View Libraries as they are stored: by Folders

My solution was to quickly put together this: https://github.com/panta82/emby-fixer

This is a difficult problem to tackle due to the way emby is treating folders vs albums. Folders have generic sub-items you can navigate to, but music functionality is disabled (play all, shuffle all, etc.). Albums have a list of songs from all the subfolders, aggregated into one list, but no "sub-items" you can navigate to. Any one directory can either be treated as a "folder" or "album". Not both.

This is fine if you have a well organized and tagged collection of albums. But if you have just random directories where you put random songs and create random subdirectories, emby's system really isn't well suited for this.

Emby can probably become better at deciding what should be "folder" and what "album", but its fundamental design will always make it a bit janky to use with file-based music collections.

I Totally Love Emby from every other point of view over plex apart from this folder issue which has been going on since 2018.

Dont get why your folders name just doesnt come up as your folders name.

And when you initially do a file scan it adds them as you have pit them then later it change3s all of them.

I have over 10,000 songs from my Djing days all in different catagories and folders so Deep House, Trance etc bbut the odd thing is some folders are right.

For instance Drum & Bass folder says Drum and Bass But Trance folder says some random song name its crazy.

Why is it so hard to fix?

I have this "issue" too with the latest version but i solve it manually. I edited every folder with the wrong name and corrected that names.

So this happens while every folder will recognized as an album, when there is one or more songs inside and then the folder will be named as the album in emby.

But anyway its not an issue, its the current folder design for music in emby.

Ok so first pic shows my folders on synolgy drive.

Second pic shows music folder during a scan file at 90% and you can see most are right.

Hardstyle it doesnt reconiose as it makes it an album that in the folder called climax

The 3rd pic shows once 100% complete and as you can see its changed most folders.

very odd.

sorry read the pics from what i say from bottom to top sorry i uploaded in wrong order5e2703dca9058_Screenshot20200121at135930

Right our folder view is not a true folder view at this time. It will be affected by music metadata. But it's something that can be improved in future updates. Thanks.

I just wanted to reply to this topic to say thank you to the devs, not sure what changed but I tried adding my music collection as Mixed Content again today and it actually shows the folder view exactly as it should. I've been waiting on this for a long time. THANK YOU!

This should be resolved in 4.6.0.10+ as you will have a true folder view for Music.

we need a true folder view that will shows the stored files as they are, it's impossible for me to organize thousands of mp3 files with metadata

thanks for the update, what about the video libraries? will this option be available for them or it will work only with music libraries ?

Hi, I'm having a similar problem to what other people were describing in this thread, but with the Folders view for TV. I have some video files for tv shows where each episode is split into two parts (so e.g. The Genius S02E01part1.mp4 and The Genius S02E01part2.mp4). In a different folder, I also have some behind-the-scenes videos, named things like "[ENG] TG S2E1 BTS - Lost Garnet - from YouTube.mp4". Emby treats all of these files as variations of a single episode, and this is true even in the Folders view, and is also true even if I use the Mixed Content library type. Is there a setting I'm missing to really display the actual file structure, or alternatively is it possible to turn off the variations feature? @Happy2Play

From a Series standpoint there really isn't much of a Flattened folder view as you still have to maintain Season/Episode numbers.

Only thing I can think of would-be Home Videos and Photos library, but you will not get online metadata.

Ideally, if possible, you would join these part1 part2 episode parts into one item.

As for the behind-the-scenes videos you would need to put them in Season 0/Specials folder and name and assign them S00Exxx number above the Shows existing special then apply the Airs during/Airs before episode number.

I tried Home Videos and Photos library as well, but even then it would still combine multiple videos into one.

Yeah, if needed I could probably figure out how to join video files and such, but it'd be way more convenient if Emby would just let me see the files without trying to do any matching. I don't really have any need for the "versions" feature at the moment (I'd even be fine without any metadata at all, I mainly just want a nice interface for watching video files on a smart tv), so it'd be great if I could just turn it off.

You can Split apart versions via the button in the Media Info section near the bottom but since they are the same Season/Episode identifier watching one watches both.

There is no way to disable automatic versioning that I know of as Season/Episode ids will make it automatic to my knowledge.

i've been reading this thread, i've been searching for a solution but i don't see it:
- when i go to my music and open the folder view, i see all the folders. but when i open a folder i only get track name instead of "artist - track" information.
all my folders containt various artists so when i open it i expect to see both artist and track, just like i would in a playlist. they're actually all formed like playlists.
all of the files are properly tagged.

is there a possibility to see both "artist - track" in folders and not only "track"? i can't seem to find a solution.
i will see all of them if i play the folder and go to the playlist, but i'd really like to see the "artist - track" view in the folders for music.
