Roku3 & Emby Connect, server not listed

Hopefully someone can help me out here.  About a month ago, Emby on my Roku no longer remembers my server info, does not list my server in the list, and I have to manually enter the server info every time I load the app.  I have removed the app and reinstalled several times, and have also authenticated with Connect several times.  Each time I generate the pin and enter it on emby.media, the connection goes through and Emby loads.  However, the next time I load the app I am forced to enter the server manually again.  Similarly, the user I pick is never saved even though I have the option to keep the user logged in set.  The latter I believe I have found a potential fix for on these forums and will try it this weekend.  The former, however, is not something I've read about, and is almost a deal breaker (since the Roku is not accessible to me for weeks at a time, and walking my inlaws through manual server entry is not fun).  Thanks for any ideas.

Have you tried this app? It is a fork of the official roku app with many more features.

https://my.roku.com/account/add?channel=EmbyBlueNeon

This is the direct link to the app. It is a private app to avoid confusion with the official app. This app has more dialogs and checks in place which should let you troubleshoot what is wrong.

I have not due to my limited access to the Roku.  However, I will be able to get to it this weekend, so perhaps I'll give Blue Neon a go and report back.  Thanks

Are you running the server at your house, and your parents connect remotely to it with their roku? If so, you need to make sure you forward port 8096 on your router to the server ip emby runs on. This must be done to support remote users. The roku does not support https/ssl at this time so no need to forward port 8920 too.

Yeah, server at my house, Roku is remote.  Everything is set up correctly, and works everywhere.  The Roku works, mind you, I just have to continuously add the server manually, despite the fact that Connect can reach it (indicated by the fact that the pin I've used to register the past few times is validated and Emby starts on the Roku).  The issue here is not connectivity, per se, but the fact that the Roku does not list my server in the list of servers registered with Connect.  I can, for example, see my server on every other device I've tried outside my home network via Connect, whether web or app.  It's just this one Roku box that's giving me an issue... and it was working for a couple months before this started.  I'll have some time to mess with it this weekend.  If I figure it out, I'll report back.

When you close the app how are you doing that? Are you just exiting or are you using the signout button?

In that case, the blue neon app could bring remedy. Ive tested both emby connect and manual entry in the app and they work both remotely and locally. If the blue neon app throws a dialog error, pressing the OK button of the dialog will make the app try again, using the back button on the remote will stop trying. Hopefully this makes it easier to solve the problem.

I've tried both to no avail.

Good catch, yeah. Luke is right. Do not use the "sign out" unless you want to sign back in. Use the home button on the remote, or keep pressing back on the remote until the app confirms you want to exit.

Well if you signout this is expected behavior. After all, you're signing out which means your user credentials will not be there next time. So what you probably want to do is just turn the tv off instead.

I'll play more with it this weekend.  One other interesting piece of info that I just remembered... this all started happening immediately after I upgraded the router the Roku connects to wirelessly.  Does the app require any specific settings on the router that might not be set out of the box?  I literally just plugged it in and set up WPA2.  At first I thought this might be a upnp issue so I made sure it was enabled, but it didn't help.  And the old router definitely didn't have any kind of port forwarding set up.  Lemme know.  Thanks

But even if I sign back in, my server is not available to select from the list... I have to enter it in manually each time.  Check the post right above this one regarding potential router settings?  Thanks

After you enter it manually and the server connects, you choose a user. After this the app works. What you need to do at this point is choose the "select server" button. This screen that comes up, should list your server you just added. If it does, all is good. Choose the server, pick their user, and enter the app. As soon as the app opens the homescreen, choose sign out. You should be presented with the server select screen, or the choose user dialog. Either way it should already list your server, or the users. Select them again and reenter the app. Now with the app at the homescreen, press the home button of your remote. Then restart the emby app. It should remember now.

Keep in mind, when using emby connect, you should never use sign out. Only use sign out when manually entering the server ip. With emby connect you need to use select server instead of sign out.
