I have Emby server installed on my win7 machine in the bedroom.  I use to be able to connect to it via my android app on my phone and watch shows and listen to music at work.  Now I cant connnet to it.  it says that connection failed and check server.

I've installed ET on my wifes laptop to hook up to the tv in the lounge room and i cant connect the lap top to it either it says the same thing.

server is running can watch everything on my machine in the room.

i connect via emby connect comes up to server choice which is only the one i click on that and thats when it fails

Are you sure Emby Server is running? Are you able to use the server web interface on your win7 machine in the bedroom? You can test this by opening your browser on the win7 machine in your bedroom and visiting

http://localhost:8096

Are you able to use the web interface from another device? It sounds like a firewall on the computer is blocking the traffic

Only Firewall I have is windows standard 1. Ill look in to that. I checked it yesterday and all looked right. I will double check tonight.

I have tried via laptop and cant access via web either.

So I opened windows firewall the app was in there. So i turned off windows firewall. Same result of connection failure.

I removed the exception then reinstated the exception freshly and same result.

Only way i can connect and use is by running ET EC and web client on the same computer the server is running on.

This has only happened in the last week that i know of. Would the re ent server update have caused this?

No, it wouldn't have, but you need to open windows firewall in order to allow the traffic through. Emby server will try to do this automatically but will not always be allowed to do so.

I have the server on my win7 Pro x64 networked machine, and can no longer access it from my win7 Pro x86 one. I can run Classic, but get a can't connect msg when trying to use Theater or access the server UI. (In Theater, it shows the server twice)

Haven't changed any settings and can access the UI from the host machine, just not from the other machine. Only changes have been windows updates, since I could last access the server through the network. (I've gone through the wiki) I can access shared folders between the two, just not the server.

so tonight I went through and opened port 8096, still no change constant connection failure

I uninstalled an reinstalled the server *which is now up to the newly released server*

It was running perfectly fine 3 odd weeks ago but just recently i havent been able to connect to the server with anything other than anything on the same computer the server is running on.

there's got to be something environmental going on that is blocking it. i would run a virus and malware scan and make sure your hosts file hasn't been tampered with as those are all things we've seen cause this in the past.

i took screen caps to show everything ive done and tried.

Well something is blocking that port.

Have you considered trying a different port?

Yeah ive done that.

The thing that is confusing it was all working 3 weeks ago

has your server's internal IP address changed? Do you have it set up in DHCP or does it have a static address or DHCP reservation? It needs to remain the same.

EDIT: I see that your local address the Emby server reports is the same as what your router screenshot shows. So I would make sure that you don't have some IP conflict on your network. Also make sure there is no other software installed that has some port blocking capability.

How about changing the IP that server is running on and redo the port forwarding and firewall configs and see if that has any effect.

try please from a Laptop or other PC (same Network) the follow link : http://192.168.1.3:8906  and see if it works.

If the awnser ist YES, Call ur ISP an ask if he use ALL-IP or somethink like ALL-IP.

i see to have fixed my issue by changing the port from 8096 to 9006.

i did try to change my servers internal ip to no effect.

i reverted back to its old ip and changed the servers port and i can now connect to it via my phone on the internal network but not external via mobile data.

EDIT

port forwarded to new port.  now everything works as it should

Thanks for all your help

Yeah, just FYI, I've been having the same issue for a few weeks now and pretty much gave up on ever remotely watching my media.  To be fair, I did do an upgrade to my cable modem/router and haven't gotten it working since.  I've gone through every setting in emby/router/firewall and can't seem to figure it out...it may be a simple setting I'm missing but to no avail up to this point. I've tried pretty much every step that has been suggested in this and other posts as well...

Sometimes, the ISP double NATs their modems/routers and you have to forward your ports through an additional gateway in order for the port forwarding to get through to your local network. If your router's default gateway on the WAN port is a class C address, that's a dead giveaway.

Hmmmm sounds like I may have to do more research, but I did manage to kind of get things working, but I may not be doing it right.  I started a new thread on it, can you check it out and tell me if I'm failing somehow?
