Unable to connect to server - using correct Emby Channel, tried beta also

Iv been an emby on roku3 user for about 3 months -  WMC for years since mb2.  A few days back emby would not connect - may have happened earlier however as the Wife prefers Plex and I have them both running until Emby sorts out native Xbox360/Xbox1.  I thought it may be related to the latest beta sevrer update - but others say it is working.

Click on the channel, pauses fr a while, Says unable to connect, then shown my emby media name that I can connect too, I click on it, says unable to connect.  I have deleted the app, re-installed the app, registered via forum/pin, same issues, re-tried but connected manually, same issue - restarted my server etc etc - note WMC is working fine.  Other channels are fine (plex, netflix etc).

I even did a factory reset on the Roku and re-set it all up.

I checked the emby logs - but not sure exactly what I am looking for (attached).

Thanks.

I did that many times.

I will go and try it again - seeing as Emby has updated itself to .3 beta.

Unable to connect again - fresh install of the channel, entered the Ip address, and the port (default port), done and..... unable to connect.

Note - Plex, netflix all working.  Attached server log from the activity timeframe.

uuuummmm - that seems like a shed load of effort for something that should just work.

As I said, Plex works, so we will use Plex from now on on the Roku.  A factory reset should have resolved anything on the Roku side.  The plex app was preferred by the wife (and I was manually updating the watched lists on Emby).

Plex native app has also replaced Emby on all the Xbox360's in the house (no more WMC), I have had no 'support calls' from any of the kids - and it is the only thing that works on the single XBox1 we have also.

Plex installs as a free app on the new Samsung curved TV (however we sideloaded Emby for comparison - which was great - but if you are paying for the plex pass anyway - then may aswell use that more to get the value).

Maybe this is the point where I convert to plex completely (seeing as it works on my new Netgear Readynas also) and come back to look at Emby in the future when you have all the eggs aligned (Windows 10, native apps for Xboxes etc).

Plex has not failed us on any devise in the house so far.

I have raised posts before on the decisions of Emby vs Plex for my whole of house support.

Once Windows 10 is out, and we see where Emby is placed in the future, I will come back and look.

So long for now...........

Thanks.

Well this is a community project and we all work together. Without debugging information it will be hard to trace down.  I did go ahead and increase the connection timeouts so you could also try the beta channel and see if that helps. It's now up to version 2.10:

Cool - it is all working again now - using the beta channel 2.10.  Thanks for that.

spoke too soon - dunno why it worked once, same issue again.

Never mind, I will check it periodically to see if it works again with each update.

Thanks.

Threatening to go to another product doesn't really do any good for anyone.  I understand it's frustrating when it doesn't work, but lashing out about it doesn't solve anything.  And yes even Plex has it's issues, although they may not be happening to you.  Read their forums if you have any doubts.

I had this happen to me a few months ago and for some reason I had to open up my task manager and end the emby server process manually (clicking restart server didn't actually shut the server down).  Once I did that and then started the server back up everything worked fine.  I'm not sure what happened, but that solved it for me.  Hopefully you can get yours working again.

I have rebooted many times, restarted many times, plus there were two beta emby updates in that time frame which also had restarts.  I have a wife factor to contend with which is the issue here, she just wants to use plex, and I keep harassing her to 'test' Emby.  I only have the one Roku3 to play with.

I am off to the US the end of this month and that is my drop dead decision time for the way forward on the whole of house media decision (as prices cheaper there for Roku and Amazon Fire TV).  As Emby does not yet have a native xbox app, I have to decide if I am to buy streaming boxes to replace the XBoxes and use emby - but as emby now does not work on the Roku either, I am in a bit of a hole.

Issue for Emby at this point in time is thus :

No more WMC as Windows 10

Plex works on 360 and XBOne natively - kids all moved to this now

Plex works on my NAS

Plex works on Roku player, Emby did.

Plex works on Samsung TV natively (but Emby has been downloaded using forum info manually)

If this were the case, surely there would be others experiencing the same issue. Since there isn't its "local" to "just you" in either your server ready-state, or your roku settings.

Make sure you delete any applications on your roku related to the name "Mediabrowser". Only use the app on roku branded emby. The old "Mediabrowser" application can goof your emby roku settings.

When you first start your emby server, it may take several minutes before any client can access it. You can tell when you can, because the "home" screen of the web-client will populate with items. When it doesn't populate, the server isn't ready to communicate with clients yet. The amount of time it takes for the server to be ready to accept clients varies, the better the server specs are the faster it is ready. Have you tried a web browser and used the web-client to confirm your server is ready to accept connections from clients?

As I said, I did a factory reset on the roku, and I have only installed the beta channel.

The emby server has been running all the time since each restart, I always fire up the web client after the restart and click on new TV Shows also - its been a habit forever.

I have always sneaked in a test for the manual connect on the roku when I can.

I agree, the issue is on my end, as other peoples Roku's are working fine.

For example, It is now working again......  I just don't get when it randomly works (worked twice now, once yesterday and once today, but still working at the moment).  I will leave it running on there for now, while no-one is using it and will exit later and connect again.....

Thanks.

Will not connect Beta or App.... can see the server just the constant unable to connect

Sorry to hear that, but we need more information in order to diagnose. Maybe you could provide some detailed information about what you did, what you clicked on, what you saw, etc?

One of my Roku sticks (3400M) quit working this past week too. My wife signed out of my account, tried to go back in with another user, says retrieving, then kicks back out to the home screen.

Bedroom Roku stick (3500R) works fine.

Android tablets work fine.

Emby Beta doesn't work.

Emby server doesn't list the device as active or recent, so apparently it doesn't see the connection.

Do you use Emby connect or manual connection to your server?

try connecting manually and entering your server's ip address. If you've already done this, verify the ip address that you're entering is correct.

Manual connection here.

I removed the public and beta channels, restarted the Roku, added the public channel back, and was able to connect. Maybe it missed an update before? My wife and kids are happy again. Thanks!
