or any other format?

The competition doesn't have wmc level customization.

are you saying there is a way to customize emby theater? b/c the options i see in the menus seem fairly limited. i just want the browsing to be like it was with WMC chocolate theme poster view. I can see less than half as many posters in theater poster view vs what WMC did on the screen at a time. is there a way to add the hover feature from WMC where it says the rotten tomato score/date/runtime/ time movie will end if started now on theater?

this is really be biggest gripe besides not having a custom background  at menu selection which is something i can live with (I am building out a ghostbusters themed theater room and it was nice to have the background at menu selection be ghostbusters themed prior to selecting tvs/movies/games/ concerts/ etc.

the issue of no playback only is with maybe 15-20 movies that i've found thus far, mostly recent marvel movies for some reason. the fast forward/rewind feature isn't one that I have used often so I'm not sure how long that has been going on or if it is with all my collection or just certain mkvs. my entire collection is mkv so i haven't tried other formats.

Do they all have something in common, video codec for example?

the codec graphics i think are reporting incorrectly on my browsing screen in emby WMC so i'm not sure what codec they are actually using.

I'll have to check over some things to get exact version numbers but I can tell you that I am on Emby server beta, and EMC beta.  I use shark's advanced codec pack on my WMC machines but I can't name the version of that and LAV off hand.  I haven't applied any updates in the past month or so but I'll check the date of my last updates.

Alright, I just took a peek.  It looks like the last update I installed was on 11/20.  I have Shark's Advanced codecs version 10.7.0 installed which is packaged with LAV version 73.1.  My EMC version number is 3.0.314.0 and Emby server version is shown under programs and features as 3.5.

And does 11/20 line up with when you first started seeing this problem?

The Emby versions are not relevant.  Whatever is going on here is at the WMC, OS or Codec level.

The other thread about skip ahead and jump back was started in October so that weakens the case for a Windows update breaking things. I'll have to run a full backup and bring a machine up to date to test I guess.

That would be very helpful, thanks. It could also have been a codec pack update.

We haven't had a new server release since August, so if it started in October that would weaken the case for it being an Emby update.

All movies play fine if I view them in the web browser in chrome or if I use another player like VLC, but several will not work in WMC. In the attached log you will see that I played 2 other movies fine, but when I tried to play deadpool 2 it just stayed at 0 seconds and a black screen (this also happens with avengers infinity war and several other movies). I have updated my LAV to version 0.73 (the newest) and it still wont work in WMC. please help

Have you setup the built-in WMC movie library?  If you don't want to this up then navigate to a folder with one of the movies that won't play, right click the file, and select open with, then choose Windows Media Center.  Try this with a couple of different files that won't play, and if you continue to have playback, or any other problems let me know.  We can most likely test this whole thing without Emby being involved.

That would be very helpful, thanks. It could also have been a codec pack update. I checked what optional updates are available as well. 5 of them are RDP updates, and the other two are monthly roll-up previews that were published on 11/27. Does anyone having problems automatically apply optional updates

I applied every new IMPORTANT update to windows and updated sharks codec pack to the newest version. I can still seek. I don't usually apply optional updates so I can't rule one of those out. Edited by jachin99

Version 3.6.0.76 beta for the server, and Beta for EMC as well.  I just thought of this but IS CINEMA MODE ENABLED??  When I had cinema mode enabled with internet trailers, EMC would not play a file because the paths were too long.  You could also just try a library scan to see what happens.
