Flextuary

An Emby Theater Skin

5937162f9e846_1homemovies.jpg

This is a community-developed Emby Theater skin that draws inspiration on my love for the new default Kodi v17 skin, Estuary.

Whilst some parts borrow heavily on the original Kodi skin, others are just loosely based around the general feel.

The GitHub repository for this skin is at: https://github.com/flexage/emby-web-flextuary

Current Status
This skin is currently still in development, and far from feature complete.
That being said, all major areas have been given a once over, and the skin should be perfectly usable even at this early stage.

Known Issues
  • For now, at least, this skin is unsupported by the UWP (Windows Store / Xbox One) version of Emby Theater. The standard desktop version and the hosted client at http://tv.emby.media/ are reported as working fine.
  • If you have a large number of libraries, that disappear off the bottom of the navigation on the left side of the home screen, you will be able to navigate to them with your keyboard or remote, but the navigation will not scroll down to show them as selected.
Feature Requests

You can request and cast your vote for features over on our FeatHub: http://feathub.com/flexage/emby-web-flextuary

Features with more votes are more likely to get worked on sooner, so if there's something you'd like to see added, make sure you get it up there!

Installation
  • To install, first launch Emby Theater.
  • Then navigate to the settings, and go to the "Installed Plugins" option.
  • Select "Install Plugin" and then choose "Install from URL".
  • For the Plugin URL, enter https://flexage.github.io/emby-web-flextuary/package.json
  • Go to Settings -> Display and make sure Flextuary is selected as your skin
  • Return back to the home screen.
  • After a few seconds, if the skin hasn't changed, you may need to restart Emby Theater.
Kodi UI Sound Pack

For those authentic Kodi UI sounds to complement this skin, I've put together a separate Emby Theater plugin.

Just install a plugin from an url, as per the skin instillation instructions above, and use this url: https://github.com/flexage/emby.web.plugins.soundeffects.kodi

Other Sound Packs

If you're feeling adventurous, you could also check out one of these other sound packs I put together.

Android TV Sound Pack: https://flexage.github.io/emby.web.plugins.soundeffects.androidtvsounds/package.json
Plink Sound Pack: https://flexage.github.io/emby.web.plugins.soundeffects.plink/package.json

I really like the look and feel. Love to see the guide updated with a option to have colors based on the type of program (News, Movies, Sports, etc..) Also, sometimes the left menu does not show what selection is active. FYI, when changing the skin back to default, the screen does not update until I exit and startup again.. (This maybe a quirk in the default skin)

Are you planning to add different skin colors/themes?

Really nice. Wish I could do something like that.

Just wondering, is there a way to get to the individual items in a collection, haven't spotted anything yet.

Thanks! I've also noticed that when changing back to the default theme it doesn't seem to come back properly until ET is restarted - I think it's something to do with the way skin switching is handled in the ET core.

Colors for program type would be cool, I could look at adding them in the future.

Skin colors/themes are on my wishlist too, I'd love to get round to adding them - I personally use the pink theme that's available in Estuary on Kodi so would love to see some more variety - I just wanted to get a first release out with the "must-have"s before moving on to the "nice-to-have"s

Thanks, appreciated! Could you elaborate more about "individual items in a collection". What type of collection are we talking about? I may have missed re-skinning an area if my emby test server doesn't have that category of media  ;)

About Collections, its just collections.....

59372ad8a9752_EmbyFlextuary.jpg

...think I set Collections up using the Emby Plug-in, not manually. Hasn't got a Collections icon on the left BTW.

If you go to a Collection...

...there's no way to get to the items in the Collection, if they're off the bottom of the screen maybe ? can't tell.

Also get this...

...when I click the Collections button on the left. Click the top Collections button and they're fine.

Thanks for the info and the screen grabs, they really helped.

I personally haven't used collections before, hence why they've been overlooked.

I'll set some up on my test Emby and see what I can get done ;)

Thanks very much. Whenever's convenient obviously.

Is it OK to add more stuff as it gets spotted ?

No problem

Sure, feel free to report anything you think is relevant.

I'll probably tackle things in the path of least resistance for now (Easy stuff first). ;)

Excellent, I was just looking at this skin in an update to Kodi yesterday and was thinking how great it would be to get something like it in Emby

Red text for TV episodes doesn't really work in my humble opinion...

I agree! It wasn't intended to be red.

I've fixed it now, the skin should auto update the next time Emby Theater is started.

Thanks for the heads up  ;)

Good looking skin, the side menu is just what the doctor ordered for my small bedroom TV.

The detail screens seem to be lacking the back arrow so I have to use the escape button on my keyboard to go back. Can't use a mouse.

Nice work though.

been really wanting and waiting for custom emby theater theming to really kick off.. loading this now and will give feedback as i use it.. nice work @@flexage  thank you!

its "obvious" but missing step in the OP install steps is to go into settings/display and select flextuary as your skin... yea... no amount of waiting or restarts will help if that stays on "default skin" ;)

Thanks, I'll look in to bringing the back arrows to those pages.

I was in two minds about removing them completely, as they don't exist in the Kodi skin

Thanks, I hope it works pretty well.

Feedback any things that you think aren't quite right and I'll see if I can do something about them.

Re: the install issue... In my tests the active skin was automatically switched to Flextuary after install, but I guess mileage may vary.

I'll update the installation instructions after work to be safe

on movies top level... or tv top level.. any of those "library screens" PLEASE PLEASE give us paging/skipping ....  maybe pgup/pgdn keys on kb and something equivalent on remote.. "channel" or "page" whatever...

this was and still is sadly a day 1 issue for me with ET.. i just want to "jump" multiple rows as once...  ET put in the alpha picker.. which is "ok" but still i have enough movies/shows that even some letters need jump ability...

this is needed still in default theme as well @@Luke

This is one of my most wanted features as well. I'm not sure I have access to all of the keymappings to do this properly, and due to the responsive nature of skins in ET it might be near on impossible for me to count the number of rows of media items currently on screen so that I can scroll the correct Sumner of rows.

I'll certainly look into it, I may be able to come up with a middle ground, but I'd sure like to see something to handle this in the ET core.

Thanks for the screen cap! It helps!

This first release was mainly built for 16:9 HD resolutions, as I imagine ET as more of a living room client. But ill see if I can make it play nicer

Ok, those back arrows have been restored to the detail screens. If ET is running, it'll need restarting to get the update.
