bozrdnag 73
I have been running Kodi with a MySQl db for years and I'm considering swtiching to Emby for Kodi but I have some questions: 1. Does Emby scrape/maintain all the same tags as Kodi (IMDB Top 250, last played date and play count for example)? 2. Does Emby use the actual file runtime for the duration tag? 3. From what I read, the first time you run Emby for Kodi it syncs the Emby db with the current Kodi one. Does it do that with the MySQl db too or only a local Kodi db? Angelblue05 4130
Hi there 1. I don't know about the IMDB top 250, but the rest yes. Strm files are not fully supported - you won't be able to resume them, just play them/mark them as watched manually. 2. Yes, it probes the file - I don't believe this is read from nfos. 3. It's only a one way thing. First, you'd set up your library in Emby like you want it. Separated in sections as you'd like. Once you are happy, then you should get Emby for Kodi. Remove any MySQL setup - or you can simply back up the profile. Start with a clean slate, remove any library set in Kodi. Emby for Kodi will then sync your Emby database to Kodi. Your Emby server becomes the central point - it will hold watched status and such (the add-on will maintain this in Kodi for you, so you really don't have to do anything to your set up except pick a skin and modify the interface to suit you) - The add-on will create video nodes for your emby library sections - this is what you would use as skin shortcuts. bozrdnag 73
Thanks for the reply. IMDB top 250 is an issue for me as I have a couple smart playlists based on that. I don't currently use any strm files (just local stuff) so that's no biggie for me. You say it's only a one way thing which is what IU understood, but which way: Emby>Kodi or Kodi>Emby? Angelblue05 4130
I think the IMDB top 250 is handled by script in Kodi - skin helper made by @@marcelveldt - @@im85288 inputs? The way is Emby to Kodi - Content from Emby is added to Kodi. The add-on monitors playback, so your watched status for this content is synced back to Emby. But no content directly imported in Kodi can be sent to Emby. Hope this clarifies it Edited July 10, 2016 by Angelblue05
bozrdnag 73
I appreciate the feedback. I'll look into that script. Thanks! Is there any way to batch "mark as watched" movies in Emby? While I have had Emby Server setup for some time to stream to friends, I have never really watched anything in it myself so all of my 1500+ movies are marked as unwatched. Any way to avoid having to manually mark each one as watched before before switching to Emby for Kodi?
Angelblue05 4130
Do you have trakt? Otherwise Emby reads from nfo, so if they are marked as watched in the nfo, it should mark them as watched in Emby. You may need to run a full library scan in emby. But again, I'm not 100% sure on this, you can always post in the server section for more help. shorty1483 448
Since I don't want to open a new thread for my few question I want to hijack this. A friend of mine gave my a FireTV Stick as a present and I installed Jarvis 16.2 with latest Emby Beta Addon. Everything is working very nice for such a small stick. I just need to ask two little questions to the Kodi Professionals here : 1. I got all my subtitles stored as external "moviename.ger.forced.srt" in the movie directories. No movie file has an internal sub. I connected successfully my network shares with credentials inside Emby addon and Kodi file browser (just to be sure, even when not needed with http streaming option). How do I get the subs shown in Kodi, somehow I do not get to display them. I guess it's just a wrong setting...btw Emby is running in Addon mode, not with native paths. -> got it by resetting datase, now it works 2. Can I somehow tell Emby that a video with VC-1 codec needs to be transcoded due to the lack of hw-acc. in FireTV stick for VC1 without manually setting down the bitrate ? -> Nevermind, found another thread regarding this problem. I would assume your using the same skin on each Kodi install and one thing that is better with this method is that it is always up to date (the top250 info is retrieved on demand - along with rotten tomatoes ratings etc)....going even further we now show TV Top250 info from IMDB so we can achieve things with the skin helper that were not possible previously. And just to clarify as you stated you would need to run it on each Kodi install....it is not something you need to physically run, pick a skin that supports it for example Titan or if using Kodi 17 you could try my Estuarized mod of the new default Kodi skin and your good to go.
bozrdnag 73
I've never used it and didn't realize it worked like that. I'll look into it. Thanks for the heads up! Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
bozrdnag 73
I have a couple more questions on this. I am running the Titan skin in kodi and have Skin Helper installed but none of the configuration options mention anything about IMDB stuff. And after checking a few movies their rating and votes aren't synced up to IMDB. How do I get it to do this automatically? Additionally, my kodi db must have some IMDB Top 250 data in it as I can see rankings for some of my movies. But nothing shows up in a Smart Playlist I have that displays only movies with a Top 250 value greater than 0. Why doesn't it work?
