The setting was renamed to Movies are in separate folders that matches the movie title. The default behavior for the setting is that it's not enabled. With the setting enabled, it will look at movie.nfo first (since they are individual folders), otherwise with the setting disabled, it will expect for the nfo to match the movie's name (one big clumped folder with all movies at the same level).

So it seems, if Emby finds the movies in their individual folders, you'd want to use movie.nfo above all else.

This is a user setting which is enabled at the time they add their source/library to Kodi.

When you export nfos from Kodi - it will write moviename.nfo regardless of the setting for the source.

Kodi doesn't look at movie.nfo unless told to - only with the setting enable will it take into account movie.nfo (unless it's the only nfo in there). I guess what the user is asking for is a way to tell Emby to take into account movie.nfo above anything else if told to.

So to answer your question - Kodi doesn't default to movie.nfo without user intervention - meaning without the user enabling the setting at the time they add the source.

No, one nfo should suffice. Note this is only applicable for movies.

I'd say if the movies are in a flat structure - then using moviename.nfo is a must.

If movies are in their own folders - then an option in the Kodi nfo section should be implemented, where the user can enable using movie.nfo rather than moviename.nfo. Based on the setting, then Emby will know what to do (either write to movie.nfo or moviename.nfo).

I'd leave moviename.nfo as default, because that's really what Kodi expects without user intervention. Personally, I've never used movie.nfo,
