Guys after some urgent help please!

I'm expecting the arrival of a new Xbox One today and want to get the heads up on how I get EMBY running on it before I remove my Xbox 360.

I've never used an Xbox One so what do I need to download if I'm already running the server on my PC?

Is there a guide somewhere as I know at least a dozen other people that are getting one this week and will be asking me the very same question ever since I put them on to EMBY on WMC for the 360.

Please guys, any help would be really appreciated as I have no idea where to start!

Thanks and seasons greeting to you all :)

You won't need to download anything.

As long is you have the DLNA server running in Emby it will how up on you Xbox one under "media player" there currently isn't a standalone app for Xbox one.

You can also "play to" the Xbox one like you would chromecast.

The XboxOne will show up in emby under the casting icon.

One piece of advice I can tell you is that if you restart the server, the Xbox one doesn't immediately show up under the play to list. It takes a good couple minutes. If you are impatient then you can restart the Xbox one and it will show up immediately.

I have heard that this year at some point Xbox one will support miracast, which allows you to mirror a device display in your Xbox one, I can't wait for that!

Hope that helps you out! I use Xbox one as my living room client and am quite happy with it, although sometimes it is a love/hate relationship...

By the way Xbox one doesn't support DTS audio, but AC3 seems to be okay. To be honest everything freakin transcodes to the Xbox one for me. Just try an keep your rips at a lower bitrate and you won't experience to much hiccuping when watching video... And "Game On!!"

Thanks Chef for the words of wisdom :)

I'm used to being in the lounge where the Xbox is and running emby on WMC to browse my media library to decide what to watch.

I don't want to have to go to the other room where the PC Server is and chose to "Play To" each time I want to watch something, so I was kind of hoping there was a way I can chose what I want to watch directly from the Xbox One etc.

Does the Xbox One media player work the same way the Xbox 360 media player does?

The problem with the Xbox 360 Media Player was it could only playback .AVI files and didn't like MKV's etc.

Are there any plans to make an Xbox One App to mirror the function Emby had in WMC for the Xbox 360 does anyone know?

I have heard of some people using the I explorer/edge web browser to pull up the web client in Xbox one, but I think that the media player is what you are looking for.

I use the Edge client on my XB1 to get the Web Client interface. The web client works a lot better than the old IE browser we had before the NXE update. I don't recall any functional issues last few times I used it, but it can take a couple of tries before the Media player will play something the first time.

When you use the web client, you can select the "Play to" target in the upper right without leaving your couch. Or you can use media player as a DNLA browser, probably like the 360, but I never used my 360 that way.

Most of my stuff is MKV and other than sometimes having to select it a couple times to get started, everything plays fine.

There is a thread down in the "Other Apps" about the XB1 client. It is coming, probably as a Win10 Universal App, but I'm not aware of any additional details. My SWAG is that it would resemble either the web client or Emby Theater in functionality and look-n-feel. A single app would be nice (instead of jumping back and forth between the browser and the media player) but getting that with a nice clean interface would be wonderful.
