Subtitles causing playback to not work on Firetv stick

Choosing subtitles (internal, external, any format) crashing the video. It just keeps skipping between the last frame and the frame before that while showing the loading circle. Happens on all files and all those files work fine when not selecting subs.

Subtitles used to work... But now they don't.

I really like Emby when it's working but it's happening way too often that something that used to work suddenly stops working.

Awesome.

Since subs are working on the android app I thought let's use a MHL adapter. Unfortunately that crashes Emby.

Wonderful. Just about everytime I want to use Emby to watch something with my girlfriend it craps out one way or another.

Latest version. logs? Try playing any file.

Just in case this info is needed; forced subs, either by the movie or by setting them in the profile settings, prevent videos from playing at all. Just crashes the video player.

Before you could kinda trick the Firetv stick by resuming from a file that already had subs selected.

Anyway this happened somewhere over the past two weeks or so I think.

Logs I cannot upload because I'm not at home.

Did you just update the app or server?  What version of each?

What we'll need is a screenshot of the media info from the web client for one of these items and for you to send the log from the app after making the problem occur.  Once you've sent the log, please post here the time you did it and the Emby user that was logged on.  Thx.

Doesn't the Firetv app update automatically? I thought something changed a while ago but I never updated the app myself nor can I find a button to turn updates on/off. Server Version 3.0.5970.0.

Movie 1 causes a lot of separate logs to be created. I attached a couple of them. Movie 2 creates only 1 log entry.

Thanks but I need the application log when you do this.  Go into the app settings (BTW you can then confirm the app version number there...) and turn on the Debug options.

Then make your problem happen, go back to the home screen and send the log and then come here and tell me you did it and what Emby user was logged on at the time.  Thx.

Isn't it possible for one of the devs to try and replicate the problem?

The Firetv is at my gf's place and I can't ask her to do troubleshooting.

Luke, I can't.

Any file that has subs looks to be crashing the Firetv stick when enabling subs. I think you can just use any file as long as it has subs and it will probably crash when enabling them or not load the video at all if they are forced.

All my files are similar to the two media infos I posted.

This looks very similar to the subs problem I reported for the android app a couple of months ago (at least from the outside).

If that were the case there would be a whole lot more people in here reporting this problem, I think.

I cannot reproduce it with my content with forced subtitles.  So, we've got to figure out what the actual conditions are somehow.

could it be the extraction taking a long time causing a client crash? there are no sub extraction logs here so i can only guess that there was no extraction that occurred.

What if you try a standard HDTV content with no forced subs and while the file is playing open the menu and select a sub (.srt)? All my files are transcoded.

If I don't select subs they play back just fine (except for the movie 2, I don't think that has forced subs but for some reason it doesn't work on the FTV while it does on the android app. Both transcoding, both from the same remote network). All files work fine with subs from the android app played over the same remote network. The issue occurs right after selecting the sub.

Subs worked fine until about two or three weeks ago I think.

No, the extraction is done in the background and will just time out and display a message that it couldn't load the subs.

The log sent from the app when this happens would still be the most valuable piece of information for tracking this down.

Also, the app doesn't actually "crash" correct?  You can back out of the video...?

Movie 1 I can back out of. Movie 2 crashes the player after a while (cannot load video or something is displayed )

I'm having this error as well, and I know I didn't have it a few weeks ago. I pause my video, and then select the subtitles I want. When I attempt to play again, the video just cycles on a couple of frames, over and over.

I just sent you my log right after playing a video and trying to change to English subs on a DragonBall Kai episode.

I knew I couldn't be the only one! :P

Maybe you could send the FireTV logs to the devs? I won't be able to do so until Saturday or Sunday.

I already did,per my last message. It's easy to do...you just go to the settings section of the firestick and click on "enable debug log"..then when you back out of the settings menu..a new button appears that says "send debug log"

They've been trying to get you to do that for awhile :P

Haha yeah I know it's easy but I don't have the Firetv at my place ;p

Interesting.  In your log, I see it failing to play items when you didn't select a subtitle but I don't see errors when you do...

You are on a stick as well, right?
