Win10 Anniversary Edition breaks WMC

Just a heads up for those updating to the Anniversary Edition of Windows 10 that landed officially tonight, it breaks WMC and there doesn't seem to be an update from the guys at My Digital Forum to fix this yet.

When I ran the WMC (v12) install again it installed fine but tells me there is a software restriction stopping it from running.

Are there any details on that?

Don't like the idea of downloading a random install with no background on it!

Edit: downloaded it to a dmz pc I have and took a look inside. Appears to be the same install as my digital forum offer.

Seems a lot of people on mydigitallife are saying a re-install works ok after the anniversary upgrade, but a couple of people have had problems.

Going to try mine on a test machine and then get my two media centers done if it's ok. Failing that I'll be re-installing Windows 7 on the media centers as they're not used for anything else anyway

I'll report back how I get on once I've had chance to try it.

I tried all kinds of reinstalls and nothing helped so I do hope someone finds a fix.

Just seen this on My Digital Forums which is a newer install for W10 WMC and looks like a lot of people are having luck with it.

Will try this tonight.

Going to stick some time aside this weekend to test this and see how it goes.

The install in the link I posted above works perfectly!

It defaults to the green WMC theme but there are files there for the blue one thank god!

Just to offer my experience with this update (Win 10 Anniversary). WMC was previously installed & working fine on this W10 machine. After updating to W10A, I ran the previous WMC version uninstaller (because W10A indeed had broken WMC), then used the link from post #6 ... version 8.6 X64 version. Ran the installer and it installed fine with no problems. Had to rerun LiveTV setup and this is where I had a small hiccup. The guide wasn't downloading. Did an ipconfig /flushdns and that solved it for me. Guide downloaded and I'm back up and running with WMC and Emby for WMC.

here are the details.   I ran their version a long time ago..  So I can not vouch for their integrity now-a-days.  If your above link works then I wouldn't mess with this one.

Ran the normal v12 on my laptop after the anniversary upgrade just as a test and it worked perfectly first time. Be nice if my two media centers do the same, but unlikely to be that lucky, am doing the bedroom one remotely at the moment so we'll see I guess.

Pain in the neck having to set it all up again as I have custom theme, menus, TV logos the works, but hey ho.

Ok, I had the same problem with V12 not re-installing on our bedroom media center, tried 8.6 and that failed miserably too, however after cleaning up and rebooting, I ran the V11 installer as a couple of people had said it was a bit less sensitive and broader based and that appears to have installed perfectly. Just trying to set up Emby and my customisations to see if those work now.

Edit: confirmed, V11 works perfectly for both playing back recorded TV and all Emby functionality as well as custom menus and themes with MCEResetToolbox.

Big test will be doing our main media center in the living room this weekend as that has tv tuner cards in it too.

Ok, took the plunge tonight. Upgraded our main media center PC to the latest Windows 10 Anniversary update and experienced exactly the same as with our bedroom one.

V12 would not re-install, however uninstalling it using it's own uninstaller, then installing V11 works perfectly. It immediately ran through the wizards, found our TV tuner cards and set everything up, found 182 OTA channels (which is more than it usually does by quite a few, but that's probably coincidence) and everything works.

I've re-configured the network path for recorded TV (so both media centers can play back from the same location) and that works perfectly both for recording and playback, as well as all functionality of Emby (I had to uninstall and re-install that too) which also works perfectly.

Custom theme and menu tweaks done with MCEResetToolbox and you wouldn't know it had changed from yesterday.

Happy bunny again and all up to date.

So if anyone has issues with V12 or that alternative V8.6 then try uninstalling them with their own uninstaller, reboot and use V11 (I have it safely saved if anyone needs it).

Of course I'm in the UK and using Digital Terrestrial FreeView which is OTA and not encrypted, so I have no idea how this would work (if at all with these cable card things you guys have in the States) but the rest just works. :D
