2017 Shield, AndroidTV and Google Play Music

HI,

Had an interesting one last night. Have just signed up for Google Play Music and saw it on my Shield so had a play with it... Then opened the Emby app and selected a TV show. When I started the show using the double tap on the volume slider (which gives an immediate start instead of going to the detail screen first), I got both the TV show and Google play music playing at the same time. This is repeatable every time. Google play music app does not have a Stop button, just a pause and as far as I can see there is no way to stop the app running. Even after two Shield restarts, Music and TV play simultaneously. The only way I found to circumvent this it to use the centre select button on the shield remote and start the TV show from the detail screen. Once I did this all was back to normal using the volume slider.

Anyone else experienced this?

thanks

Interesting.  I didn't even know about that shortcut.  Strange that it would work like this though.  Is it repeatable w/ another video app like Youtube?

To be honest, I haven't tried anything else as yet. Will give it a go and see what happens :)

OK, so YouTube doesn't react to the double tap on the volume slider. Starting a YouTube video using the center button on the shield remote does not restart the Google Play Music track that was previously playing - same as Emby. I did try this - play a track in GPM, pause it then play a YouTube video, then open Emby and play a TV show using the double tap, and get the same problem - both TV show and GPM track playing simultaneously...

It would appear then, that it may be an Emby issue related to the actions of the double tap on volume slider. Not sure if the double tap is an Emby thing or something that is part of the Shield software. One would think that if it's part of the Shield software then it would be active in other apps like YouTube. I don't currently have a Netflix subscription so i can't test that.

@@ebr, @@Luke, any thoughts?

I think the problem is that we don't register ourselves as the primary media app until our playback activity starts and this is too late.

I will try adjusting that so that we do it whenever we are running.

Thanks.

@ ebr, tested and it's now working properly. Did have a little scare in that it asked me to go Premiere to get more features.  I already have it, so restarted the Shield and all is good.

Thanks
