A couple of issues with scanned shows and watched shows

So I have a couple of problems.

The first problem is very easy to explain. Sometimes emby forgets what shows I've watched and other times it marks a newly added show as marked despite it never have been watched.

The second problem isn't so easy to explain. Correctly identified shows have episodes that are being identified as entirely different series. To be more specific, any series beginning with the letter D have episodes being scanned in as "Initial D" (with the exception of where the show episodes than initial D, than any episode numbering greater than Initial D is being scanned in correctly). If I look in "Initial D" on the server than I find the "Initial D" seasons AND every other series beginning with D.

This problem isn't exclusive to "Initial D" either. It's also happening with "C - The Money of Soul and Possibility Control" but instead with the letter C. You might think the problem has to do with series with a single letter in them but it is not happening with "Level E" or "Special A". As far as I know, the two shows I mentioned are the only two doing it but I might just not have noticed others.

The way my directories are set up are as follows:

-C

----Claymore (2007)

-------Season 0

-------Season 1

----------Claymore.s01e01.mkv

-D

----Danshi Koukeisei no Nichijou (2012)

-------Season 0

-------Season 1

----------Danshi Koukeisei no Nichijou.s01e01.mkv

etc.

My Library in emby is set up with the 27 main directories (#, A-Z) with all my shows in it. Absolutely everything inside is named correctly and of the right type (TV Show) and everything has been correctly identified as I'm pretty anal about keeping things correct.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated as I really like EMBY but these issues are enough to make me use something else.

Thanks

Does any other program touch or create your nfo files?  Is "Sync user watch data to nfo's for:" set to a specific user (Dashboard-Metadata-NFO Settings)?

Are you saying you added all 27 folders as individual libraries as content type TV?

As far as I know, nothing is touching any nfo file except emby. I do use the emby plugin for Kodi but I don't believe that touches nfo files directly. Other than that I have nothing else that could.

As for the library, instead of explaining I just took a screenshot:

As you can see it's just a single library with a bunch of directories in it (ignore that the folder names have Plex in it, I used to use plex but have long since gotten rid of it, that is just a hold over from those days).

I also took a screenshot of one of the shows I mentioned, "C - The Money of Soul and Possibility Control". In the picture you can see in the seasons that it has "Season 1", then a season with it's own name and the a couple of seasons with different show names (plus many more but they've been cropped out).

I was also initially going to take a screenshot within one of the shows that the episodes are being incorrectly identified in but that's pointless unless you know the shows.

If I click on "Campione" within the season list show above, then it will play the theme music from "Campione!" but have no episodes or anything of use. "Campione!" does have an entry in the shows library that contains all the correct data except the episodes ALL have information as if it were "C - The Money of Soul and Possibility Control"

From that screenshot to me it looks like a folder nesting issue.   Are all series are in there own folders or are they grouped anyway?

-C

----Claymore (2007)

-------Season 1

----------Claymore.s01e01.mkv

----Campione!

-------Season 1

All shows are in the own folder. Like you are demonstrating, in "c" has a folder for every individual show. In each individual show it has a folder for each season. In it's season it has all the episodes named as "show name.sXXeXX.mkv".

Everything is done in accordance with the "Complex Folder Structure" found on the wiki ( https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Wiki/wiki/TV%20naming

I've also checked to make sure the shows affected are correctly set up, which they all are.

So I've just done an experiment. I completely removed my "C" directory from my library. Deleted all nfo's and thumbnail pictures. Then ran the "Clean Database" and rescanned the library. Then restarted the server and added back in my "C" directory.

Instantly all episodes were given the metadata as if they were "C - The Money of Soul and Possibility Control". This happened well before the shows had a chance to be identified by the server.

So I did the whole removal process again but this time before readding the "C" directory into the library, I removed the show "C - The Money of Soul and Possibility Control" from the directory and then added "C".

This time all shows and episodes are being correctly identified and everything is running as expected (well minus one series being shown as having been seen when the server should have no knowledge of that, which was the other issue I mentioned happening.

I don't mind removing both the shows that are causing issues, don't really like one of them anyway and seen the other. Just would like to know what is causing the issue and how to avoid it in the future. At this stage it seems like a bug to me as I can't identify anything wrong on my side. I've triple checked folder structures and filenames and made sure everything matched how it should be as described on the wiki, which it all was.

  • 3 weeks later...

I am guessing the content overrides were not set correctly and that is causing the unexpected identification.
