Hide Libraries from specific clients

BAS

Recommended Posts

Was wondering if there is any chance of being able to hide specific libraries from specific clients. Currently I see we can hide libraries from specific users but I'm more after not having games, books, comics, music show up in my MBC setup or whatever client you want to avoid showing this content in.

yea agree here as well... with MB3 able to cover so many areas now, it'd be nice to target some clients for a more streamlined set of libraries and other clients to get the "kitchen sink" approach.

mods: can you move this to the FR -server area please so it can be voted on etc

I imagine the power users in here will like this idea a lot and it would be powerful.  However, from a normal user setup and usage standpoint it would also potentially be quite complex so it would need to be done in such a way that it didn't overwhelm the normal usage.  Probably only about 10% of you would ever configure this.

+1 from me if we can figure out a nice setting/solution for this :)

Maybe perhaps with the the new view menu inside of MBC this could be a possibility for the MBC client to not request certain content, similar to it hiding the live tv view in MBC. Either that or just a server option, not real sure what the best solution is.

Music has always been a performance hog in MBC and I havent yet made the switch to MB3 to handle my music as I'm a long standing user of Subsonic for my music. I would like to integrate Music into MB3 but need to be able to hide it from certain clients.

Anymore thoughts from other users or developers on a good way to go about this?

One way might be

to replicate watched and unwatched toggles across nominated grouped users.

This way, specific users can be set up for specific devices (constrained to specific devices using existing access interface), with the same watched status as the related user, but this user can use the existing library restrictions per user to achieve a library restrictions per the device.

all the ui would remain the same, save 1 additional interface to slave user accounts to one another, so watched /unwatched gets replicated..The user has exactly the same experience on the 'special' device except that they wont see some media folders.

an alternative might be

under current devices interface...to have an access tab , similar to the user tab which limits access to media folder by user, but in this instance by device.

Device access and User Access ..would be a bit like network share and file permission, ie both would have to satisfied to have the resultant access.

The advantage of suggestion 1, is all the heavy lifting is done offline, all the (client) code remains the same, its 'just' a plugin to synchronise watched status between users...albeit less elegant..

I really want to add music to my Emby Server, but can't until I can hide it from Emby for WMC.

i would just try it. it might be better than you're expecting.

It just comes down to the extenders and having the music in there causing a horrible lag usually on the EHS to get past that category. I'll put it back in and see what happens.
