I have a Logitech remote and I just use it in media center mode. It works well for everything except for the context display. There is no * button and 'info' doesn't seem to be working yet. I think the guys were planning on fixing that though.

Can't you add the star to the software buttons. That's what I've done with my Harmony One.

Yeah you can, I might do that in the meantime. Although my wife probably wouldn't be able to figure out which button it is. It would be nice to use the 'info' or 'i' button. Was there restrictions on that?

When setting up your Harmony ensure you choose the "Media Center SE" profile.

 

Includes lots of keyboard commands that you can map to the various Harmony buttons or the LCD.

I wrote something up some time ago of how I setup my Logitech Harmony One.  I'll see if I can dig it up.  Ok, here it is, hope it helps: 

As you can see I added the * as well to bring up info and audio/subtitle.  See below and you can see how I added this to the touch screen.

 

Ok here's some instructions on how I set up my Harmony One remote to work with media browser on a Windows 7 machine:

 

1. With the Harmony software you first tell it what devices you have in your setup, set the delays needed to turn everything on, then create activites that appear on the front lcd display such as “watch my movies”. When you do this you setup commands from the remote to turn on all your gear and get you into Media Browser.
2. When you setup your htpc as a device choose: Device type: Computer –> Media Center PC –> Manufacturer: Microsoft –> Model: Windows Media Center SE (doing this gives you more options than if you just pick Dell etc as your manufacturer)
3. I then selected to “add an activity – watch my movies” and chose to “manually add an activity”. Doing this you can make sure everything turns on to your liking, tv, receiver, etc.
4. Now to the important part for media browser. With the Harmony you can add hotkeys to launch Media Browser from the quicklaunch taskbar. You do this by dropping the Media Browser shortcut icon into your taskbar to the right of your start button. I then moved it so its all the way to the left (just to the right of the start button). Doing this means Media Browser will launch when win+1 is pressed. You add this command in the Harmony One Software. You can also set hotkeys with win+2 etc to launch whatever program or even browser bookmarks you want from the Harmony remote.

That’s it. You can also customize your buttons to switch subtitles and audio tracks which is good if you have files where your language isn’t the default track. I also dropped my foobar into the taskbar next to the Media Browser and created a music activity with all the same steps then add “win+2” as the last step.

Here's some screenshots:

Once you add an activity go to "Customize Buttons"  Here you can assign commands to all your buttons.  Here's mine:

 

I assigned the following by clicking on "Additional Buttons" Note the hotkeys to open Media Browser win+5 meaning MBT is the 5th icon over in the taskbar from the start menu.  Also note I added a sequence so when clicking on "exit all" it will close MBT, foobar, media center etc.  Also note the "audio/subtitle" with the * assigned.  This will bring up the audio and subtitle options with MBT.

 

Here's the sequence I set up for "Exit All"

 

And finally a shot of the Harmony One remote screen for my Movies/TV activity.  In this case I can launch MBC or MBT as I have both on the touch screen.  I named MBC as "MB3" and MBT as "Movie Theater".  Also see the button labeled "Audio Subtitle", this brings up MBT's options to change audio/subtitle:

This is an awseome thread, with the info in this thread I no longer need my keyboard to operate EMBY Threatre.

 

I have one question and it may be EMBY Threatre rather than a remote code but hopefully not.

 

When you have a large list of movies or Series how do you page down and up rather than singe stepping the list.

I have an Intel NUC as my HTPC running EMBY server and Theatre. It has a built in IR receiver.

 

You can buy a USB receiver if you google it.

There's nothing worse than breaking the HTPC/Remote so that the wife needs to use the keyboard, so if anyone has tried these commands on the new version and potentially save me some headaches I'd greatly appreciate it.

Did you get it to work?  It seems after the another round of updates, my arrow keys work, the pause and play button work, but my back button doesn't always work.  Sometimes it works to go back, but it loses focus on the "icon" and then I cannot use the arrow keys to move around anymore.  This is usually after I have played a video.  I have to exit the app and then launch it again.

Got it to work, except for the thing you mention with going back. The only thing left working is the back button.

I just looked at the price of the Harmony One, 299, yikes. I did see the 650. Anyone using the 650 and able to do ALL that is needed? I guess the better question, does the 650 have the same layout as the One?

As I understand it the 650 will give you the Harmony One functions without touch screen. The layout is almost identical.

 

The One is a great remote. It only really has one problem: You have to hold it in view of your devices during the entire start and stop cycles, which can run 10-15 seconds. This is not a problem for me personally, but family members often forget, and then one device is out of sequence, and you get an angry phonecall... But I digress.

 

Having said that, I happily used the One for years. It may cost a lot but it is worth every penny.

 

I upgraded to the Harmony Ultimate because of the hub and repeaters. Even if the remote is not in view of the devices the repeaters and the hub will send the commands out. So my kids can just tap on their desired activity and all is well with the world. The ability to program and update on the fly is also much improved, meaning you spend much less time fiddling. You also get the smartphone app which is great.

 

The Ultimate has a crap layout above the screen however, a definite step down from the one. The Elite fixes this issue but I haven't taken the plunge yet.

I use a 650. Had to do some trick to map mediacentre soft button to start emby, but after that its basically all up down left right ok play pause back, which all work fine.

What I *really* want is a 650 type device that works over wifi instead of IR since all my devices are network enabled (amp, tv, pc, FetchTV) but that doesn't seem to exist (the ultimate converts wifi back to IR for actual device control).

I can achieve the goal through 4 different apps on my phone and presumably there's a way to combine that.....but the phone is rubbish controller.....I've digressed...sorry.

TLDR...650 is fine

Anyone have new instructions with the latest version of the Harmony software?  I can't find how to add new key sequences like CTRL H to get back to the home screen since it is not already in the menu.

I use the "u-turn" key set to "back" on the HTPC. I don't know how you would add sequences that are not already listed.

You're right. My point was that we are moving towards pure WiFI capability. We're not there yet.

 

I agree that the phone is crap as a blind controller. I mostly use it as a backup if I've forgotten to charge the remote, or to turn the system on from another room.

 

There's no need to run the IR senders to each device. Remote and base station both transmit the IR commands. The extenders do improve things, especially if your stuff is in a cabinet or something.
