kangaroo mini pc

I just purchased a kangaroo mini pc, I have emby on my pc desktop and emby works great......im planning on using the Kangaroo mini pc to hook it up to my hd tv after I install emby theater on it and via my network stream Emby on my Television.....has any other member tried this?

I ask because emby works great in a windows environment and even though I have a samsung smart tv, I find the emby for samsung app to be a little laggy.....once its up and in use it is fine but changing shows or even moving on to the next episode is can be problematical (often times needing to restart the app)

it is my hope that by using the kangaroo mini pc, I can have the windows ease of use Via emby theatre, without the bugginess of the samsung app

has anyone tried this?

no transcoding will be done as that will already be done by my desktop pc.....the kangaroo mini pc will just be used to run emby theatre and to connect to my network,

Might be worth posting in the Samsung forum about this so that @@cmcg can have a look when he gets a chance.

It may well help others.

I have tested it and seemed fine. Waiting for theater to get game emulators and will probably make it my day to day machine.

cool I should get mine friday. just ordered a pc remote and wireless mouse and keyboard too    im glad someone else has blazed the trail before me

i specifically bought 2 smart tvs to make this easy for my 76 year old mom, but  the Emby for samsung app, while it does work, is too glitchy for her and she just gives up and uses the pc

ideally i want her to use her recliner and remote rather than have to get cramps from sitting at the computer all day

she loves emby dont get me wrong.....she has my entire library of 4000 movies and 60,000 episodes of tv she can watch on demand, its just too hard for her to get to on the tv via the app, its one thing for a computer savvy person to get around glitches, but for a non technical 76 year old. its a different story

im hopeful that the familiarity of windows on the Kangaroo mini will make it simpler for her

thanks

What version? 2 gigs or 4.gigs? Is ET smooth in navigation? Can you activate madvr with smooth playback?

I have not tested the madvr but it was smooth when I did test.

I just looked on newegg and am only seeing that they have 2 gig version's. It might be worth noting that there appears to be a new one out that has a better connector with built in VGA, HDMI, two usb ports, and a ethernet port. It looks like the addition cost is for the vga and ethernet port.

I am thinking about hooking it back up and playing with it some more. I really just want the game emulators back and it would become a primary client for me.

Correction: There is a Kangaroo+ that has double the ram and double the storage. Mine is the 2 GB and seemed to run fine. Again I plan to do more testing with all the recent changes to ET.

really dont know how i can. it does work after all. its just glitchy  and it might just be a samsung issue

on a pc everything is smooth and very rarely is there any lag

as an example today I installed the updated app on the samsung series H and it took 3 hours to sync and I had to enter the ip like 20 times to finally take

other apps you just search and they add instantly

often the app just disappears for no reason......im technically inclined and I get frustrated by it, so you can imagine how frustrated it makes my 76 year old mom, who isnt computer savvy.

cbers, im not complaining trust me, EMBY is fantastic, im just trying to make things easier for my mom....she loves having All "Her Shows" right there whenever she wants. bit sitting at her pc for extended periods gives her leg cramps. and if I can get the Smart tv app to work like the pc app shed be able to keep her legs up and no cramps.....

my suspicion its more of a samsung issue rather than emby itself

thats why Im trying to avoid the samsung interface entirely by hooking up the Kangaroo mini. this way its a windows environment and the Kangaroo does all the work, and the tv just acts as a glorified monitor.

Think it will be smooth for Emby Theatre, both navigation and playback with MadVr and smooth playback...

Raise a post in the Samsung forum and hopefully @@cmcg or @@FrostByte can assist, but it should only take a couple of minutes to sync.

Instead of spending hundreds on mini computers, why not just get a Roku for $99?

My kids and wife use their Roku's all the time and they work flawless.

Good point. For me i will install this on my brother in law house at 5000+ kilometers from the server. So I need to be able to take control from outside in case of problems.

At the other side ET is really really more advanced in term of feature and interface.

So for my needs a Windows system is better I think.

$99 is what a kanagroo cost and as soon as game emulators get implemented you will have a one in all system. Both your "video" collection and a decent enough system for old school games (nes, snes, n64, and the like).

Yeah I know buy if you want to have something evolutive and enough strong for next 3/4 years I suggest going with a mini-pc with i3/i5. Emby theatre is going to become more and more heavy because of more and more features get implemented. And I am not sure that all movies can be played with MadVr and smooth playback activated on the Kangaroo...
