Theatre WMC plugin integration

Does the WMC Integration plugin in ET still work? I do have Emby Classic still installed, but just expected to see another entry point in the WMC menu to launch ET, but nothing appears, even after installing the plugin. Ideally, I'd like to be able to launch either from the WMC menu.

Does it work a different way? Do I have to uninstall Emby Classic for the plugin to work?

If you have a Harmony remote loaded with the Media Center SE profile you can launch programs from the taskbar by assigning Win-key + digit to a key on the remote.

e.g. If you put a shortcut to ET on the taskbar in the second position then the keystroke Win-2 will launch ET. You could assign Win-2 to a position on the Harmony's LCD and label it "Theatre".

No Harmony remote unfortunately, so can it still be done? Really surprised this hasn't been requested before. ET will need to fully integrate into WMC, initially at least to allow easy access to the program. Once people have got used to it, to the point they finally consider moving to it completely, then it can run standalone, but even then it will need to be able to be launched with the 'green button' exactly as WMC does, and respond to all RC6 and compatible remotes.

If you want something fully integrated with WMC then why not use EMC?

ET is being built as a replacement for WMC and EMC, and seeing as WMC has been abandoned by Microsoft, why would the Emby team bother attempting to integrate it with a dead technology?

That's exactly what I'm currently doing. I've been running EMC (and previously MB) since the very beginning. Like you say, we all know it's slowly going to be phased out, but I still use WMC for live TV at the moment - there isn't any viable replacement yet. ET is going to be the next big thing (if it lives up to expectations), so I'm going to be testing it extensively, but, being able to launch it from WMC will be an ideal entry point to using it. If, on a dedicated HTPC, I have to launch it manually from the desktop, it won't have that integrated feeling. Yes, if things go as we hope, and we all start using ET exclusively, then fine, but initially at least, it's going to take some time to get used to it, especially for live TV.

I'm afraid I'm not going to be able to devote any time to this as it would require writing an actual WMC plug-in to do it.  It wouldn't be a very complicated one but that's what would be needed.

Once the new Emby Theater is out and the path to run it is clear, someone who has some knowledge of writing WMC plug-ins could probably whip one up.  I know of one community member who would be capable of this but I won't call him out.  If he sees this, he'll know who he is :).

No WMC plugin needed.

When/if new ET is released, just create a new menu strip in WMC and create new launcher - takes less than 2 minutes.

I use MCE 7 Reset Tool box to create both new strip and launcher but there are other methods. (I start Plex in my case but it will work same with ET).

This way when you run ET/Plex from within WMC, WMC will pause playback, minimize and start the app. When you quit the app ( or it crashes ) WMC will be restored in full screen.

Yes, that's true, you could also use one of the WMC environment hacking tools.

Well that could be the answer then. As long as WMC minimizes when ET is launched, the resumes full screen when ET closes, that's all we need.
