tmb4016 86
Hi all, Another funny after latest upgrade to Version 3.0.5865.0 On a batch of films - seem to be ones recently added but not exclusively the MPAA rating data is being read incorrectly meaning films do not show up due to parental controls. It appears that Emby is reading the MPAA Description xml not the MPAA rating xml. an example of the xml and associated metadata manager view is shown below. Anybody else or any ideas. Luke 36888
We only read it from Content and MPAARating. I would consider switching to nfo as that's been our default for over a year now and that's what is getting the majority of testing and development. tmb4016 86
I don't use Emby for metadata. It is too limited. This has resulted in collection for parentally controlled user accounts seeing approx 40% of the collection. nfo may not have the same issue but I don't have them available. With regard to the xml as you can see in the above screenshots the MPAA rating contains the correct data. but Emby server is clearly reading the MPAADescription this is effectively meaning to get it to work xml is no longer supported. Luke 36888
there is nothing in the core reading mpaadescription as the rating. the screenshot doesn't paint the whole picture. Perhaps you can do some trial and error changing various values within the xml to help narrow down the issue.
tmb4016 86
Thanks for quick response ... Tried a couple of things . Modified MPAADescription in xml and then checked in Emby - no change in data shown it still showed the old MPAADescription text. Then modified the MPAA rating in xml and checked in Emby - now showed the old MPAARating value. Then modified ContentRating and checked and Emby still displaying old MPAARating Value. Not sure what else to try other than to delete the cache and see what happens. This latest release appears to have some funnies immediately after update. tmb4016 86
newly generated nfo file works fine. However so does editing the data in emby and resaving the xml file. This is a serious PIA. Clearly something has changed and despite your assurances that emby does not read MPAA Description - in some circumstances it clearly does... I do not want have to resave every file or generate new nfo files. On the pont of dropping the whole thing. Emby should be there to help me spend my time watching media not spend hours playing with metadata.
Luke 36888
can you provide a sample xml file?

I don't want to interfere in this issue. I just want to recommend that somewhere in the docs those kinds of "suggestions" or "tips" can be read by us. Why? -> Until now I didn't know NFO was the preferred.
Luke 36888
Hello again, Luke. I don't want to interfere in this issue. I just want to recommend that somewhere in the docs those kinds of "suggestions" or "tips" can be read by us. Why? -> Until now I didn't know NFO was the preferred. It has been our default for over a year and a half i would say. Lots of other programs support nfo so that makes it the best choice. We still support xml, but we just don't allocate as much time and testing for it as we do nfo.

I'll begin today learning about it. I always deleted the .nfo files that came with my downloads. I hope emby can recreate all of it :-D
Luke 36888
Well this isn't really a question of nfo vs no metadata at all, it's strictly about nfo vs xml. If you don't want local metadata at all then that's totally different and perfectly fine.

ebr 14863
Make sure your items don't also have an nfo file coming from somewhere else. The only time I've seen this particular issue is when an NFO either came with the media or was created by another program.
tmb4016 86
As explained in previous posts no nfo files present at all. I've had to generate them to test on odd films.
Luke 36888
Can you try to reproduce this with a new movie? I understand you believe what you believe and you want to associate it with the update, but i think there might be something else at play that we haven't realized yet. thanks. tmb4016 86
Hi - Ok tried adding a new film and all works as you would expected. It looks like it is just stuff that already exists but not everything. I cannot find any logic. All the xml files are correct and match the format of the newly added movie. The old ones display the Mpaa description in the MPaa rating and as such disappear from any parental controlled use accounts.
tmb4016 86
ok - Deleted library.db and rescanned - was all looking good in that all films returned. Gradually though for parental control users, the films are dropping off and when checking Emby records for the Parental rating for films that are missing it is displaying the mpaa description even though the xml files have the correct data. Emby now useless for my requirements and has now been removed. Against my wishes alternatives being sort. So-long and thanks for all the fish.... Luke 36888
Nobody else supports that old xml file format though. If you want to try nfo i think you'll have a much better experience. Nfo has been our default for almost two years now. Unfortunately we only have so many resources to support multiple formats and that has left xml on the wrong side of the stick.
