	In a newly introduced emby client update (version 2.1.48g) on my Nvidia shield (version 9.2.4 (33.2.0.400)) has been broken overnight so now there is no audio for 70%+ of my media unless I turn on the following options:<br />
	Use the option to invoke a separate video player (it uses VLC and you are then opting out of all the emby playback magic)<br />
	Use the option to force non-supported dolby codecs (and the playback performance is then abysmal when scrubbing or play/pausing)
</p>

</p>

<p>
	Additional information: Emby Server Version is 4.9.5.0

	I know there has been a lot of related discussion on this topic, but i was unable to find a solution when i was searching the forum (so sorry if this is a duplicate post). I'm running the regular Android app (not the one for TV, as discussed in other threads) and trying to play an ATSC 3.0 station using my HDHR. I get a great video stream, but no audio. I have my Sheild connected to a Yamaha TSR-7850 audio receiver. When i stream Emby it appears to be 'direct playing' everything. My audio receiver says the audio input is PCM 2.0 (see screenshot) which doesn't look right. My audio receiver appears to be able to play many audio formats, however, i admit i couldn't find anything that specifically said it could or couldn't play AC4. Any suggestions on how to get audio working?? Thanks.

	This is a super long standing issue. When the Android app is running in TV mode, the search results are limited to 15 or so and is a horizontal list.
</p>

<p>
	Can we get one tiny fix so that it's like when running on a vertical screen or web browser where the list scrolls vertically and most critically, shows all results instead of cutting them off?
</p>

<p>
	I just enabled screen rotation on my phone while horizontal the results are also how I'd like which is non limited and vertically scrolling.
</p>

<p>
	Why is there seemingly special code to detect a TV screen ratio and/or running on a TV and severely limiting the feature for all these years?
</p>

<p>
	Thanks.

	Hi
</p>

<p>
	Am I the only one with that problem ? Since 1/2 weeks all my android players (whatever it's on Android TV, or my cell or phone running Emby Android app), it doesn't update anymore server about read status and progress (whatever I manually put a media as read or because I have read it till the end). It looks to coincide with my upgrade of server to 4.9.5.0
</p>

<p>
	Something also related is that everything that is played with Android Player doesn't show up anymore in Now Playing in the admin dashboard of Emby neither in Activity (only identification shows up).
</p>

<p>
	I'll be happy to share logs if needed in few days once back home.
</p>

<p>
	Thanks

	Following up on the earlier thread <a href="https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/143851-home-button-only-pauses/" rel="">Home button only pauses</a>, I figured I'd post this separately since it's a related but distinct issue that still needs attention.
</p>

<p>
	When you press the Home button on Android, Emby doesn't actually end or time out the current session and just pauses playback instead. This means that if you later reopen the app (even a day later), you're still logged in. This completely bypasses the intended PIN protection and now gives any other user full access to your protected libraries, plus full access to the server configuration settings.
</p>

<p>
	In that previous thread, @Luke mentioned that Emby should automatically time out after 10 minutes, but that's not working as intended. I've confirmed this multiple times on different Android/Google devices. I can press Home and leave the app closed overnight, but when I open Emby again the next day I'm still logged in.
</p>

<p>
	Could we please get clarification on whether this behavior is expected, and if not, when a fix might be implemented? This seems like a significant security concern, especially on shared devices, and it's worked like this for well over a year now as far as I know.

</p>

<p>
	Android TV: Emby for Android 3.4.74 on nVidia Shield 2017
</p>

<p>
	When I open a Photo library in the Android app, then press the 'shuffle' button, Emby chooses a random image in the library to start with, but then it shows photos in sequential order from there.  The sequence seems to follow whatever the current ordering of the library is set to.  So, if the order is set to "by Title," Emby might choose to start on image #34 (in order of Title) when I press 'Shuffle.'  But then, the images that follow are always #35, then 36, 37...  If the order is "by Date Added," then it may start on image #24, then it plays 25, 26, 27, etc., in order of date added.
</p>

<p>
	So the shuffle command isn't really shuffling -- it's just choosing a random starting place, then going sequentially.

	It seems I have the same problem. I no longer see any media, films, or series with the checkmark indicating that they have been viewed. I even tried importing the read statuses from Trakt, which is properly up-to-date. But on Emby, nothing was displayed as read.

	Is there any way to disable the zoom in/out transition effect that plays whenever loading a new page or view in the Emby Universal app for Android TV?
</p>

<p>
	This effect makes navigation feel noticeably clunky and slower than necessary, making the app look more like an early prototype than a polished, professional product. It’s especially frustrating because every other platform I’ve tested — including Emby for Android TV, Roku, web browser, Fire tablets, and Samsung TV — has much smoother, faster transitions without this distracting zoom animation.
</p>

<p>
	Even my Android phone, running the same version of the app, doesn’t show this issue. It seems to be specific to using the Universal app <em>on Android TV devices.</em>
</p>

<p>
	Here's a video showing the problem: you can clearly see how the background, thumbnails, icons, and other elements zoom in and out every time the view changes.
</p>

<p>
	Compared to other devices, it really hurts the user experience on Android TV, where fluid navigation is especially important. Please consider adding an option to disable this transition effect or removing it entirely for a smoother, more consistent experience across devices.

	So, when using the AndroidTV version, (which in my opinion, and after years of using both, is much better, more stable, faster) and when a video is paused for longer periods of time, and the screensaver kicks in, the video exits in the background. On the regular version this doesn't happen. The video stays on, and sometimes I forget about it, and when I come back to it, maybe the next day, the whole thing is almost frozen, I have to go to the home screen and kill the app. How to make it exit the video when the screensaver goes on?

	<span>Hi Emby Team,</span>
</p>

<p>
	<span>I am writing to report a specific playback issue I’ve encountered after updating my Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra to<span> </span></span><strong><span>One UI 8.0 (Android 16)</span></strong><span>.</span>
</p>

<p>
	<span>The issue occurs exclusively when using<span> </span></span><strong><span>Samsung DeX</span></strong><span><span> </span>with an external monitor. It seems that the Emby app is incorrectly identifying the external display context, forcing the video to render directly on the screen surface (likely triggering Android's secondary display/Presentation API) rather than playing within the user-defined window.</span>
</p>

<p>
	<span>Here are the details:</span>
</p>

<p>
	<strong><span>Environment:</span></strong>
</p>

<ul>
	<li style="font-size:14px;">
		<p>
			<strong><span>Device:</span></strong><span><span> </span>Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra</span>
		</p>
	</li>
	<li style="font-size:14px;">
		<p>
			<strong><span>OS:</span></strong><span><span> </span>Android 16 / One UI 8.0</span>
		</p>
	</li>
	<li style="font-size:14px;">
		<p>
			<strong><span>App Version:</span></strong><span><span> </span>Emby for Android 3.5.17</span>
		</p>
	</li>
	<li style="font-size:14px;">
		<p>
			<strong><span>Mode:</span></strong><span><span> </span>Samsung DeX (connected via USB-C to an external monitor)</span>
		</p>
	</li>
</ul>

<p>
	<strong><span>The Problem:</span></strong><br />
	<span>When I attempt to play a video in DeX mode, the video does not stay inside the Emby app window. Instead, it forcefully overlays the entire external monitor.</span>
</p>

<ul>
	<li style="font-size:14px;">
		<p>
			<strong><span>Aspect Ratio Behavior:</span></strong><span><span> </span>It doesn't stretch to fill; rather, it "tops out" the screen width or height based on the video's aspect ratio, leaving the rest of the DeX desktop visible behind it (e.g., top/bottom or sides are transparent/desktop).</span>
		</p>
	</li>
	<li style="font-size:14px;">
		<p>
			<strong><span>Loss of Control:</span></strong><span><span> </span>Once playback starts, there are<span> </span></span><strong><span>no UI controls</span></strong><span><span> </span>(OSD) available on the external screen. I cannot pause, seek, or interact with the video. The video layer seems to exist "above" the window manager.</span>
		</p>
	</li>
</ul>

<p>
	<strong><span>The "Back" Button Bug (The 3-Step Glitch):</span></strong><br />
	<span>When I try to exit playback (using the phone's back gesture, the DeX touchpad, </span>or the back button (side key) on mouse<span>), the behavior is very erratic:</span>
</p>

<ol>
	<li style="font-size:14px;">
		<p>
			<strong><span>1st Back:</span></strong><span><span> </span>The video layer disappears, leaving a black rectangle of the same size.</span>
		</p>
	</li>
	<li style="font-size:14px;">
		<p>
			<strong><span>2nd Back:</span></strong><span><span> </span>The black rectangle disappears, revealing the original Emby app window. The player UI (pause/play icons) is visible but the content area is black. Controls here are unresponsive; pressing pause/play does nothing.</span>
		</p>
	</li>
	<li style="font-size:14px;">
		<p>
			<strong><span>3rd Back:</span></strong><span><span> </span>Finally returns to the video detail/preview page.</span>
		</p>
	</li>
</ol>

<p>
	<strong><span>Different Launch Scenarios:</span></strong>
</p>

<ul>
	<li style="font-size:14px;">
		<p>
			<strong><span>Launched from DeX Screen:</span></strong><span><span> </span>The issue happens as described above. No controls are accessible.</span>
		</p>
	</li>
	<li style="font-size:14px;">
		<p>
			<strong><span>Launched from Phone Screen:</span></strong><span><span> </span>If I start playback on the phone screen while connected to DeX, the video instantly projects to the external monitor (hijacking the screen). The phone screen turns into a "remote" (showing the black playback UI). Interestingly, controls on the phone screen (seek/pause)<span> </span></span><span><span>do</span></span><span><span> </span>control the video on the monitor, but the monitor display is still not in a windowed mode.</span>
		</p>
	</li>
</ul>

<p>
	<strong><span>Troubleshooting Attempts:</span></strong><br />
	<span>I have already tried the following system settings with no success:</span>
</p>

<ul>
	<li style="font-size:14px;">
		<p>
			<strong><span>Samsung Labs:</span></strong><span><span> </span>Toggled "Multi window for all apps" (on/off).</span>
		</p>
	</li>
	<li style="font-size:14px;">
		<p>
			<strong><span>GoodLock &gt; MultiStar:</span></strong><span><span> </span>Toggled options like "Stay in split screen" (on/off).</span><br />
			<span>Nothing changed the behavior.</span>
		</p>
	</li>
</ul>

<p>
	<strong><span>Comparison:</span></strong>
</p>

<ul>
	<li style="font-size:14px;">
		<p>
			<strong><span>Other Apps:</span></strong><span><span> </span>MX Player and VLC work perfectly (they respect the DeX window).</span>
		</p>
	</li>
	<li style="font-size:14px;">
		<p>
			<strong><span>Photos:</span></strong><span><span> </span>Viewing photos within Emby works perfectly (contained within the window).</span>
		</p>
	</li>
</ul>

<p>
	<span>It feels like the app is detecting the external screen and defaulting to a "Cast" or "Presentation" mode instead of standard windowed playback, likely due to changes in how Android 16 handles display contexts.</span>
</p>

<p>
	<span>Any advice or a fix in upcoming updates would be greatly appreciated. This severely impacts multitasking on DeX.</span>
</p>

<p>
	<span>Thanks!</span>

<p>
	Today i found (imho) a bug in the Emby app. When you start playback and minimize the app ro check mails or so and try to increase the volume, nothing happens. But in the moment you go back to the Emby app, all klicks suddenly were made and the volume increases terribly.
</p>

<p>
	Please change .
</p>

<p>
	Best Regards
</p>

<p>
	Max

	Hi,
</p>

<p>
	The playback device is ugoos am9 pro.<br />
	Client is latest emby for android and emby for android tv.<br />
	Both of them has following issues:<br />
	1. Purple color when playing DV Profile 5 content, even the box do support it.<br />
	2. Hi-end audio codecs are down mixed to AC3 but not passthrough, even all my devices support that.<br />
	<br />
	Tried with some third party client app like Moonfin, Yamby, all of them work fine without above two issues.<br />
	Please, think about to upgrade the playback engine of emby client! Looking to other popular playback apps in the market, they are widely include at least two playback engine into the app - the native media3 core, and the mpv core.

	This is kind of a nuisance, because I occasionally fall asleep in front of my phone/tablet, and  ‏it stays ‏on until the morning. In phones that have AMOLED display  or similar  this can ruin the screen, but even without that it just needlessly discharges. Can this be fixed?

	When playing Hebrew subtitles (RTL) during transcoded playback, punctuation marks appear on the wrong side (e.g. periods, commas, hyphens).
</p>

<p>
	Example:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	&gt; הגנרל איבד את אחד מחייליו. אתה יודע-
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	appears with reversed punctuation only when transcoding — direct play looks fine.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Details:
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Subtitle format: SRT (UTF-8)
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Language: Hebrew (RTL)
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	OS: Android 16 Phone.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Happens on transcoded streams only
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Direct play → OK
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Seems like ffmpeg or Emby’s subtitle renderer mishandles RTL text direction during transcoding.

	Hi, I’m having an issue with Dolby Vision playback on a Philips OLED809 Google TV.
</p>

<p>
	Some of my files contain both Dolby Vision and HDR10+ metadata. When I play them through Emby on the Philips TV, the TV always switches to HDR10+ / HDR10+ Adaptive instead of Dolby Vision.
</p>

<p>
	I tested the same files with Emby on two different TCL TVs, and they trigger Dolby Vision correctly there. So I’m not sure if this is an Emby issue, a Philips Android/Google TV issue, or just how this TV reports/handles HDR capabilities.
</p>

<p>
	The files are Direct Play, not transcoding. Is there any way in Emby to prefer Dolby Vision over HDR10+ on this device, or is this controlled entirely by the TV/system player?
</p>

<p>
	Happy to provide logs if needed. But I think it's more like a client side issue so I don't think the server log could help much.
</p>

	I wanted to start watching a movie but then wondered why it wouldn't start. The TV switched to DV mode, but the picture stayed black. Using the remote, it looked like playback was paused, but it wouldn't resume on unpausing. Switching the audiostream however worked.
</p>

<p>
	I went to a computer and logged into the emby server and started playback from there (browser). The audiostream worked fine.
</p>

<p>
	Back to the TV, and switching around between the audiostreams. On rare occasions the not working audiostream would start playing, but I cannot reproduce this. All others worked for the Android application (at least one of them is using the same codec).
</p>

<p>
	Emby server is latest stable, Android application is latest beta (public IP removed- why is that in there?), logs attached.
</p>

<p>
	Thanks

	Hi
</p>

<p>
	I have a problem with Emby for Android on an NVidia Shield Pro 2019.  Emby for Android is v3.5.36 but I have had this issue for at least a year or two so is not specific to this version.
</p>

<p>
	When I start live TV or a recorded movie sometimes I just get a spinning circle permanently and playback never starts.  Restarting Emby also does not fix this, I have to reboot the entire Shield in order to get playback to work again.  Its intermittent so I can then start playback a few more times before it happens again.
</p>

<p>
	This only ever happens at the start of playback.  Once it has started it will continue playing without fault.
</p>

<p>
	I have tried disabling Direct Stream and also reduced the quality to 1080p but this makes no difference.  I've reset the Shield to factory defaults and installed Emby for Android again but its still the same.  The Shield is on the latest firmware (firmware upgrades over the past year or two have also made no difference)
</p>

<p>
	I have several other android devices (a smart TV, tablet and phones) all running Emby for Android but none have this issue, so it is specific to the Shield.
</p>

<p>
	Does anyone have any idea what the problem might be and is there a fix?<br />
	Are there any diagnostics I can check that might help?<br />
	<br />
	Many thanks,<br />
	Warren.

	Hey there, long time lurker, first time poster. Before I get into it, just want to say thanks for Emby and all the hard work that's put into it. This app is and has been for many years, my favorite media server and player, starting back with MediaBrowser.
</p>

<p>
	I'm using the Google TV Streamer with a Samsung G80SD monitor, and a Samsung HW-S60D soundbar connected through HDMI. Everything is fully updated, Emby for Android version is 3.4.20. I also have Emby for Android TV version 2.1.22.
</p>

<p>
	I do prefer the Emby for Android settings interface and app as a whole,  but I would like to request a feature added that Emby for Android TV has. It has to do with the Allow TrueHD Pass-thru setting. With that unchecked, TrueHD works for playback on Emby for Android TV. That same setting does not exist in the regular Android version and TrueHD does not work.
</p>

<p>
	I have also discovered a bug with both apps on the Streamer. (This works fine on my Fire TV cube 3, so it appears to be just a problem with the Streamer.) I did test the Streamer with a different TV to be certain. Certain Dolby Vision files will not play. These files appear to be hybrid as they also have HDR10+ metadata. Other Dolby Vision files with just HDR10 metadata play fine. This is of value as the G80SD does not have Dolby Vision, but does have HDR10+. I tested a file with only HDR10+ metadata without Dolby Vision and it plays fine. I also stripped out the HDR10+ metadata using DoVi Tool on one of the hybrid Dolby Vision files and the it plays fine. Otherwise, those files are playing (I hear the audio) but only has a black screen. The G80SD has Tizen smart TV features and I installed Emby on that. Through there, the files with Dolby Vision with HDR10+ metadata play fine, but it also has the issue with TrueHD audio (due to missing that setting) and also will not pass through DTS. DTS does work properly in both Emby for Android and Emby for Android TV on the streamer. Whew, that was a lot of info, sorry if it's confusing. Anyway, I've attached screenshots of mediainfo on two of the hybrid files that do not work. Also, one for a file that does work.

	I know this topic isold but I haveing the Same issue from my side as well.
</p>

<p>
	On Emby for Android last update 3.5.28.<br />
	In addition, I noticed another issue while transcoding with mobile phones (IOS and Android)<br />
	When set to Auto (with mobile data) or force transcoding, the subtitle are multiplar when you Fast forward / Go back / Orianted the screen and sometimes take a lot of time to display them.<br />
	<span style="font-size:14px;"><strong>While playing in Direct play - No issue at all.</strong></span>
</p>

<p>
	I made some tested and found that enabling this 2 option under "Diagnostic Options" solved the multipal lines and the not showing the subtitle when jump forward.<br />
	- Disable HLS Subtitles
</p>

<p>
	- Disable Subtitle Streams<br />
	<br />
	But those settings are not resolved the issue with the subtitle out of sync while trnscoding only audio.
</p>

	<span style="font-size:18px;">I have a local only server, and my android device reconnects daily to the same network, but syncing does not start automatically and watched states are not synced with the server, except on random occasions that I don't quite understand.</span>
</p>

<p>
	I have to navigate into the server settings from the android device and manually start the <strong>Convert media</strong> and <strong>Transfer media</strong> tasks, which 'works' but only if the Android client sent the watched states to the server.
</p>

<p>
	I know about the two locations to manage downloads on android:
</p>

<ul>
	<li>
		The lower middle Downloads button on the home screen that lets you navigate into TV or Movies and play them
	</li>
	<li>
		The gear icon next to a Downloads row on the home screen which lets you see conversion progress and manage downloads
	</li>
</ul>

<p>
	I have used Plex Downloads for a long time and it worked great but their recent Android overhaul completely broke the basic functionality (automatically downloading N episodes, and refreshing on reconnect). Emby Downloads playback is overall a better experience except for this syncing issue.
</p>

<p>
	<span style="font-size:18px;">So, in short, there is a problem with the Emby Android app syncing watched states for Downloaded episodes. If the server gets that sync data, that episode is deleted locally, and the next unwatched episode is Converted and Downloaded when scheduled. I have not found any scheduled task which activates syncing watched statuses from Android &gt; Server.</span>
</p>

<p>
	To get Emby Downloads to work I have to:
</p>

<ul>
	<li>
		Reconnect to the servers network <em>after watching episodes elsewhere</em>
	</li>
	<li>
		Connect back to the server in the app <em>using the saved IP config</em>
	</li>
	<li>
		Manually mark each episode <em>that was watched</em> <u>on Android</u> <em>as a watched episode</em> <u>on the Server</u>
	</li>
	<li>
		Manually delete the downloaded watched episodes on Android
	</li>
	<li>
		Manually trigger the Conversion task <em>through server settings</em>
	</li>
</ul>

<p>
	Server Version <strong>4.8.11.0</strong><br />
	Android Version: <strong>3.4.67</strong>
</p>

<p>
	Other info if it matters:
</p>

<ul>
	<li>
		I have the android client go into airplane mode every night
	</li>
	<li>
		I am not using Emby Connect so direct IP connection and no communications with the server while away from the servers LAN
	</li>
	<li>
		The success rate of syncing watched status with the server is roughly 20% (2-3 out of every 8-10 watched episodes sync watch states)
	</li>
</ul>

	I noticed that the universal Android app has grey bars during HRD video playback on Sony TVs. Kodi had a similar issue due to some sort of rendering method on Sony TVs and various other devices. An overlay setting was added to Kodi's advanced settings.xml file that allowed that to be dealt with. Attached are images showing the same HDR content played back on each of the apps on an older yet still highly capable Sony TV.
