Hi All,

Not posted for a while but looking for members thoughts on the following.

Looking to replace the flat screen in the bedroom with a smart TV specifically to talk with my Emby server. Spec (UK)  Freeview HD tuner, 1080 res, up to 28". Manufacturer, LG or Samsung though leaning more toward Samsung with smart hub.

Which is more compatible with Emby currently?

If you go Samsung you will need to make sure you get a H series as that is the latest that the app can be installed on.

Unless you want a really Old TV ~2011 app's don't exist for either.

It's only by chance my samsung in the bedroom is an older model (Picked it up cheap in a sale)

I just want to update you all because I know you are waiting for an Emby for LG app. We have submitted it to the LG store but there appears to be a very long wait time in the app review process. Hopefully it will not be too much longer. Thank you for your patience.

I have both and I would recommend samsung instead. The LG software is nice but very limited. I think the Samsug that cost a fraction of the cost of my LG does a lot more.

I love my LG TV and for the price it was the best deal. Great picture quality. But OMG WebOS is useless for apps. Not that you really need that many apps for a TV, but still.

I just purchased a 2016 Samsung TV and the software is much nicer than webos and there is plenty of content. I use a cable card and it can play DRM channels so I don't need to attach anything to it. The previous Samsung software was a little sluggish.

There is an update for the Emby Samsung app rolling out now so you should give it a shot. It's version 1.0.14 and it will most likely direct play everything you throw at it.

Cool. It works great but ai don't see a TV guide. Is this the same app coming to LG or is it another app with the name screenplay?

I have both and would definitely go with Samsung. Smart hub is much nicer then WebOS IMO. However using either of them or any TV for that matter as my main media client (Emby/Plex) just doesn't cut it. Requires transcoding to often to lower quality as its unable to direct play video I shoot with high bitrates of 40 to 50Mbit without stutter and choppiness. Smart TVs just don't have the horsepower yet of a high end media box such as my Roku Ultra and Apple TV 4 which play those files with ease.

I realize a lot of people wouldn't have this issue due to not having extreme bitrate video in their libraries and in that case a smart TV is fine.
