Blocking Box Set Collections

I don't know if I am missing something or not, but I have looked all through emby.  And in the forums only came open with open ended conversations...  Is there a way  to block Box Set Collections from a profile.  I do not want it showing up in my daughters profile, I already have a children's movie section and some of the movies are already grouped there for her needs... Alladin, Cinderella, etc...  I don't want to depend on ratings because some still may not be appropriate.

I have my nieces movies and tv shows in a completely separate folder and then create a separate library for kids movies and one for kids tv. This way she only sees box sets from that library, whereas for me Emby merges both movies libraries together so it's all pooled.

You know how to add libraries? Well add a new one, just for kids movies or kids tv and point it at the folder that just contains kids movies or kids tv

Then in the users settings turn off any libraries you don't want them to have access to. So kids accounts would only have access to the kids movies and kids tv shows libraries whereas adults would have access to all. Emby will show all movies to adults in one location and kids can only ever see the items within their libraries

This works, but the only issue unless you are running parental controls is all Emby Collections are still visible but their movie items aren't.  (This is where nested collection have an advantage since they reside in libraries.)

Give the Collections themselves a rating and then they will obey parental controls as well.

Also, we have a special "Custom Rating" field so that you can set your own value for the purposes of parental control if you don't agree with the official value.

ebr... can you not just remove collections like any other library that you dont want someone to have access to?  I dont want to have to go through give all my collections "Custom Ratings".  Collections should be like everything else... you don't want them to have TV Shows... you uncheck TV shows and etc...  To me that would make more sense...I cant even remove it in WMC

I thought you wanted to just hide particular ones.

If you wan to hide the whole top level item, then click "Edit Info" on that library tile and give it a rating beyond what your daughter will see.

So in other words we cant just remove Collections like we can everything else...?

Doesn't my proposed solution do that?

Correct, collections are not a library in the aspect of access restriction.

ebr... wouldn't collections still show in the menu, but with either nothing in it or a blank menu?

Luke... not actually removed... just not visible to certain users

There is an open issue with that with Collections. It will be reviewed for a future release of Emby Server.

I'm not sure I understand? I see all my movie collections, my niece can see the 5 made up by the movies I have put in her folder. No empty folders

Are you saying your regular movies collection doesn't carry over to the kids movies collection without parental controls?

Happy2Play... What I would like is either to have the ability to remove Collections completely from my daughters profile or create a Collections choosing only the folders that I would want a collections created from.  Some of the art work that is automatically chosen for some movies I don't find right for a child nor do I always agree with the ratings and have to many movies to customize.

What it sounds like is you shouldnt be using collections on her profile then. There are two places you have to make sure are unchecked.

Log in as her on the server dashboard, and click her user icon on the top right. Choose display settings.

Then in home screen settings

This should remove the problems collections create for small children.

Who is this being designed for? Is it too difficult to keep it like it was?

This is.. *erm* why I am several versions behind. Lately the more up to date you are, the less features and options are available. This is concerning isnt it? I mean, not to be that guy that calls out other people when they make bad decisions. But..

What is emby doing lately? I am curious. Is it just, our way, or the highway!! Can we get a little bit of compromise? Think about the children. The children. OMG the children. Honestly though, kids dont need to see saw collection, or nightmare on elm street, or anything with aliens killing..

Kids are highly impressionable. They have bad dreams. They are easily frightened. I said this before. To change this and break it, is sort of irresponsible and negligent. Next will be the porn and adult videos erroneously shown to childrens accounts too? I know I am exaggerating, but it is showing a propensity of carelessness. Please try to be more careful in the future, emby. Try to think about the children. ;)

There is one solution using the discussed library method and making those libraries "folder view" in her config.xml.  A little work for you manually editing her config.xml to make her libraries folder view so all the "enhanced" options are not available.  The only issue with this folder view method is all collections are listed first.

Ensure her access is set in users, navigate to the libraries she will have access to and note there parentids from their urls.  Shut down the server, you need to find her user (guid) folder "\Emby-Server\config\users\guid" and edit her config.xml, copying the library id from orderviews to plainfolderview.

Example config.xml with two libraries  Kids Movies and Kids TV
