noremacyug 3
I'm going to migrate my server to my windows box. Been running it on a Mac mini and have it setup to remux my MKVs to MP4 automatically via a script in Sabnzbd. Just wondering what solutions people are using on their windows machines to achieve the same results. I'll set the script up on my windows box if nothing else.....just never hurts to search out a better/easier solution.
jordy 284
Don't know anything about Macs but MKVs play fine on Windows machines. I save all movies to that format and no probs...
noremacyug 3
I want MP4 for video scrubbing thumbnails on my ATV4.
Luke 37060
You can do this directly in Emby Server using the folder sync plugin; https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Wiki/wiki/Folder%20Sync
branma 0
If you want to convert MKV to MP4, the command line tool FFmpeg should be your choice. It can run under Windows and Linux.
Macburp 109
For a gui-based programme, try MKVtoMP4, available at videohelp.com. I've had good results with that, although I now use ffmpeg in a script.
noremacyug 3
Yeah. Figured ffmpeg via script will be the way I go, just thought I'd check. Thanks for the suggestion Luke, but I don't think that will do what I'm wanting.

Thanks for the suggestion Luke, but I don't think that will do what I'm wanting. Actually it will. You can use the emby web interface to queue up conversions. You just select the baseline profile and that will give you mp4 versions of whatever media you feed into it.
noremacyug 3
Can this be fully automated to convert (remux preferably), delete the source MKV and then update the library?
noremacyug 3
Got the sickbeard_mp4_automator script setup last night. For the most part it seems to be doing its job fine. But every 20th or so file it will hang during the transcode of a small 300MB .avi. Anyone one else running this ever experience that. I'll reboot the pc and it will skip the file it was hung on and pick back up with the next queued file. noremacyug 3
from the best i can tell the ffmpeg.exe would just hang. it was showing little to no cpu usage and after ending that task the file it was working on would go ahead and fail and the next one queued up would start. the only thing i've thought to do was re-download the ffmpeg binaries and copied them over the current ones. testing to see if it stalls anymore. i know there are people here with ffmpeg knowledge..... thought someone might be able to shed some light in the event it continues to annoy me. this method worked flawlessly on my mac mini. noremacyug 3
After more observation it appears that the stalling issue only arises when transcoding occurs (in my case avi to MP4). Remuxing seems to be working fine thus far. Anyone have any suggestions on the transcoding issue?
Luke 37060
Hi, before we can dive into that, please provide information about an example by following how to report a media playback issue. Thanks!
noremacyug 3
this isn't a prob with emby, Luke, but rather the sickbeard_mp4_automator script i'm running. i'm not really sure how to provide anything for you to observe as i don't think that ffmpeg is outputting any logs during the transcode. i just thought i might stumble upon someone with ffmpeg knowledge that might be able to figure out why it hangs on occasion during transcode. chef 3745
Has anyone mentioned "Handbrake" as a conversion option here.
noremacyug 3
Don't think handbrake can be automated like I'm wanting and currently have setup.
