Cannot connect to server with Emby Theater for Xbox One

"We are unable to connect to the selected server right now. Please ensure it is running and try again."

I am having problems connecting. I have done the Emby Connect pin thing and I do see my server listed. But I get the error message when trying to connect. I have also tried manual connection with both DNS name and IP address. Same result.

Other clients work fine and DLNA to the XBox works.

Logs here.

Further testing reveals that I have this problem everywhere but the machine hosting Emby Server. However Emby clients such as Emby Theater, Emby for WMC and Emby for iOS work.

app.emby.media works, but a bit clunky since I have to use browsing controls and stuff.

Any ideas?

From bad to worse. Now I can't even see the servers on a couple of Macs and a couple of iOS devices. Just the Emby logo top left, the time top right, and a whole load of blackness.

When I steer the Xbox to tv.emby.media, I do see the server listed as before. However again I get "We are unable to connect to the selected server right now. Please ensure it's running and try again" regardless of connection method (manual or through the listing on the page).

The machine running the server can still connect.

I am seeing the same behavior, and I believe the problem is with Edge.  Using Chrome on the same tablet, I am able to connect to tv.emby.media with no problems.  From any Edge browser (including xBox), I get to the point where I am to select a server.  No matter what I am presented with the message "we are unable to connect right now. Please..."

I was getting the same error on several tablets in the household.  When I switch to Chrome - it works.

Just trying to help figure out the root.

Yup, it does seem to be edge specific.  Using firefox on my pc I can connect fine.  I'm not using Emby Connect, I just put in the server url and port.  Same PC with Edge doesn't connect and, of course, neither does the xbox one.  That same sbox can do play-to and DLNA browseing to the server on its internal address with no trouble.

Hi All,

Just checking to see if anybody has a solution to this.  I'd love to be able to browse on my XBOX using the web client.  Does anybody have a suggestion?

You can browse to https://tv.emby.media/ in Edge, manually enter the external address of your ET server (skipping emby connect), and connect?  I consistently get the unable to connect message if I use Edge.  Are there logs I can get you to help?

Use the http version - http://tv.emby.media

You can only use the https site if your server already has ssl configured, and even then, i haven't tested self-signed certs with this app yet.

Darn, I block the HTTP connection port so I'll have to just guess you're right.  It does work fine through firefox, FYI.

The Xbox browser probably did not like self signed certs and there is no way to force it to accept it

Makes sense.  I'll continue to wait for MS to really open up the darn universal app platform they promised us years ago.  There's a reason I gave up and bought a NUC for my primary playback device.

You can still use http://tv.emby.media and connect to your local lan address, with or without emby connect.

Unless you cutoff access to the HTTP port for Emby on your router and only allow https connections.  Trying to connect to the HTTP URL on the HTTPS port doesn't work so well ;)

but that would all be internal over the lan so why would the router come into play?

Should it be?  I'd been entering the external DNS name of my server and its external port through my firewall.  I tried the internal address and that gets nowhere too though I assumed that the connection would be coming from tv.emby.media rather than my local browser so that hadn't surprised me at all.

no it's all local from the browser on the device.

Interesting.  Then no clue why it doesn't work for me.  I'll have to fire up wireshark and track down what's going on.  Thanks for the info!

I'm bumping this thread because I'm wondering if there are any updates on this. I'm still unable to use my XBox One with Emby for the same reasons as before. Cannot connect.

I was going to say I test the app on Xbox one pretty much daily and haven't been able to reproduce any connection problems

Hey guys. I'm having problems connecting to Emby on my xbone. I was able to connect once using the pin method but all subsequent attempts have failed. Instead of a pin I'm getting a message telling me that it can't get a pin and to try again. I tried to manually connect by skipping the pin . I entered my server ip. But when I go to connect it's telling me my Emby username and pw are wrong. I'm going crazy trying to figure this out. I'm probably missing something very simple. Any advice will be greatly appreciated!

Some of this stuff is a bit "obvious" but you never know.

- Is Emby Server running?

- CFC (Check First the Cable). Are both XbOne and Emby Server on the network and on same subnet?

- Check the server logs for any useful info.

- If they can "see" each other, try creating a new user for testing.

Barring that, plonk the server logs in a Dropbox folder and post it here for the experts to examine.
