My stepson is an adult child with Autism. We're looking into buying him his own Roku for his room so he can access MediaBrowser on it. The simple interface makes it easy for him to get around. It's so simple to use, and unlike an HTPC it's basically "fool-proof", making it a good option for someone that isn't tech-savvy, since there really isn't any way for the user to "break" it like I do on my HTPC all the time lol. If only it had Airplay... There is twonky beam for the roku which does include airplay support (it's clumsy, but not as clumsy as using the roku remote app to do this like described above). You can have mediabrowser3 on android use twonky as the external player and this works (but you hear alot of beep beep beep as it switches into play mode on the roku after you beam content to it). The roku3 is my primary method to watch on tv. I have no interest in live-tv support as my goal is to have a personal netflix locally. Having internet ability isn't even required for me either. The limited abilities of the roku at the present time seem to give enough functionality for me to consider it more than acceptable in it's present version. It isn't required to have all this eye candy really (the backgrounds, full posters), as long as what is required works: the synopsis, title/episode/season, last-watched/resume indicators, newly added, etc. Not to mention the remote, i love the simplicity of the remote to control mb3 compared to beaming anything over twonky (unless I have to ) edit: forgot to mention, thanks for such a great roku client that supports my rather large library of stuff.. If only it had Airplay... If you have the Roku app installed on your device it allows you to send media to the Roku. At least it does for my iPhone. Can't send Roku content to an AppleTV though. whitestrat13 33 Posted February 11, 2014 Share Posted February 11, 2014 I picked up a Roku 3 a little over a week ago, and I am thoroughly impressed. The interface is simple, but it works quite well. For 90% of rooms the Roku is totally sufficient. The only reasons why it may "fall short" are do to limitations of the Roku itself. The limited surround support (only Dolby Digital 5.1, AC3 format), and the inability to direct play very high bit rate BD MKV rips are the main issues. The good thing is that these things will only be missed if the user has invested A LOT of money in a dedicated theater room. I think that the Roku has one of the best music interfaces of all of the current MB3 clients, and I use it daily. I just wish I could browse the library while music is playing. Yeah I do think that can be improved. Hopefully the server eventually adds support for queuing up a playlist. Right now I just load all the songs of an album into the audio player and play one at a time. The only problem I haven't come up with a fix for is how to stop playback when your currently playing something in the background. For instance you queue up an album then go browse the rest, how do you stop it once leaving that area. That is a design problem I just haven't figured out yet. I've been able to organize my media files finally on my server and access them easier and even have cover art and nice stuff to look at.
