Movie Skipping Backward

When I play a movie, it plays for roughly 4-5 minutes, and then the video stream skips backward in time, and continues to play form that point. As the video continues to play, it continues past the point at which it previously skipped, but then the video skips backward again, another 5 minutes later.

This only appears to be happening when I watch via the Apple TV. When I watch via Firefox directly on the media server, the movie plays well.

I tested with two different servers, from two different locations, with several different movies, all with the same results.

I attached the three log files which were created after I clicked play.

How do we begin to troubleshoot this?

Sounds like HLS streaming issues although I've never heard of them in the middle of the item like that before.  Can you post the media info from the web client for a couple of these?

I'm not sure what 'media info' you are asking for. Can you clarify what you need me get?

I can also create a user for you if you need it.

Vidman

If you view the item in the web client the media info should be listed at the bottom of the detail screen

I attached a screenshot of the media info you requested.

Sounds like HLS streaming issues...

@@ebr I think you're on the right track.

After you mentioned this, I started looking at the stream. I noticed that the transcoding would pause at 4min 20sec. I assumed that the transcoding paused because 'Enable throttling' was turned on, which is the default and normal behavior.

I then checked the exact time of when the skip occurs in the video playback, and it was also occurring at 4min 20sec.

Since there appears to be a correlation in time, I turned off the throttling to let the transcode run indefinitely. Turning off the throttling seems to fix the issue and the video no longer skips. I went back and forth several times turning off and on the throttling, and each time it produced the same results.

How can I help to continue troubelshooting?

Hmmm... interesting.

Luke - possible there is an issue with throttling and our stream copy we are doing now...?

Well they're not used together. if the video is stream copying there's no throttling because it's not needed there.

I have been working on this issue via PM with Emby and I have not been able to reproduce this issue with the latest Emby Server 3.1.2.0.

As far as I can tell this is resolved, but I will post here if I see it again.
