This is great. My dynamic images sometimes change over time for some reason (or no reason) and it's nice to know that we can sort of force the representative content images to just the ones we want rather than relying on Emby to select them for us. This way, I can save these and if/when they change, I can just quickly change them back to the ones I want.

Good stuff.

Uploaded images should never change.

I played around with the exact images that I used to make mine... here is what Emby came up with.  Not too bad:

Any idea where poster.png is stored if you have Emby set to NOT store metadata with library?

I assume its not called poster.png because there would be more than one

Okay...

So I figured out how to trick Emby Server into creating the library poster you want.  I'll do a more detailed explanation later, but here is the short version.

1. Create a Folder accessible to Emby and put the 4 images you want to use in it.  I called my folder customposter.

2. Manage server and "Add Media Library".

3. Choose Content Type "Photos"

4. Pick a display name.  I called mine customposter again

5. Add a folder to the library and point it at the folder from step one.

6. Click Ok

7. Wait Patiently.... I Rescanned my library, but I don't know if that is needed.

8. Go and grab the poster.png file in the directory for that library.  I used directions in this post to figure that out.

9. Once you are done, you can get rid of that library.  Or, you can keep it (I made mine so only I see it) to create more custom posters.

10. Because I just feel better about having 10 steps.

It will be in  /metatadata/library

You can use the ParentId to find the folder (first 2 characters). Then there should be a folder for the whole ParentId.

That is where you will find poster.png

I'm running a linux docker server though... so it may be slightly different.

Yay finally.....

Had a bit of a fight to get it to work. Actually think it was a mistake to name the folder and library both Poster. Either it didn't like them having the same name or Poster is a reserved name or something. It wouldn't generate a composite image from the images in the Poster folder / library, and it wouldn't even show the files in that folder / library. Worked fine when I deleted and renamed everything though.

..... or maybe its just coincidence.

Does anyone know of a secret sauce to get Emby to make a new stripy thing a bit quicker. Am trying to make one for TuneIn from 4 photos in a folder but its taking days. Have tried restarting servers and rescanning libraries - do I just have to (try to) be patient ?

It shouldn't take that long at all.

What type of album did you create?

Home Videos & Photos

Hmmmm...

I don't have access to my server right now, but try changing the library to just "Photos" and doing a library scan.

Photos doesn't exist any more, think it got merged with Home Videos. Or it morphed into Home Videos and Photos.

Maybe I'll try Unset.

Tried Unset, hasn't produced a nice image yet. Maybe I'm in too much of a rush, though the other folder has had about 4 days to make one now. Oh well first world problems.

I've done it manually.

Made a stripy image manually ? Like in Photoshop or something ? Tried that ages ago, this seemed like a nice, simple, lazy way to make one. Still is if actually does it at some point.

Yeah... I used Gimp.

That's actually how this whole thread started because I wanted one for live tv.

That does sound familiar. Never got very far with DIY - spend so little time on graphic type stuff it takes me forever to do the simplest thing cos I've forgotten it all the next time I need to use it.

And now three of the ordinary images have been replaced (Documentaries, Home Videos and Photos) but it will not touch those two at the bottom.

I wonder if something has changed since they removed the option for a pure photo library? Have you tried different image file types? Maybe that new library type only pulls thumbnails from video files and not photos?

I wonder what would happen if you made a video of the pictures you want to use?

I tried it tonight with a folder that had nothing but photos.

It worked fine, so there must be something else going on with your situation.
