Android Client - Continue playing when screen off/device locked

I would like to see the android client allow for playback to continue whenever the screen shuts off (including when the device gets locked).

I should also point out that I do have task killers etc... installed on my device, so it's possible that the app is already capable of this, and that it's a 3rd party app interfering.

Use Watchdog Lite (or similar) instead of a Task Killer. Edited by CBers

Thanks for the recommendation CBers;

Can you clarify whether or not the app continues playback for you when you lock your device?

I do have a standard task-killer type app (ZD-box), but it's set to manual killing only.

I also have an app similar to Watchdog Lite (greenify) installed, but I haven't set MediaBrowser to be greenified.

In short, I don't think my device's 3rd party apps are the root cause of the problem, but I'm not going to rule that possibility out completely.

Music is the main reason I'd want it... possibly music videos also, but that's definitely not a priority for me.

I'd prefer it for everything.

When watching a movie/TV episode, sometimes I might want to check out IMDB to see more about an actor, whilst playback is ongoing.

It might be useful for video too if the HDMI output can continue. Right now you have to leave the screen on which eats battery unnecessarily (if it's technically possible to continue HDMI output).

I would like to do something here. It won't be until after 1.0 though.

Also... I was actually using my phone as a mp3 player with my client, but the screensaver, while neat on an android mini-pc connected to a TV is just a battery drainer when on a mobile client.

Redshirt, to piggy back off this, could there be a "keep alive" option set even when the video is buffering.

I still playing with the bit rate setting to get that "sweet spot", but I notice if a video takes longer than normal to buffer, my screen will lock and that seems to kill the buffer process.

That sounds more like something else is happening. I'd like to see the client and server logs for when that happens please.

Okay, should I just PM them to you?
