Multi-version TV Shows

The ability to have each resolution pre-encoded has been great and is saving me a lot of money with Amazon EC2. I don't have to have a massivly powerful/expensive instance to transcode movies now.

I have not been able to find/figure out a way to have multi-version TV shows. For Movies its simple, for example Office space is set up like this:

Office Space.m4v (full Blu-ray quality)

Office Space - 1080p.m4v

Office Space - 720p.m4v

Office Space - 480p.m4v

Office Space - Trailer.m4v

setting up all the movies like this allows me to not have to transcode anything, and in the web/Roku interface they show up as one movie.

Trying to do the same for TV shows does not work.

Expedition Unknown - S01E01 - 1080p.m4v

Expedition Unknown - S01E01 - 720p.m4v

Expedition Unknown - S01E01 - 480p.m4v

Only the first one that gets copied into the library has any metadata/images attached to it. Everything else is just a blank duplicate. I cant figure out how to have multi-versions of an episode show up as one episode.

I really like that Emby with select and direct stream the closest compatible stream to the requested quality without having to transcode. How do I do this for TV shows?

Hi, we don't currently support this for episodes but it's planned for the future.

Sweet! Thank you for getting back to me. Its good to know that is comming in the future.

Thank you for all the work you guys have put in over the years. I have been a long time supporter and Emby is amazing. It has come along way from Media Browser, and keeps getting better all the time.

I am looking forward to the multi-version tv support and 2d/3d support!

Once again, Thank you!

How does series pooling relate to this issue?

I am getting my server updated to the dev version to start playing around with this.

I do have one more question, What format/resolution/bitrate do I need to have on the server to allow syncing that does not require transcoding on a windows computer?

I have the  "Allow syncing that requires transcoding" unselected on a test user and that user can not sync anything.
