Collections Not Showing First Movie in Every Set

The external IDs were present for Back to the Future Part I except for the tmvb collection ID. I went into the "collections" MBS server view and attempted to refresh the entire collection, at which point it told me the action would be "queued."  However, no changes have occurred.

Here's my concern: these movies were always appearing in the "collections" before whatever change took place. I have not paid close attention to when exactly "collections" were brought back into MBS as a mainstay (I know they were jettisoned from the MBC EHS for awhile, at least), but there's no reason why they should have stopped appearing/for this data to be lost. More strangely, some of these "collections" were only showing one movie (e.g., The Dark Knight Trilogy was previously only showing The Dark Knight), however now a couple of them are showing more movies again (e.g., now Batman Begins is showing up...but not The Dark Knight Rises to round out the set).

It's incredibly bizarre for at least one or two movies to suddenly start disappearing from basically each of my collections at the same time without my intervention.  This behavior is weird and I really think something is going on with the server, not my metadata management.

Really odd. Well now that there's more information provided, I'm sure someone will be able to solve this. I've had some difficulties with collections that would randomly lose movies, but that was a few months back and I'm sure it had been solved.

To Recap: TMDB collection ID was missing. You refreshed Back to the Future 1; did it add the collection ID to the external IDs? If yes, you then refreshed Box Sets via the plugin, correct? And that didn't group up your Back to the Future 1 to the collection? Auto box set process is really quick. Can you post your MBS log capturing the Refresh Box Sets process? Maybe it's skipping over for some reason.

The only reason why I'm recapping is because you mentioned refreshing the entire collection. I just want to make sure you took the right steps.  ^_^

I noticed today that within the "collections" category, my collections are generally not showing at least the first chronological movie (ex: Back to the Future Part II and III are visible, but not Back to the Future Part I).  This behavior is pervasive on MBS, MBC, the android client and the online client.  It should be noted that the missing movies (e.g., Back to the Future Part I) are visible and playable within the "movie" category itself. I have attempted restarting the server and performing manual library scans.

I have attached a link to my MBS log file.  Thanks in advance for your help.

Have you tried to Refresh Box Sets via the Auto Box Sets plugin? You can do this by going to your MB dashboard > Plugins > Auto Box Sets (click it) > Refresh Box Sets (at the bottom). If this doesn't work, you can manually add the missing movies to collections using the Metadata Manager and navigating to Collections > Back to the Future Collection (example) > Titles > Add.

Tried refreshing box sets per your suggestion, doesn't appear to have changed anything. Granted, my library is pretty large, but I think I afforded enough time.  That being said, I'm not overly excited about manually adding movies to collections given the size of the library (and that kind of defeats the purpose of an automated collections feature).

Any other ideas, forum?

I understand what you mean :).

Ok, well let's look at Back to the Future 1 only, for now. Is the metadata properly populated, especially the External IDs? You can always try to do a Refresh on the movie itself to see if it fixes it. I believe if it's missing the TMDB ID, you will need to Refresh Box Set again to make sure the change has been detected.

So, I decided to go through my entire library (and multiple subfolders like "Kid Movies" or "Documentaries") and manually download missing metadata.  Once saved, I then did a manual refresh of the auto box sets plugin.  My collections have fully reappeared.

I am not sure what explains why so many collections would suddenly lose data almost exclusively for the first chronological items (e.g., Anchorman 1, The Godfather Part 1, etc.).  This is particularly true because I intentionally only manipulate metadata for new individual items because I have been frustrated in the past by our inability to mass-lock an entire metadata category for a folder (e.g, lock all genre descriptions for music, lock all episode summaries for tv shows, lock artist names for all music, etc).  My understanding--unless something has changed--is that when locking a category for one folder, this does not result in the same metadata category for all subfolders becoming locked; such an effort must be done folder-by-folder. That is a separate request that I made several months ago, but point being, my tmdb collection IDs going missing was not the result of cavalier data refreshing or failing to save data...

In either event, many thanks to Angelblue05 for the efforts and I'll certainly provide an update if my collection IDs pull another Houdini.

the autoboxset plugin does blank out the tmdb collection Id's if it thinks the Id is no longer valid on Tmdb. It's possible there's an issue there where it'd doing it when it shouldn't

No, I think it only blanks them out if you manually remove the movie from the collection but I'll have to check after the weekend.

The only time the plug-in removes the tmdb collection id is when the server notifies us that that item has been removed from that collection.  So, unless that can happen in an instance other than the user manually doing it, then the plug-in can't be removing this information.
