Music fixes & improvements

1. I would like the ability to Like/Dislike music, for a Pandora type of effect.

  - There really should be a Thumbs Up/Thumbs Down button on the Now Playing bar

2. Please provide a filter to hide disliked music

3. My users would like to be able to quickly add music to a Playlist from the bottom bar
  - It seem that you cannot currently do this from the Now Playing view
  - What's the point of the Controls view? It's completely unnecessary from what I can tell.

4. My users would like to be able to look at Artists of only a specific Genre.
  - Going to "Artists" section and using filter for specific genre does not work. (It works in "Albums"  & "Songs" sections, however.)
  - Going to "Genres" section and selecting a specific genre doesn't allow you to look at an Artists view. Only the Albums view.

Confirmed fixed in latest dev build.

Thanks. The genre filter has been resolved for the next release.

Expand into what playlist view? You can add content to playlists from almost every single screen in the application. You don't have to move to any separate playlist view.

Great!

So, it'd be nice to see a Thumbs Up/Thumbs Down/Add to Playlist button in the bottom bar here:

Instead, you must click on the Playlist button in the bottom-right:

And then right-click the song > Add to Playlist:

(Also, notice how the currently-playing song is second on the list. So, if I've already listened to 100 songs, it gets hard to go the the Playlist View and locate the song I would like to Add to Playlist.)

Well, no, add to playlist adds to a saved playlist. To queue into the now playing playlist, you use the queue options in the menu.

So then your assessment is not correct here because if you want to add to a saved playlist you don't do anything with the now playing bar. it's completely separate. you just use the functions in the UI.

Well, I still stand by that it can use Thumbs Up/Down at least.

Other than than, I don't see why it needs to be completely separate, and used ONLY for the Now Playing playlist.

More features/enhancements would  certainly be welcomed!

The most recent iteration of the Now Playing list seems to lack several functions that were previously available. In particular, I can find no way to actually see the list itself. It seems that the bottom "strip", quite literally, shows what is "now playing". Fun, but not terribly helpful. I always enjoyed being able to "look ahead" in a shuffled list, and exercize some on-the-fly choices. I also liked having playlists being ordered (even if it is in the order items were added), and being able to shuffle the Now Playing list, rather than the named playlists having to be shuffled, especially since there seems to be no way to "unshuffled a playlist. Now I have to stop the current track, and wait until the next one starts to even find out what will be played. Seems like we gave up something important there.

I have to say, I very much like the "strip" itself, but would love to have a "..." available that included at a minimum "Shuffle (remaining items in list)", and "Show as list", this latter would benefit from starting at the currently playing song, and hopefully having a visual cue that this is indeed the currently playing song.

Just my 2 cents..........

Well, as usual, the previous post was almost right. Sigh. Too many servers, and apps I guess.

On Beta server .129, and on the DEV release 3.1.6086.13780, using the web app, the Now Playing has become the strip, as described above.

Accessed via Emby Theatre 2.5.15, Now Playing is accessed via the "musical note" symbol, and has both Shuffle and "View as list" available, apparently regardless of server level. This is the "old" view of Now Playing.

The latest version of the 7Illusions app uses the "strip at the bottom" approach, just like the Beta and Dev web apps. In addition, the 7Illusions does have a "shuffle" option on the strip, but no way to view the outcome of shuffling. It remains a (possibly) delightful surprise.

My suggestions above stand as typed :-)

Well nearly ... I finally realized the symbol at the right (horizontal lines with a musical note) does what I was asking for, approximately. At least now I know there is a way to retain the functionality, albeit at the cost of a few more button presses. I hesitate to think how I'll explain it the spouse, but maybe that's a good thing!

Overall, from a personal preference, I find the 7Illusions interface "cleaner", and a bit more obvious, especially if they would add the one extra button to show the list view.

And yes, thanx for your patience in not just jumping all over my comments, but leaving me to quietly have a conversation with myself :-)

You got me curious, TimTiddler. Going to try the latest dev build to see if there's anything new. Thanks for the good input :)

I think there is definitely a consensus that some manner of a context menu with more advanced playback/playlist options for the Now Playing bar is desired. Excited for what you guys have in-store, Luke!

Still haven't tried the 7Illusions interface yet, but I'm running the latest dev build and I am seeing that the genre filtering bug is fixed. Very happy about that. But beyond that I am not seeing any other improvement yet.

I did see in release notes email that they were going to add a Thumbs Up/Down button..haven't seen that yet.
