Blank Screen

For the last couple of days, Emby Theater is just giving me a blank screen when I run it (I can see the Emby logo in the top left and the clock in the top right, everything else is just black). The web client and iOS apps work fine, but I'd really like Emby Theater back. I've updated the server and completely reinstalled Emby Theater and I still get nothing. Oddly, if I hit the navigation buttons on my remote the navigation sounds play. Emby Theater also doesn't show up in the server Dashboard under Active Devices.

I've also had this issue for quite some time. I've tried all the suggestions and nothing works. I've even rebuilt my system after a HD failure and updated to Win10 and still no go. Would like to try it but just can't get it to run without the black screen. Only thing I can think of at this point is if there is some problem with NVidia drivers or screen resolution. I'm running at 2560x1600 (Native res of my monitors).

Any chance the system things you have duel monitor or something like that setup and is "appearing" on the second monitor?

Nope. Another strange behavior, if the app is at maximized the resize arrows still appear and will try to resize even bigger than 1 monitor (with the screen being black still).

Ensure Windows DWM hasn't been disabled.

Checked this multiple times and on Win7 and Win10. It's running right now under Win10.

The next thing would be to ensure that it hasn't crashed which nvidia drivers sometimes cause to happen.

Check the event viewer (Of windows)  for errors around the time you start ET.  This should tell you if nvidia drivers are crashing at launch.

Went through all the event logs for the whole day yesterday and no NVidia or graphics crashes.

7 days later and no help. I know it's not just me as there have been other posts about blank or black screens.

 

Are you using Windows API's for the app or some proprietary functions or language?

No, just electron which does depend on dwm being supported and enabled by your graphics hardware

I too am seeing this problem.

 

I loaded the latest version of ET on a Win7 machine.  The card is an AMD, not nVidia.  It does this 95% of the time.  There have been a FEW times when it didn't open with a black screen.

what you can do is search for a file under the installation called main.js. then near the bottom of the file, there is a line that says something like openDevTools.

 

It is commented out with two '//' at the beginning. remove the slashes, then run the app. it will have a dev console attached. see if it reports any errors.

I already closed it, and now I cannot replicate the issue......I'm going to move the machine back to the living room and see if it behaves.

 

Took it upstairs and it did it once.  I enables the devtoolkit again, and restarted 5x's, but each time ET started normally.

Hi , a couple of months i posted about this problem, got some answers about what to do, mostly wdm.

None of them worked, i did a fresh install on my pc (windows 10) and emby theater gives a black screen ...first it looks like it tries to start and then nothing.

For me emby theater is totally useless, have to stick to emby for mediacenter......

Another thing to check would be that your graphics card supports window transparency and that it hasn't been disabled in graphics driver settings.

Once I got it upstairs, it worked a few times.  But now it is back to that 90-95% of the time I get a black screen.

 

I had the devtools enabled this time.  I clicked over to the console tab....there was nothing in it.
