Collection Issue

I have my collections in folders. i.e. Hotel Transylvania movies are in a folder nested inside an Animation folder. This has worked fine untill I just noticed today that only one of the three Hotel Transylvania movies shows in the collection I created. I removed them from their folder and placed them all out in the Animation folder. Now they get found and the newly created collection shows them all. But right after this my Pirates of the Caribbean Collection started doing the same thing. Only shows one of four movies and it was fine until I changed the Hotel Transylvania collection.

Structure is like this

Movies

  Adventure

    Pirates of the Caribbean

So now all of a sudden has this changed and I need all the movies dumped into the genre folder?

The same thing happened to all of my Collections. I had them set up like Happy2Play and now only 1 shows in the Collections Folder on Emby...and not even shows in general Animated Movies folder on Emby. But when I use Emby search it takes me to the movies, but does not show me where they are located on Emby. Why the change? How can we opt out of such changes if everything is working well for us?

We're here to help :) can you possibly show a screenshot to demonstrate your issue? I'm having a hard time visualizing it. Thanks.

I'm not sure what you want a screenshot of? My Window's folder where I have my movies separated into various folders or my Emby Collections folder? Or one of my regular folders in Emby that shows collections along with what other movies I have in that folder, and shows that the collections now only have one movie, where once there were 2,3 ,4, 5?

I did what FLHTHEMI did and took my Window's organized movies and moved them into one massive folder within Windows and then had to redo all of my collections folder on Emby by adding all of the movies to them again, and then they show up. They were fine in collections prior to the last update. Rather frustrating to spend hours reorganizing everything into collections again.

A side question is there a way to delete all collections folders without having to go and delete each one individually? Thank you.

Server is probably seeing them all as different editions due to a recent change on how those are named. If you go to the ice age movie, does it list them all in the media info section?

What server version?  Sounds similar to this.

Yes it is similar to the linked post....

I'm using the latest stable release of Emby (3.0.5821.0) for Windows server.

Maybe I can verbalize it a little better. Collections are not working properly. If you have several collections created ONE of them will only display ONE movie when you open the collection. How that one collection is chosen to exhibit this condition seems random.

Movies

  Animation

   Hotel Transylvania Collection

   Toy Story Collection

Inside Animation also exists movies that are in collections but NOT in separated folders and movies that are NOT in any collections

  Adventure

   Indiana Jones Collection

   Pirates of the Caribbean Collection

Inside Adventure also exists movies that are in collections but NOT in separated folders and movies that are NOT in any collections

So my entire MOVIES folder is broken down into Genres then inside a genre are a few folders of various collections. OUTSIDE the collection folders but inside the genre are other movies.

If a movie collection gets created it MIGHT be RANDOMLY selected by EMBY to either show all the movies in that collection or it might only be ONE movie that shows in the collection even though ALL movies in the collection folder were added to the collection. Using the SEARCH function will display all the movies...i.e. search for "Hotel Transylvania" will show the three I have but NOT as a collection or inside the collection when opened from the search results. Also in library view only ONE movie will be displayed AFTER you delete the collection. In my case the Hotel Transylvania 3D.mp4 file in the only one to show ANYWHERE in Emby other than using SEARCH.They are also not being found in the Media Info section.

Movies

  Animation

    Hotel Transylvania Collection

       Hotel Transylvania.avi

       Hotel Transylvania 3D.mp4

       Hotel Transylvania 2.avi

Until I move these files from the Hotel Transylvania Collection FOLDER in to the Animation folder only ONE (Hotel Transylvania 3D.mp4) shows in the Hotel Transylvania Collection in Emby. AND after the Hotel Transylvania Collection FOLDER is deleted (as it is now empty) a totally different collection will exhibit this same behavior when prior to the Hotel Transylvania Collection changes it was working properly.

Hope this helps...but I gotta feeling I got too long winded... :)

That is, delicately, an unusual movie organization.  You can choose to change your setup or not but what works consistently with absolutely any movie app I've ever thrown at it is each movie in its own clearly labeled folder:

\\Movies\Animation\Hotel Transylvania (2012)\Hotel Transylvania (2012).mkv

\\Movies\Animation\Hotel Transylvania (2012)\Hotel Transylvania (2012).3D-HTAB.mkv

\\Movies\Animation\Hotel Transylvania 2 (2015)\Hotel Transylvania 2 (2015).mkv

\\Movies\Animation\Toy Story (1995)\Toy Story (1995).mkv

\\Movies\Animation\Toy Story 2 (1999)\Toy Story 2 (1999).mkv

\\Movies\Animation\Toy Story 3 (2010)\Toy Story 3 (2010).mkv

Alternatively, though I don't recommend it, would be:

\\Movies\Animation\Hotel Transylvania Collection [boxset]\Hotel Transylvania (2012)\Hotel Transylvania (2012).mkv

\\Movies\Animation\Hotel Transylvania Collection [boxset]\\Hotel Transylvania (2012)\Hotel Transylvania (2012).3D-HTAB.mkv

\\Movies\Animation\Hotel Transylvania Collection [boxset]\\Hotel Transylvania 2 (2015)\Hotel Transylvania 2 (2015).mkv

\\Movies\Animation\Toy Story Collection [boxset]\Toy Story (1995)\Toy Story (1995).mkv

\\Movies\Animation\Toy Story Collection [boxset]\Toy Story 2 (1999)\Toy Story 2 (1999).mkv

\\Movies\Animation\Toy Story Collection [boxset]\Toy Story 3 (2010)\Toy Story 3 (2010).mkv

Doing collections in folder structures is a deprecated function and won't allow you to use all collections functions in all clients.  Breaking your movies into genre folders is fine if you enjoy the organization but it also has zero impact in the application's own genre functions so it's not required in any way.

Strange as this is how I've managed it with PlayOn, Kodi and now Emby. Never been an issue until this last update for Emby. I don't use PlayOn any longer but still use Kodi and Emby. If this is the way Emby is going to function from now on I'll make the changes but not until I've been convinced its not a bug and is the intended way for it to function.

Happy2Play

Well if its is the same issues I linked above then it should be fixed when beta goes Stable/Official.

Yea you could try jumping on the beta server although make sure to read the blog announcement before considering doing that.

I'm having the same issue.  I've created the "colllection.xml" for each directory I have my collections in i.e. \Movies\All_Movies\He-man\....Once I see all the titles, they eventually disappear leaving one title in the collection I assume bunching all of them as one movie.

I've switched from beta and standard edition back and forth.  During these updates back and forth, I spent a vast amount of time restoring my old server which is taking all of my time.

And of course, I can't go back to a version before this release (which I wished I could).

This has got to be fixed.

Now all my titles I placed into custom collections (other than the ones that can be found via imdb or tmdb) have been removed other than a single title.

Luke, is anyone looking into this?   If not, can someone direct me to the previous Emby Version that could remedy this until it's fixed?  I've spent too much time already.

Is your library exactly the same as the other two poster?  Provide library structure, screenshots, logs of the issue.  How is your library added to Emby (content type)?

I've switched from beta and standard edition back and forth.

Do to the database changes you are not able to switch back and forth between stable and beta, unless you are doing clean installs.

Does it work better if you make the library type "Mixed"?

That manual genre folder and collection folder organization may be conflicting with the strict Movies type.

Really can't say as I've never had to do that before. I'll give it a shot though.

EDIT: Just tried mixed and no joy.

None of the pirates movies show, nor does the folder they are in,  in the metadata editor  as well.

So today I uninstalled Emby, deleted everything and all the other folders I could find too. Reinstalled it and got all new data. Still no joy in my house :(

FLHTHEMI  did you try the beta to see if it resolved your issue?

No need I have just discovered what the issue is!

If you do your structure like I do (and it's said this a not the way to do it but I always have with no issues)

Movies

  Action

   Pirates of the Caribbean

   Superman

   Indiana Jones

 Comedy

   Abbott and Costello COLLECTION

The word collection must be contained as the last word of the folder name,

But if you do it like this:

Classic Movies

  Action

  Collections

     John Wayne

     Mel Brooks

You don't need it the name of these sub folders as it's already under the folder COLLECTIONS

So once I renamed the folder "Pirates of the Caribbean" to "Pirates of the Caribbean Collection" then deleted the existing collection from Emby library and added it back in as such it worked again.

This didn't occur until V3.0.5821.0 as best I can determine.

So it's a bug or this is the intended way for it to work?

that's not really true, we don't have anything looking for that name, although it might affect metadata searches on TheMovieDb. i would try the beta.

I'm in no big hurry and really don't want to spend my free time doing another fresh install (got a bunch of other stuff that I need to get done).  So I'll just wait till the beta is released as a stable release.
