Apple TV - browsing collection using A-Z scroll

OK...

I really don't know how better to describe this other than this...

I am in my movie collection and I start to scroll down... (I have ~5000 movies, just to mention that)... I would like to have the #,A-Z scroll bar appear on the far right so I can skip to the starting letter of what I am looking for.

With the current method, it would take me longer than the movie runtime to get to Zorro from .45.

Sometimes I do see a side scroll of . . . . . . (listed vertically) but it doesn't allow me to select and jump anywhere. Is my ATV busted?

And to be fair, I haven't tested or used ATV much . (ATV v1.2.05 I believe with server 3.4.1)

Thanks in advance.

J

Your Apple TV is not broken!

Unfortunately Emby cannot currently support that feature from Apple but it’s something we can look at implementing in the future.

just so you know Plex has an A-Z menu at right side of screen, so it is defiantly possible to code.

My apologies for resurrecting this thread but this is something I'd like to see implemented on the Apple TV too! I was trying to figure out why I didn't have a vertical alphabet on the right side of the screen when scrolling through my movies and came here to search and found this thread.

With that, wasn't there suppose to be some speed up to scrolling? My thumb scrolls faster than the Emby Apple TV app can keep up and populating the movies takes some time. Currently testing out the .80 beta.

I've added this feature to our internal tracking.

Do you have a super rough estimate on how long it takes something to go from your internal tracking list to being added to the beta app to the final app?

Unfortunately we do not. There's a lot of factors that go into when we deliver particular feature. This one in particular will likely require server changes as well which may lengthen the timeline.

Any update on this? Been playing around with Emby on other devices and I think the Apple TV might be the only one that doesn't have a jump bar.

Don't expect a lot of changes to the Apple TV app for reasons I understand....

Also waiting for years already for subtitle customization, SO I CAN FINALLY USE THE EMBY APPLE TV APP, which isn't the case now.

Doing a lot of Emby Apple TV app beta testing just like @@vdatanet, but for what..... @@Luke @@ebr @@corey

Care to expand on those reasons why we might we not see changes on the Apple TV app?

Mainly the lack of human resources. Not enough resources are allocated for the development of the application.

Well that stinks. In the grand scheme of things, I wonder how many Apple TV Emby users are out there? Looking on the Google Play store, Emby has 100,000+ installs. Maybe there are like 87 Emby tvOS installs and that's why the tvOS version gets minimal support?

We actually just added another developer for Apple TV. He's working on one large thing rather than many small things so it will probably be a few weeks at least before you get anything out of it but eventually it should allow us to pick up the pace a little bit.

This is good news.

Just got new ATV 4K and trying to "accommodate" Emby on the device. What I read in the opening topic is "I am in my movie collection and I start to scroll down" - that's not what I see on mine... I have only horizontal scrolling with posters and details below and no option to switch to a grid view. That's extremely inconvenient even with few dozens of movies.

Is that way to change view to a grid within collection on Apple TV? Same way as "Latest", "Suggested" are presented by default and same as Collection displayed in Web and on iOS devices?

Could be I'm overlooking something in this specific interface...

@@Luke, I'm in Movies - > Collections -> <Any collection>. i.e. inside of collection.

Suggestions and All movies are grids as expected

Ok so you're looking at a single collection. Do you have collections containing a large number of movies?

Yes. e.g. Disney Animations - have somewhat 100 titles... I could think of making a library out of it, but that's not ideal solution as on other clients I have no troubles with browsing a collection

Just checking in on this.  It's pretty rough to scroll a 1200+ movie collection on Apple TV right now.  An A-Z fast-scroll bar would help immensely.

Can't agree more!  I've got 2000+ with about 800 more to save to my media server.  The current app is a pain to scroll through.  Also, would like to see a selected collection in a vertical display rather than horizontal with a description.  Much simpler and easier to access a collection that way.   If I want particulars for a movie within a collection, I can just select it.  This is the way it is on the web app and most other apps I believe.  The web app is nearly perfect for large collections.  Actually, Emby is nearly perfect!!  Great development job!!
