TonkaTuff 6
Hi. I recently upgraded from MB2 & am enjoying learning my way around and much improved performance. What is the correct structure for TV Specials? I looked in the Library structure info but there's no mention of specials for TV there, only specials for movies. In MB2 I used to create a 'Season 00' folder and MB would pick up the specials from there. This doesn't seem to be working in MB3 so I'm now trying using a 'specials' folder in the Series folder. I'm running MB3 Server Version 3.0.5031.21343 Example: Path: \\Server\3tb\Max's TV Shows\Kung Fu Panda Legends of Awesomeness\Specials contains four *.avi files. The path \\Server\3tb\Max's TV Shows\ is mapped in a user media collection of type "TV Shows". MB3 is assigning: the series 'Display type" as "Folder" The season "Display type" as "Folder"; and the episodes "Display type"s as "Video" And MB3 is not downloading meta data for the series. I can't manually add the external references because the 'external ID' section on the metadata page contains no fields, probably because of the assignments above. I tried manually changing the "Display type" to what I think are the correct values: Series, Season & Episode respectively, but this made no apparent difference. I'm a bit puzzled as to the purpose of this field. It would make more sense to me if it was a drop list and the value dictated the fields that appear on the meta-data page. Clearly I'm doing something wrong. Help and advice most appreciated. Cheers. Edit: added version info Edited October 24, 2013 by TonkaTuff
Solution Starkadius 219 Posted October 24, 2013 Solution Share Posted October 24, 2013 (edited) I am currently using "Season 0" to accomplish this and naming them in episodic format while display type is set to "Season". "Season 0" appears as Specials. Edited October 24, 2013 by Starkadius
crashkelly 62
Best place to look is http://thetvdb.com/ and mimic the structure they use there. (IMO) For Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness (http://thetvdb.com/?tab=series&id=250632&lid=7) they have "Specials" set up with 6 episodes, although 3 of them are missed the "Originally" aired date. I still use MCM for TV and use the "Season 0" for the specials. When I get a special I check the episode and on TVDB and rename my file accordingly, Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness.S00E01.Holiday Special.xxx. Stuff after the S00E01 is not relevant as in my case MCM will grab the information from TVDB and rename the file as per my settings. If you are not using MCM it might be a little different, but the concept is the same. Cheers
TonkaTuff 6
Thanks Starkadius. I have reverted from 'specials' to 'Season 0' and MBM now appears to be handling the items correctly, as in your example. I'm still interested to learn the purpose of the 'Display type' field though. Is it intended to offer user control or just information? If the former, I drop list with a limited value set would make sense. If the latter, maybe is shouldn't be user editable at all. Thanks again.
ebr 14851
Display Type is used by a few components to further identify an item beyond its actual type in MB. One example is CoverArt. You can put a Display Type of "DVD" on a video that is actually a mkv video file and it will treat the item as a DVD.
