Set emby Theater as shell

I've seen other threads about black screens, not sure if this is related or not. Appreciate this is just a small thing but it does detract from the overall HTPC experience watching it boot to explorer and then waiting for emby to load. Any ideas?

I've had a black screen upon boot when my ethernet cable was ajar. Pushing it in didn't fix the program, though it fixed windows in general. My guess is that if you don't have ethernet emby freaks out and doesn't recover. My guess is perhaps the way they are doing it, they are loading Emby before any ethernet drivers are loaded or connections are made.

As I was researching the best possible options to initiate ET on windows load, so I thought Kodi might have an app developed which I could borrow idea from, bang! on I stumbled onto this http://computingondemand.com/startup-kodi-xbmc-smarter-way/, an app have been developed that make it simple, the thought that came to mind is, this could be useful for emby, I presumed it is developed to launch more than Kodi, If truly it does what it purport, i think it should be a good fit for ET, and hope it solves some of the issues reported in this thread.

Well I am yet to try it, but if anyone wishes to take a lead on this, pls post your findings after installation.

Guys,

I packaged up a launcher that I use on my boxes. Instead of just a delayed start it waits for the network connection to activate before starting theater. https://raw.githubusercontent.com/davidtjudd/EmbyTheaterLauncher-Installer/master/EmbyLauncherSetupv1.0.0.0.zip

The installer will place a link to the launcher in your startup folder. By default the launcher will try for 5 minutes. If it times out or can't find emby.theater.exe it will prompt you to make changes. Source code is available on github if you are the tinkering type.

Why not try the Group Policy setting to wait for network connection before login?

Same process that mellomade covered, but a different settings location.

1.  Start - Run and type 'gpedit.msc' and enter.

2.  Select the folder Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\System\Logon

3.  In the settings list you will find 'Always wait for the network at computer startup and logon' - double click this.

4.  Select 'Enabled'

5.  Restart.
