Suggested movie only showing unplayed and based on last movie played

I am running 4 rokus and they all have the same issue.

After a recent server update (there have been a few lately) my rokus have not been suggesting movie titles as it did before.

1. It is only suggesting unplayed content rather than titles from the full library as it did before.

2. It is only suggesting based on the last movie played rather than cycling through the last 5-7 when I clicked ok on the suggest movie based on tile.

Is there a setting I don't know about? Can't find anything.

Roku Emby version 2.2 build 4

Server: 3.0.6020.0

Danke.

I can't reproduce this. @@speechles can you? How does it look from the web app?

I can shortly. I havent updated my server to that version yet. I am still on 3.0.5972.

Been on vacation last 4 days, no internet, no phones, no distractions. Got back last night. Catching up on things, filling missing episodes in, and what not.

I will be able to update the server later tonight (without my daughter complain emby is down like she always does) and see what happens. :)

Okay, tested this and it works as it always has for me. No issue.

When I click the "refresh" icon in the suggested row the items in the row change for me. It will let me cycle just fine. If you restart the emby server, does this fix the behavior? The suggested toggle in the movies row uses a "because you" api call. It calls it "similar to" on the roku display, but it is actually using the /recommendations endpoint.

On the web client, you can browse to your "movies" section. Now go to the "suggested" tab and scroll down. There should be a list of items, because you liked...., because you watched..., etc. These are what should be appearing in the roku app for you on the suggested row.

Have you tried the blue neon app on your roku? This app includes a "go to ..." option in the "more..." menu on an items detail screen. In this "go to ..." menu is an option "go to similar titles". Using this lets you show similar items, but on a more grand scale. It will suggest similar movies and shows based upon your item. So movies can show tv shows similar, and tv shows can show movies similar. This is using the /similar endpoint.

No, I restart the server daily, but it still does this quite regularly. Should I reinstall?

I will check out that app.

Maybe you could show a screenshot of the app so that we can visualize the problem? thanks.

Try updating to the latest version of Emby Server.

I am using 3.0.6070.0 and I use auto update.

I came here to write about this exact same problem, both the official Roku app and the Neon Blue app do the same thing.

Suggested movie only shoes based on one movie, and selecting refresh only refreshes to that movie.  It will rearrage the order of some of the suggestions, but they remain the same movies and for the same movie.

This behavior does not reflect on the Web client, which shows several suggestions which do change.

My server version is: Version 3.1.102.0

Both Roku apps are up to date (or as up to date as they can be with auto update turned on).

Don't know about every platform but current beta server is 3.1.118.0.

I see why it does this. The roku is limiting itself to the first category. This will always be "because you watched". This might produce the same results over and over if you have only one recently played movie. Not sure how "recently played" is decided here though.

rec = movieResponse.recommendationtype
    if rec = "SimilarToRecentlyPlayed"
        rectype = "You Watched"
    else if rec = "SimilarToLikedItem"
        rectype = "You Like"
    else if rec = "HasDirectorFromRecentlyPlayed"
        rectype = "Watched Director"
    else if rec = "HasLikedDirector"
        rectype = "Liked Director"
    else if rec = "HasActorFromRecentlyPlayed"
        rectype = "Watched Actor"
    else if rec = "HasLikedActor"
        rectype = "Liked Actor"
    else
        rectype = "No Reason"
    end if

I added all 6 categories and now in the blue neon app I can randomly get any of the above. This makes the suggested work more like the web client, since roku only gets 1 line to show. Now the roku cannot fit so much text onto the display hence the above missing some text the web client has. For example "because you watched" becomes just "you watched". Otherwise text gets cut off and it looks silly.

I will have a new blue neon release tomorrow that corrects this.

Don't know about every platform but current beta server is 3.1.118.0.

I know this isn't related to the original thread (but the issue seems fixed, at least in Roku Blue), so I just wanted to touch base on this ...

1. Auto beta updates are enabled, but even just running a check for updates, it tells me that no updates are found and that I am up to date.  It is set to run as a service.

2. Tried to manually update the beta using the beta installer ... it tells me that .NET 4.6.2 is needed.

Unsure why this is doing this or why it was saying that I am up to date since as of this post, It looks like beta is up to 3.1.121, and yet it still tells me my version 3.1.102 is the most recent version.

EDIT: Well, looks like I had 4.6.1, and upon trying to update to 4.6.2, I broke my install, and now I can't use Emby at the moment.  Further research indicates that 4.6.2 does not support vista, and if that's the case, then it means Emby no longer supports vista.  Oh oh.
