XBOX One - Skip chapters

Thought I'd ask in here as I cannot find if this is available in the Xbox One Media app or not.

Can you skip chapters when using the Xbox One media app via DLNA?
Using a standard Xbox One controller, don't have the media remote.

I know using Emby for WMC you have to either skip chapters or, for example, you can type '30' on the remote then hit 'Play' to go to minute 30 on the time line. As FWD & RWD do not function very well.

I'm trying to find similar function for the Xbox media app.

Is there a button press on the controller to skip chapters?

Not sure if this will work, but depending on the container of the media (mkv would be a good test) you can add chapters to it.

Maybe test and see if by do that, pressing the directional arrows on the d-pad will skip the internal chapters instead of by minutes.

Do you have mkvmerge GUI on your computer?

Hi @@chef thanks for the reply.

I have some films that already have chapters in them. But my son says that he is unable to find which button presses will skip forward.

I thought that there may be a help page or a web link to show which buttons control which function when viewing media.

I will find a film that I know has chapters (most films are already MKV's but unsure as to which do have chapters) & I will test it myself.

Will report back when I've tried it.

I've tried with an mkv that has chapters embedded into the file and with an mkv that has chapters created by Emby if viewed via the web gui.

Unfortunately nothing seems to work for either type of file.

Pressing Left or Right on the D-pad skips files completely, ie will play the next or preceding movie.

Similarly using Left or Right on the left stick produces the same result.

I did try pressing R2 & L2 to for FWD & RWD but this just made it hang.

The right stick doesn't seem to do anything, so it doesn't seem possible.

Will just have to tell my boy to Pause & make sure he un-pauses with care next time.

As he paused a movie the other night after about 50 mins, then must have pressed 'B' to go back and couldn't then get back to his place in the movie.

Lesson learned  ;)

Good to know. Have you tested out emby theatre on Xbox one yet?

Luke mentioned it in the above post.

If you open the edge browser and type: tv.emby.media

It will direct you to a version of emby theatre you can use in Xbox one.

There you will find chapters and a really nice UI to watch your media.

As an Xbox one user, I use mostly emby.media.tv in my Xbox one, or I use my tablet to send play commands to Xbox one.

The media player is kind of lacking. The emby team have done the best they can there by adding watched status check marks, but unfortunately the media player is the last place I go to watch or listen to media in my collection.

:)

Sorry if there was any confusion, I did say in the first post 'Xbox One Media app'.

I haven't tried Emby Theatre yet. I don't currently have a Premiere subscription.

I have been contemplating purchasing one, but funds are too tight to justify it currently. Hopefully this will change soon.

Until then I'm stuck with DLNA. No matter, Emby server does a great job of transcoding to the XBOX One via DLNA so that's a massive postitive, as prior to this it was a 360 as a WMC extender, which had its own issues!

Thanks for the taking the time to reply. I'll have to wait to try ET once I can afford Premiere
