Returning User - Few problems / questions

Hi,

I have been away for a year, but now I am back and giving Emby Theatre another try. I have just installed and subscribed today and I am having a few issues.

Perhaps these are fixable in a setting somewhere that I have missed, or is hidden?

1. Refresh Rate switching only works once. Then I have to exit ET and re-open for it to start working again

2. The ET GUI scales fine but when I start playing back full screen video it is a few pixels too short at the bottom and a few pixels too wide at the left. This results in a blue flickering line at the bottom, which is ET showing as open in the Windows taskbar, just the very bottom of it is visible, but noticeably distracting. And, a line of flickering pixels on the second display to the left.

3. I cannot get display sync active to show as true when bitstreaming audio. Is there an option to bitstream audio and have display sync to be active, as I am getting audio video sync / clock drift, so lips and voices are drifting out of sync as the video plays at 23.976 fps.

Also, what would be the recommended settings for my hardware..

Windows 10 64 bit

Connected via HDMI thru and AVR and then HDMI into a 4K / HDR TV.

Intel i3-3220 CPU

Nvidia 1050 GPU

4GB Ram.

Many thanks!

Well, the bottom line is that you can't bitstream the audio with that option. It works by adjusting the audio to the video. If you aren't using Atmos or DtsX then you can let MPV decode the audio instead of the receiver. It'll be exactly the same.

That's disappointing, I do use Atmos and DTS:X and do want to bitstream. In the mpv.io that you linked to there are other sync options that leave the audio untouched and adjust the video eg display-vdrop. Is there a config file that I can plug into Emby Theatre to get it to do that?

You can probably use the other options in an mpv.conf, but if you use frame dropping or frame copy, you may see some jerkiness. And because you're also using refresh rate switching, I'm not sure how they will interact. But you could test them and let us know how well it works?

And if you want to experiment with an mpv.conf, here's how to make one.

Ha, thanks! That has answered the first part of what I was typing out when you posted that. So now I know how to make an mpv.conf file and where to put it, I just need to know what text to add to it to get Emby Theater to use display-vdrop when 'enable video display syncing' is checked. Any ideas?

Try video-sync=display-vdrop

Doesn't work, unfortunately, it still shows display sync active as being false when bitstreaming. I just literally have this in the mpv.conf file:

video-sync=display-vdrop

Does it need any more code in there?

I can't research it right now, but it may also need audio bitstreaming turned off. If you aren't already, use auto copyback for hardware acceleration.

Okay, thanks. Yes, auto copyback is already on. If it needs bitstreaming switched off, then it is no good for me, as I need bitstreaming turned on. I know the mpv engine is capable of this as Plex Media Player can do it (also mpv). Just need to know if ET can do it, and if so how!

Thanks. I don't think it is working, according to the info that 'stats for nerds' is giving me.

In Plex media Player I can bitstream and have display sync working and the A/V correction is around 0.026, with 0 dropped frames and Measured FPS fluctuating around 0.115 ish. So very marginal changes but just enough to keep everything smooth and in sync.

In Emby Theatre, when I am trying to emulate this setting, the stats are saying that Display sync active is false, and dropped frames are lots and lots and lots, increasing massively every second and up to 5000 after a couple of minutes.

If you do find a solution I would be very interested, but, I don't want you to spend a lot of your time on it and be a nuisance to you, as the other two issues that I have are also deal breakers. So, if all three things are not solvable, then I might not be able to switch back to Emby long term. Which is a shame  :(

Ok so that line is correct, but I can't find a log entry. I think I'd have to increase the verbosity. But adding that second line will tell you if it's active, in the stats. But you won't see all the info that is shown, below. Disable the sync option in the Theater settings.

video-sync=display-vdrop
display-sync-active

Here's what it looks like in the standalone

Luke, this may be a better option to put in the settings.

Stil no good for me  :(

I added the second line, and have tried it with the display sync option both on and off, and restarting ET each time I changed a setting, but I still get many many many dropped frames and display sync active showing as false.

Try setting deinterlacing to no.

Interesting. That changes things. The dropped frames have disappeared, although display sync active till says false. And I need to check for audio / video sync drift over a longer period of time. The problem is that recorded TV files look awful with deinterlacing off.
