Questions about multiple tuners and streaming

I have Emby Server (version 3.0.6070) working as a "plugin" on my FreeNAS. I have two SiliconeDust HDHomeRun EXTEND devices and one CONNECT. Unfortunately, Emby does not appear to deal with more than one stream at a time. If I wish to record or stream multiple streams, do I need to create additional servers? I've tried to create an additional server but I'm having issues with getting my Premiere key accepted on second server.

You certainly do not need a second server setup to record multiple channels simultaneously.  As long as each tuner shows up under Tuner Devices and you have your guide credentials set then Emby should pool all your tuners together.

In your Live TV settings - below Guide Providers do you see a list of tuners?  If so, it should show each tuner name and its current status.  When you start recording a show the status should change to 'watching' (from 'available').

Hi, just wondering why you think this? Emby can handle multiple tuners just fine. It will pool them all together into one single guide and when somebody plays something, it will use whatever is available.

This makes me wonder about something.

The HDHomeRun Extended has a built in H.264 encoder.  The Connect does not.  Can Emby tell the difference between the two?

I ask because I am considering buying an Extended and I already have a Connect.  I wouldn't want Emby to re-encode a video already encoded by the extended or to not encode a video recorded by the connect.  I've used Myth in the past and Myth has the ability to prioritize channels, tuners and shows.  Rules could be set up to make it more likely that certain situations are favored.  For instance: all HD channels could be recorded with the Extended and all Standard Def channels recorded with the connect.  But it can get very complicated.

I wonder if there could be a button added to favor one tuner over another for a particular channel or show.

Oh that is sweet.  Does Emby favor offloading the work over transcoding the video it's self?

I've noticed that you have Emby make a lot of decisions for the user.  I guess that helps keep people from making so many changes that they screw up their system.   But for me, I like having a bunch of buttons to click because it helps me learn the software.  Is there a detailed Wiki project in the works?

I'm used to using software written by several contributes.  Being that you are the only programmer I figure your dance card is full.  Is there anyone out there who knows the software well enough to start a Wiki?

I'll check that out.  I have some questions about how the transcoding and auto moving work.  I like that Emby is very accurate in looking up the shows that it records but I'd also like to automatically remove commercials.  I've tried to use MCEBuddy but Emby and MCEBuddy fight over the files.  I'll take another look at the Wiki.

Here's a question. I can't seem to find the exact answer to this. I presently have an HDHR Prime (works perfectly), but I was considering adding more tuners. I could buy another one, but was thinking about getting a Ceton internal card. I understand that Emby doesn't natively support them, and I will need to use a plugin. But what I'm not clear on, is how the recording works. With my present recording schedules set up, if I add a Ceton card, will those tuners be automatically used or will I have to have an alternate schedule set up in the plugin? I'd like to be able put the Ceton in (and do the necessary emby configurations) then just continue as I've always done. Will the plugin record in its own way, separate to the HDHR recordings?

I need to ask a question after reading this thread because it is stated above that Emby Live TV will pool multiple tuners into one guide and pick what tuner is available when recording. Are you saying this for the 3 tuners within the one device or multiple devices as well?

If it is supposed to pool multiple devices then I need to figure out what I am doing wrong. I read the Wiki and it doesn't say anything about how to achieve this.

My situation is this: I have two devices, a Prime and an Extend unit. The Prime is pulling in my cable channels and the Extend is connected to the cable but only pulling in the Qam channels (just the locals)

I set up Schedules Direct to pull in the guide data and enabled this for "All Tuners" in the set up section. The guide then refreshed. I looked it up in the Library and it shows the guide data for the Prime channels but not the Extend channels. I then went back and mapped the Extend channels to the equivalent channels for the Prime unit. This did result in the guide data being populated for the Extend channels listed in the EPG guide but I was hoping those channels would disappear and be "merged" with the Prime channels.

What I am trying to accomplish is there to not be any duplicated channels listed in the guide. Then when a recording is about to happen Emby will decide what device to use.

So, is what I am trying to accomplish possible with two different devices or do they have to be two of the same type of devices (example, 2 Prime units, or 2 extends)?

Currently it will only work if the guide numbers are exactly the same, and right now there is no manual override.

Thanks. So it would work with 2 of the same type of device then? That must be the part of this I was missing.

Do you think at some point we could be able to modify the channel numbers/names as they are pulled in so we could make both match on different devices?
