Enable Real Time Monitoring Not Working

I have got Emby working well, for the most part.

One thing is subtitles.

With my old server, Video Station, I used to manually download the srt files, or convert other formats to srt, on an as needed basis.

Which was rarely.

With emby it appears that I can download srt, built in. Ok that is good.

I can download all of them in one go and if I need one its there.

But it does not work for me.

Just rebooted emby and re-entered my open subtitles credentials.

Then hit the Download Missing Subtitles task.

Took just over 1 minute to complete (no idea how long this took the first time I ran it)

But no subtitles.

I have hundreds of mp4 and mkv files so i would hope it would find one subtitle but none were found.

The log is full of entries but I have no idea what they mean.

Any ideas?

Ah could it be the port number?

I have setup a reverse proxy in the synolgy.

Just checking this is good now.

Think this is the reason why.

I cannot access emby on http://mydomain:8096 which is mentioned in the  log.,

It is only available on https and on 443

When i click the emby server app in the synolgoy I have to always delete the port from the url, else I get the error: SSL_ERROR_RX_RECORD_TOO_LONG.

I am going to have one last attempt at getting the SSL setup to work in Emby and scrap the reverse proxy.

Unless anyone knows how to fix the reverse proxy?

Emby had problems finding the cert last time after i converted the LetsEncrypt cert.

Change of plan. I cannot be bothered to go through the process of creating an SSL cert to work with Emby. I know I was doing this correct last time and the process is near identical to that of Plex which I had this working without issue.

Besides the reverse proxy is as elegant a solution.

Anyway, there is something more problematic going on here.

I am unable to access the http version of my web server.
Despite removing the htaccess file that forced https.

In the DNS there is no redirect,

Just the A Name pointing to my IP address.

In the web root and all folders there are no htaccess files (I just deleted any that were there).

In Synology I have turned off the redirect to https (but this did not work for web station, by design, in any case).

In Synology I have two reverse proxy entries. one for port 80 and the other for 443.

Both point to localhost on 8096.

In Synology Web Station I have removed the Virtual Host.

Ports 80 and 443 are both forwarded in the firewall (from 80 to 80 and from 443 to 443 as the reverse proxy handles the local port).

Even the document root, which still has the default web page, still redirects to https.

I have restarted the web station service.

I have restarted the Emby service.

I have as a last desperate measure just restarted the NAS.

I can find nothing that is forcing this redirect.

But something obviously is.

Anyone have any ideas?

I must be missing something!

Great! After a reboot the old document root does not work. Everything is now forwarded to emby! But still https!

Enough is enough. Going to use backups to restore everything (NAS setting and Emby Settings) back to ;last nights restore point.

I will just do what i did with video Station and download srt as I need them.

Nothing is worth this much effort!!

Had Emby working for a few days.

Love it, mostly!

Thought all the issues were behind me but found a couple today.

1. No subtitles get downloaded (never have been). Given up on this one. Will just download manually as and when needed. Easier!

2. Enable Real Time Monitoring Not Working. Waited 20 minute and video not available in TV series library.

Clicked the task 'Scan Media Library. A few seconds later the video was available in TV Show library.

It has an image and description of the episode.

OK I can handle doing this manually every time I add new content. Not a biggie.

Look in folder on server.

All other videos have associated nfo, bif and thumb.jpg files.

Only difference is all other video files are mkv. This time I added mp4 as trying to prevent *all* transcoding.

MP4 in other locations have these associated files.

Try some other tasks.

As expected subtitles do not appear when running *download missing subtitles'. Like I said not a biggie.

Run *Thumbnail Image Extraction* Still no more associated files.

Description for the episode is viewable. But no nfo file?

Go into metadata editor and add test word to end of description.

No nfo created.

Go to play file and the word I added is now part of the description.

All images appear to be there as for other episodes but no thumbnail file or bif.

Are these files going elsewhere?

They should not be! No settings have been changed and all options for library state to use the media folders.

OK looks like there have been some additions today in:

/var/packages/EmbyServer/target/var/metadata

Checking to see if this new episode is there!

OK I did run the refresh cast and crew today but cancelled it after a few minutes.

/var/packages/EmbyServer/target/var/metadata

Looks like just posters for this have been added today (for the show I just added).

Also looks like all(?) subtitles are here too!

Including some added this morning (for movies added days ago).

Quick check and one is for a movie, despite save subtitles into media folders being checked on the movies library.

The structure of the folders in this location are a bit hard to understand, but I have checked all I can for today's date and cannot find the nfo data for the TV episode i added earlier.

Realtime monitor. See here:

Hi, they most certainly do download automatically, but if they're not, then you need to explore the subtitle download settings for each of your Emby libraries. Have you done that?

Hi yes, checked and double checked.

I am just upgrading the RAM in the NAS to 8GB from 2GB. It is in pieces as I type.

Before I shut down, I uninstalled Emby.

I created new and empty shared folders and reinstalled then Emby.

Have given Emby R/W to all the new shares.

Going to create the libraries one at a time and ensure everything that is possible to be ticked for local storage is ticked.

Then going to add files to the shares one at a time to start with.

Hopefully this time it will all be good.

OK up and running.

Movies library created.

One Movie Copied over (just the mp4, nothing else)

Waiting..........

Within 1 minute, in the shared library folder:

srt created

nfo created

bif created

fanart.jpg created

landscape.jpg created

logo.png created

poster.jpg created

:)

Looks like I am good to go but will just add a few at a time to begin with.

What subtitle settings did you explore?

The following options are selected.

Anything else is unticked.

---

Download language: English

Subtitle downloaders: Open Subtitles

Save subtitles into media folders

Same as I had previously.

Does this look OK?

TV Show Library is created too. First episode for one show added.

All looks good for nfo, jpgs and bif.

No subtitle yet but maybe not one available for this show.

This is an mkv (So maybe embedded subtitles but not checked) but also confirmed *skip if the video already contains embedded subtitles* is unchecked.

Will give couple of minutes and ssl in to check metadata in Emby folder.

No subtitles in this location:

/var/packages/EmbyServer/target/var/metadata/library/.....

Just jpg's of cast and crew

File does have embedded subtitles

Open Subtitles has 3 pages of subtitles available for the episode (so guessing about 100).

Maybe just nothing that matches mine exactly but I did uncheck:

*Require a hash match*

Will see how it goes as I add in more.

Subtitles are not being created for any mkv (not in the library folder or in the Emby folder).

This is for mkv movies (of which I only have 30) and all TV episodes (of which I have hundreds).

I am guessing that the mkv all have embedded subtitles but the option to *Skip if the video already contains embedded subtitles* is *not* ticked.

Server is under too much load to start checking them at this moment in Emby but one I checked from a drive mapped to the share does have one embedded subtitle.

I can live with this as I really only use subtitles when i am playing movies late at night and the house demands silence.

Does seem like a bug though?

Did you run the subtitle download scheduled task?

Ah not yet, the initial scan is still ongoing. I think it will be up to another 24 hours or so, maybe......

(not started on music or photo/video folders yet).

The memory upgrade is definitely making this process very much faster though, so I could, hopefully, be out on my estimate.

It seems to have has finished on the movies though.

Appears it has gone through them alphabetically and once it reached *S* it has stopped downloading subtitles.

This is for mp4 and mkv.

Or maybe it is just paused for a while?

I have checked and I see it has downloaded srt for a few mkv files.

On inspection, these mkv do not have embedded subtitle/s.

Also one movie has an ssa, not srt, file.

Never seen one of these before.

Was not aware they were supported.

So for as far as it has gotten so far, it is not downloading subtitles for anything that has got embedded subtitles.

Is this by design for the initial scan?

I will certainly run the scheduled task to see if this picks up subtitles for those with embedded ones.

Hopefully it will.

Hopefully it will also find them for those after *S*, if the initial scan fails to restart.

I will update as soon as the scanning is complete and I have run the scheduled task/s.

Actually there has not been a subtitle created anywhere for nearly 6 hours now.

i will run the scheduled task now........

<edit>Well that was quick. It took all of 5 seconds to complete</edit>

<edit2>86 movies with no subtitle downloaded. not checked how many of these have embedded but the first 2 I checked do not, so looks like the process dies somehow?</edit2>

Initial scan of all libraries complete.

All really good except for the subtitle downloads coming to a grinding halt.

Removed one of the mp4 that a subtitle did not download for.
It does not have an embedded subtitle.
I deleted all other files in library folder associated with the video (nfo, jpg, png, bif)
I did a scan on the media libraries (from the scheduled task).
I copied the video back over to the library folder.
Within a couple of minutes it was available back in the library and all associated files were recreated (nfo, jpg, png, bif).
An srt subtitle file was not added.
I ran the scheduled task *download missing subtitles*.
This completed in 6 seconds.
The srt was not downloaded.

Any ideas?

<edit>

OK, I did not expect to be able to decode the log file myself but I just had a look at the time I hit the rescan for missing subtitles.
It appears the rate limit has been reached (whatever that means exactly, better google and see if I can fix)!

OK used my mates OS account to test and the remaining few have downloaded. Still none for any file that has an embedded subtitle.

Not a problem but would be good to figure it out.

I assume this is not by design?

<edit>

Tested by checking the below (and then running scheduled task).

*Skip if the video already contains embedded subtitles*

No subtitles downloaded (as expected)

Then unchecked it again and ran scheduled task.

No subtitles downloaded (not expected result).

I am happy with this as it is but if you would like me to test further and have suggestions I am willing to do so.

I would certainly wait for the initial scan to finish. For movies make sure your movies have an IMDb id assigned in emby.
