File Renaming & Moving - options

Hi all for many years I have happily been using The Renamer but now it doesn't work with Windows 10 & TTVDB I'm trying to find something that is just good, any got any recommendations?  I would ultimately like something that names and moves the files as The Renamer did.

Giles

What is wrong with the way EMBY renames the files ? … I just simply use robocopy as the file names are good they add the year to movies and TV folders. The only thing I can see that is missing is addiding the year to the TV Show filenames... but as long as they have the year on the TV folder it is fine.

Say what now?  Emby can scan my download folder and move my files and rename them?....... Please point me in the direction of how, many thanks :)

Try the auto organize plugin.

It works great!  Never knew that Plugin existed! Movies don't work so great but I can deal with that!

EDIT: Changed a few settings movies work great!

Thanks for the feedback.

So, wait. How does the plugin know where to place the TV series episodes? I have (5) TV libraries, each unique to an individual user. There is not a defined destination folder in the plugin. It would be helpful to have a destination folder field that can be enabled/disabled with a checkbox.

This is exactly what I've been needing to replace my Sonarr Drone Folder (live TV DVR folder)! I never knew what the plugin was because the description is too vague.

The plugin doesn't automatically create new series, it only adds episodes to existing series. New series have to be done manually.

As I assumed. However, how does it know where that series folder is located?

For existing series? It just finds the first matching one.

Okay, I see what it does now. I had a recording which was picked up by Auto Organize and it successfully moved the file - I see that the default location is the defined location for Recordings. In my use case this is not ideal.

Request: Below the “move” combo box, could you add a file location picker so that we can define WHERE we would like to have the files moved to, please. Maybe I don’t want the files to be moved to the Recordings location...

Is there a way to include the "Quality" within the rename?

For example"

Series Name - S01E04 - Episode Four 1080p.mkv

Series Name - S01E04 - Episode Four 720p.mkv

Also:

10 CLOVERFIELD LANE (2016) 1080p HDRip DD2.0 NL.mkv

Or even:

While We Sleep (1080p) 0.3Gb.mp4

While We Sleep (1080p) 300Mb.mp4

?? I know most renamers out there have resolution ability when renaming but I'd really like to be able to use Emby's plugin instead

And lastly:

Is there any kind of duplicate detector plugin available yet?

Sorry for the late reply to my post but I have been messing around with renamers with no hopes. Been going around and around with FileBot developer for over a month now trying to figure out how to use command line functions with FileBot. Unfortunately the developer can't ever give a direct answer to anyone and has really ruined his reputation and fan base it seems. He just wants you to find your own answers or learn java/groovy yourself. Have wasted so much time with all of this... Long story short, I guess the answer to my question he is "No, not yet" it seems...

I see you can find duplicates with the thread that @@Happy2Play posted but there is still no option to include resolution quality in the renaming without manually doing it yourself with side by side editing to the "report".

However I really do appreciate all your help @@Luke and @@Happy2Play

I have a question that refers to the other thread that I will ask there

I use filebot the free version 4.7.9

Auto organize if I changed the destination it kept the old one and I had lots of problems with it. I’ll revisit it someday perhaps.

Yes, I had A LOT of issues with it. Many users have problems and have tried to get help but the developer just gives them the run around. He used to give direct help to the users when he first released it. Not he just expects users to know code and be able to find out things on their own. I gave up on it, wasted soooo much time with it. If I had renaming files manually I would be done by now :(

I've had my torrent client downloading my favourite episodes via RSS feeds, a post process which copies the files to my NAS, FileBot running on that NAS which renames and sorts the episodes, before finally initiating a library refresh in both Plex and Emby. All automated as well.

This setup has been working for me for 2-3 years now, with only the odd hiccup often due to my carelessness lol.

I dont doubt that at all, I've actually seen many users with similar set ups that have great results and feedback. However much of the issues I have and have seen countless others have is when they are trying to use the filebot scripts on cmd line to rename big libraries. Using GUI Filebot is just too much of a hassle to do an individual file. As files are downloaded via utorrent or other torrent provider, yea, I agree, filebot is great and almost flawless. But what about a user who is trying to get to that point where they are caught up renaming their library where all files are renamed correctly and that they feel comfortable enough to start downloading again with same utorrent with a script...

Not wanting to make this a filebot or bash thread by any means because I know at that point most of my questions may get buried and never answered and others with similair problems wont have an answer here either.

Maybe you would be willing to share your scripts used to get you to the point you are now? Where you are now, comfortably renaming files automatically without panicking and stressing about an already existant library that is screwed up?

Funnily enough, my script is actually available on the FileBot forums.  I was posting about it on there when I was working on it and trying to iron out a few issues.  Just search for the same username as on here.  I have made some minor tweaks to it since then, but it has even survived significant Synology DSM updates which are known to always break something important.

If it helps, I actually went through the process you are describing and so I do understand the concerns people may have.  I will try and summarise my before and after setup, and the process I followed in between:

Initial:

- manual torrent downloads

- TVRenamer for file renaming

- had folders like "/Episodes/Game of Thrones/Season 1" which were created manually

- there were too many files to constantly keep going through the folders and pasting the episodes in the right place once they were downloaded

- ended up having a "/Episodes/NEW" folder where all the new episodes were dumped into and then when a season finished, I manually created the "Season X" folder and pasted them in

Process:

- trying to run a renaming/sorting process on a 10TB+ collection has its obvious risks

- i first used cmd and the tree function to save a text file of the entire folder structure  [ eg. tree c: /f > c:\list.txt ]

- set up my FileBot script as a task on my Synology that runs every 30 minutes

- the source folder was "/EpisodesTEMP" and the destination remained as before ("/Episodes")

- FileBot was set to retain a log of all processing

- each TV show folder (initially one at a time to test the waters) was cut from "/Episodes" and pasted into "/EpisodesTEMP"

- didn't take long to cover all Episodes as well as Films (there is a corresponding "/FilmsTEMP/")

Current:

- the RSS feeds in my uTorrent only cover episodes, but when they start downloading, the torrent is labelled as TV

- a post processing script runs when the download is complete, which extracts any archives there may be and then depending on the label copies them to the corresponding TEMP folder

- the FileBot schedule now runs every 10 mins and just processes any files in the various TEMP folders

- all actions are still logged and it will automatically overwrite older files with newer versions

- if there are any conflicts, it moves the file to another folder which I have alerts on

- slightly more peaceful because I can't remember the last time family asked me to get episodes

Sorry, I may have lied when I said that "I will try and summarise" lol... that was far more than a summary

Hi  @Luke,

is there any way how to request few more simple features and functionalities for the "auto organize plugin"?

It is mostly about some naming features that I am missing TV Shows/Anime and Movies.

Thanks!
