Is recording currently supported when using an m3u playlist as a Live TV provider? I'm seeing that Emby attempts to open the stream and record, however after less than a second it decides that the recording is complete. I also see the .ts stream file created with the proper folder structure.. however the file is only 715bytes. The recording was scheduled for 11:30PM last night so you'll have to scroll through the log file quite a bit, didn't want to omit anything. (I also tried one mid-episode around 11:20PM – however I don't see any files created for that recording).

It appears to have completed normally. If you put that same m3u url that's being recorded into a video player such as Vlc, what happens?

I am unable to view my m3u channel list (http://localhost:8899/channels-1.m3u) or an actual channel (ex: http://localhost:8899/live.m3u?tmp=1&portal=1&channel=ffrt2+http%3A%2F%2Flocalhost%2Fch%2F493). However, I am able to browse the guide and watch TV normally.

 

Edit – After restarting VLC, viewing a normal channel worked fine using http://localhost:8899/live.m3u?tmp=1&portal=1&channel=ffrt2+http%3A%2F%2Flocalhost%2Fch%2F493. Is there a timeout or something associtaed with starting a recording? I noticed that some of my streams can take 5-10 seconds to start up.

I was wondering this as well. I wanted to set a recording timer for a program on tomorrow afternoon but can't find a way to do that. Am I only able to record specific shows? My m3u playlist does not have guide data but I know the channel and time my program is on. Do I have to pay schedules direct just to set a recording time or can I set a specific channel and time to record?

At the moment the recording features are associated with guide entries. As a workaround you could just dummy up some xml tv data. We may expand on this in the future to just record by time.

So you're able to watch within Emby or Vlc?

Thanks for the info. I spent my entire day today trying to create a fake xml file that would load, then trying to install ubuntu on an older pc to get tvheadend or mythtv on it which would both allow what I was trying, and ran into issues with absolutely everything I tried and ended up wasting about 7 hours, so I think I'll just twiddle my thumbs and hope recording by time comes to emby sooner rather than later from here on out. Thanks again for letting me know

Sorry missed the notification for this thread.. I'm able to watch the channel in both VLC and Emby, the record function just seems like it isn't able to open the stream, or at least it times out.

Im having exactly the same issue - goes through the recording process but the saved files are only a few bytes in size

ive restarted the server and tried again - judging by the log its finishing the recording as soon as its started :-

Hi this may sound silly , but I am aware that you can record local ota live tv using a dvr like HDhome run. Is it the same process if you want to record iptv?

Thanks for this , so currently i run emby on laptop as server and have a few different android devices. Moving into a new house so the plan would be to have emby running on nas box , dvr and emby premiere for each of my android devices. I have heard that mag boxes are the best for iptv which I was also considering buying , is it possible to connect or record on your mag box to emby

No, just create an M3U tuner in Emby using the information provided by your IPTV provider.
