Series recording stopped recording new episodes

Hi all,

I have been using the Emby DVR with Schedules Direct listings for a few weeks now.  All has been working well until I found a series I had set to record appears not to be scheduling or recording new episodes.  Is there a log I can check to determine why the new episodes are not recording?  As far as the UI goes, I can see the series recording icon in next weeks listing and the episode is definitely new but here is no icon indicating the episode itself will record, nothing in the Scheduled list and nothing in the Series scheduled list.  The episodes from previous weeks did record correctly.

Hi Luke, thanks for looking at this.  Here are the details:

Show: So You Think You Can Dance

Channel: FoxHD

In the screencap you can see the upcoming episode is not set to record, though it is marked as a series record.  Below shows the series settings:

This weeks episode did not record (July 23rd 7:00 - 8:00 PM), but the previous week did.  The series number and episode numbers appear to be valid (S15, E7-9).  Any idea why they are not recording now?

See those first three settings. I would try loosening up those three filters one at a time until we see which one resolves it. Thanks.

Spaceboy

I’m not sure it’s that simple. A few days ago I had a valid series recording set for emmerdale. I’m not certain exactly what caused the issue, I think it was just trying to view an episode from the guide, but the result was:

The in progress recording was cancelled and stopped recording at that point

All future valid episodes were marked as not to be recorded

I’ve had this happen a few times but I’m afraid at the time I have no time or desire to troubleshoot this, so I have no logs, I just have to fix the problem by cancelling the whole series and rescheduling

If that episode is NOT on disk already then it didn't record correctly.  If it is on disk already then either the GUIDE is messed up (NEW setting) or the episode was name incorrectly previously.

Other than that it should have recorded.

HOWEVER, there is another reason why it might not have recorded and that is simply that there was not an available tuner.

Did you possibly have more items set to record then number of tuners available?

Emby only handles the most basic DVR functions.  It doesn't have any notification of conflicts nor any way to handle conflicts.  It won't reschedule recordings if needed (and possible) nor prompt you to tell it which shows to record or not when there is a conflict.  Neither will it kick a live TV tuner in order to record something setup.  These are all long overdue improvements we need IMHO.

Hey there @@Luke,

Thanks for the advice.  The setting that allowed the recordings to be scheduled was the One Channel setting.  This is strange as the channel is not different (702).  I assumed this filter would only record shows on the channel in the Guide that the series recording was set in.  This was definitely 702.  Also, the previous successfully recorded shows (I did not delete them yet) are also 702, as are the upcoming scheduled episodes.  Any idea what might have happened?

Also, thanks for the comments @@Spaceboy and @@cayars.  I do remember trying to view one of the episodes while it was recording and the client froze.  Not sure it was the week the recordings got removed from the schedule or not however.  I also do not think the episode stopped recording.  Last week's episode did not record and is not on disk.  Next week's episode is now showing on the schedule after setting the series filter to All Channels.

Hi Luke,

I ended up having to delete and reschedule the series.  You can see from the last screengrab I took that the series was meant to record channel 702 (HD).  The next time it recorded it did the SD channel and then all the scheduled recordings were all set to the SD channel.  Any further ideas on what might have caused this?  I have one possible factor.  I use WMC at the moment and it is scheduled to record the same show.  Perhaps this caused a conflict?  However, while this could be a cause, the previous weeks shows recorded without an error while WMC was also set to record as well.

Well once you set to all channels it will record on all. Redoing the series was probably a good thing to do. Thanks.
