DTS 5.1 being transcoded for some movies but not others

I have an odd issue.  Most of my movies with DTS 5.1 sound direct play on the Nvidia Shield TV app.  However, I have come across two that transcode to DD 5.1, and I do not understand why.  They are also related to one another in that they are the Avengers movies.  Below is the media info for the audio for the files including an example of a movie which direct plays DTS 5.1 (Spectre).  The subtitles are the same format as is the container, MKV, and the video which uses the h264 codec.  I also have the max streaming bitrate set to 40 Mbps.

What is the full media info for the items?  Likely it is something in one of the other streams that is causing the transcode.

I added the Video and Subtitle information to my original post.  The only difference I see outside of small fluctuations in the bitrate and framerate is in the resolution and aspect ratio, but the Age of Ultron and Spectre are almost identical there and behave differently in terms of direct playing or transcoding the audio while the original Avengers movie and the sequel are different in those areas but both transcode the audio.

More than likely the Avengers movies are burning in the subs.  If you ever switched them on, the server will remember this and have them on the next time you play.

The first Avengers movie has forced subs for some foreign language as does Spectre.  I had to burn them in since they were separate tracks and not hardcoded.  The Age of Ultron does not have any hardcoded subtitles.  How does this affect the transcoding of the audio?  Since the Avengers transcodes DTS 5.1 to DD 5.1 and Spectre does not but direct plays DTS 5.1, I don't see a connection that makes sense.

If the item has to be transcoded - for any reason - then DTS audio will be converted to some other format that can be streamed.  Depending on certain conditions, this will be either AAC or AC3 (DD).

I guess I'm like that little kid who keeps asking why, since I have two kids of my own who do that, but I really want to understand why it is transcoding.  I know it's not a big difference from DTS to DD 5.1, but it is using my server resources which I want to avoid.  I also prefer not to alter the audio if possible since my sound system supports it.  I can play these same movies on SPMC in DTS, so I know the shield and my receiver can work together to output the native audio stream.

Ever since the most recent update (or the most recent server update...can't tell which) I've run into the same problem.  Almost half of my movies are transcoding when before the update it was direct.  Thoughts?

The PGS subtitles are what is causing the transcode more than likely.  If you post a transcode log I could confirm.

I'll try to do that tonight.  What can be different about the subtitles that would cause the audio of one file to transcode and not the other?  Almost all of my blu ray movies have PGS subtitles but only a few of them are transcoded.

The difference would be whether or not the subs are selected and which app is doing the playing.

Both logs are burning in subtitles so if you're asking why it's transcoding that would be the reason. It looks like PGS support is going to be added to the player framework that we're using so as soon as it's available you can be sure that we'll take advantage of it.

So this is a function of the video player used by Emby on the Nvidia Shield TV?  The Amazon Fire TV direct plays the DTS in those same files perfectly fine, but I am assuming that uses a different player.

I wanted to report back that these movies are now direct playing DTS.  I noticed the note below in the latest update, and that must have fixed it.  Thanks!
