I had an i3-4xxx in my HTPC and went to an i7-4790 and all of a sudden the following things started happening:

  • Every time I turn my monitor/TV off the screen resolution goes to 1024x768 and when I turn it back on it stays that way unless I change it manually.
  • When I go play a movie in MPC-HC, the refresh rate does not change automatically anymore and it crashes. It says that MadVR cannot create the image or something and it creates a crash report. The only way to get it to work is to set it on the exact refresh rate of the movie and then it will play fine.

That's basically it but those are some pretty big issues if you ask me

Any ideas on how to fix? I have already uninstalled and reinstalled the video drivers for hd4600

I would try upgrading the BIOS of your computer. It is typically something that gets overlooked. Changelog might not have anything in it that looks applicable because vendors don't do a good job of saying what was fixed, but it is worth a shot.

You using "on board" video? If so wipe the drivers download the newest intel drivers for your I7's video.

the resolution issue can be fixed by installing something like splashtop remote desktop, ultravnc etc. remote onto the PC while the monitor/TV is off. The resolution will be 1024x768. now change the res to 1080p and quit the remote session.

now the resolution will be the same when the monitor is on and off.

With MADvr, uninstall it and reinstall. from memory it adds some hook drivers that integrate with the display drivers to change the refresh rate.
